Title: Knock me over with a feather, Thanksgiving weekend camping
Post by: SheBantam on Oct 28, 2007, 06:56 AM
And it is Myrtle Beach...Raymond said yes to towing all the way down to MB for the week...we waited too long to get a time share...

We will have a beachy site at Apache Campgound at the north end of MB, but not quite North MB.  It has the fishing pier for Raymond, they take my Good Sam, at $25.00/night with water/electric/sewer AND Cable, that is a bargain (even without the discount).

Anyone else up to MB????

apachefamilycampground.com

We looked at this one a few years ago when we had a time share down the beach.  Sites are tight. But we plan on taking most meals out, so will pack light, that means the gravy boat etal stays in the Bantam, we are taking the CabinA so we can take the minivan. Corolla stays home this trip.

Actually weekend was the wrong word, it is week, Saturday to Saturday, but I understand Tracy, don't really expect anyone to drive that far.

Anaheim??? I do think so...you have to know my husband to understand the title.  he refuses to take the camper very far, he relents on Rallys, but if he comes, he drives his own car so he can leave when he feels like it...even 12 hours away, like to Cherokee NC. So for him to agree when I threw it up to him, and he gave me a dirty look, went to the internet, came back and told me to go ahead and book if I wanted to...that knocked me over with a feather.

Dee4j, I do have an extra camper, the Bantam, sleeps 7, if you want to fly out...You pay for the airline tickets and the gas for the F150 (personal use gas) and the camper is yours to use for Thanksgiving week... I do not REALLY expect you to bite...

hmmm..I wonder If your husband and mine are related    :J

Thanks for the offer that is sweet but I would have to buy at least 2 tickets..DD would KILL me if I went camping without her. DS is like his Dad only likes to go to hang out with his camping friend Zach.

maybe someday a "meet in the middle" will happen for all of PUT :p

We are back, Apache, the beach sites are not too small, but not like a SP. The natives, and there were a lot of seasonals on the beach sites, were friendly enough.  The fish WERE NOT biting.

Please tell me. I know cigarette prices are considerably lower down there, but do all Carolinians smoke??? We did find some non smoking resturaunts. But the resturaunt on the fishing pier was filled with smoke and the camppers all smoked outside. So me, with my multiple Chemical sensitivity had a hard time there.  The sites were close enough that the candles the neighbor were burning in their camper, came wafting into ours. The temps were great, to warm to keep the trailer closed up but too cool to run the AC without it icing up...

When we got there, it was too windy to put out the awning and it never got put out.

We did make the Carolina Stampede (Dolly Parton's place) and the show was great and it is totally nonsmoking and non-alcoholic...even Raymond liked it.

Staying in the Cabin A with Raymond was a trial. he is sloppy. There is no place to hide anything in there and he left things just laying around and got mad at my nagging...tearing down, as sick as I was, was made even harder by his constantly trying to help (like taking off the sewer line before I was done washing the bathroom. removing the trash before I was done wiping everything down, he even got on the ground, on his back to raise the stablizers, as many times as he has seen me do it, he did not realize they were the crank kind...). setting up, i gave him the bag with the water hose, told him he had to take the stopper out of the water intake, he could not figure out how to pull the plug out...

BUT he did get the check engine light to go off, the valve cover bolts were loose, he tightened them down, took off the battery cable and the light remains off 4 days later!!! SO he is good for something, and taking care of his sick wife, not expecting me to cook ANYTHING the whole time we were gone.

So Paula, are you saying you had a good time?  :)

If you consider a do-nutt'n vacation because you are too sick to do anything...and being in an 11' box with a tobacco chewing crotchetty old man fun, then yes I had a ball!!

Actually Becky, it was not too bad.  Apache is on the north End of MB, in the county. It is big, with a lot of seasonals, but it is not one of the mega campgrounds that are on the south end of the beach.

There is a Walmart Supercenter about a mile away, with a Steak and Shake, Bojangles and Golden Corral all almost brand new and an out let center in the same center and across the street. so every thing we needed was close by.  Even a mall about a mile and a half or so. But we did not even darken the parking lot.

I thought about Andy with the opening act to the Dixie Stampede. he as an man whose mother is Japanese and Chinese, his father is Spanish and Portugese. he said that made him italian...everybody laughed...
he was a jugler and did 8 rings at one point and another time he juggled 3 daggers.

It was the last few days that were bad, when all the smokers moved in.  I had no plans when I went there, so I was not disappointed, except with all the smokers towards the end of the week. Raymond claims he was bored. I bought a small 20" HD flat screen for this trip as it fits nicely in the trailer and got cable cord, running it through the storage area and into the cabin through the finger hole.  Sites were 30 amp, water, sewer and electric cable and ours had phone if we wanted to hookup, but with cell phones, that was a moote point.

Since I rarely hike, bike or anything when I am camping, then yes it was OK for me, but next time I want to take the big trailer if Raymond (or anyone) comes.

Paula sorry you didn't feel good on the trip and that I couldn't meet you for dinner yesterday.  We were gone most of the day and when we got back we had Thanksgiving dinner at the campground.  Today was home made turkey noodle soup (the campground's way of getting rid of the leftovers) for lunch.  It was very good and thick.:)

Apache had the covered dish, they provided the turkey on Tuesday, and that may be because there are so many good buffets in the area for Thanksgiving dinner. This campground and MB Travel Park are loacted right off of "Resturaunt Row".

We did not go to the covered dish. I was afraid of the smokers.  The bar/resturaunt in the campground's fishing pier did have Thanksgiving Dinner, but with a plain hamburger, no FFs, selling for $5.99, and the smoke in there was obscene when we got there on Saturday, we opted to get dressed up a little and cleaned up a lot (well Raymond had to shave) and go out.

What I would not have given for turkey soup yesterday and even today.
I am back to work.

I love having left over turkey.  But, we always go to my cousins for TG dinner.  So, I picked up a fresh turkey, 12 lbs, at Green Dragon on Friday when Sara and I went.  Cooked it yesterday after brining it for a day.  Will have turkey leftovers tonight, turkey pie tomorrow, and will make turkey soup on Thursday. Love turkey.

I love turkey too, but I hate a house full of people and no help. If I am invited to a gathering, I ask what I can bring, these characters bring their appetites and kids and Raymond volunteers "us", boils down to ME to watch the kids so the girls can go shopping, he goes to bed to nap and leaves me chasing kids, cooking and cleaning as I cook for 5 to 6 kids and 5 to 6 adults, when I need help everyone but the little ones under foot disappear...so I just do not love turkey enough to put up with the hassels.

This all started about 12 years ago or so when I had a misscarriage right before Christmas, I had to have emergency procedure 2 days before Christmas, and not only got no help, but the "family" over slept (can we say noon???) and not only did I not get any help, but they were 2 hours late, because JWs came over proselitizing and they just could not tell them they had to leave...there is a 4 letter word for these people, but I am too much of a lady...so not only were they 2 hours late with NO phone calls and would not answer their phone, but the dishes I asked them to bring, well, they just did not feel like doing it...again, a 4 letter word comes to mind...
Now they are upset because they are no longer invited over.  I told Donna when she was still married to ex #2, it was their turn next year, well she has been through jerk..I mean ex #3 and still no "Family" celebrations at her house.
The Christmas before she married ex #3, they needed a sitter for Sara.  Donna was too interested in going to ex#3's dads without Sara, that she did not give Sara a Christmas, and her ex#2 was not going to either to punish DOnna...so well I took the week off and when I realized that the parents had narry a gift for the 3/4 year old, I MADE jerk, I mean ex #2, Sara's father take her for a day while I went shopping for HIS daughter so she had as many gifts to open under the tree that year as Jeffrey...he got mad at me for making him take his day off and pretend to be a father to his child...

Then I have this wonderful friend that some of you have met, sweet sweet lady, but as with the camping trip she came with me on, on holidays, she calls to make sure we are going to be in town, then informs me she will be there for dinner...she tells me all she can have is a little bit, and 3 plates later complains I am too good of a cook...because everything tasted soooo good.  Some of you who camped with me when I am in the cooking mood, know I can cook.

Once upon a time I really really loved holidays??? anyone want a family of jerks, I can share????I'll even send some food to share, because they won't.

See why I like turkey, the bird and hate the hassels that go with the holidays???I would rather be camping, in a motel or just at home by myself.

back on track and off the soap box, I was camping next to a behmouth fivver that was sited permanently, my Cabin A was the same length as their slide out on the side of their trailer.  The lady was absolutely fasinated with the Cabin A and got the nickle...more like penny tour. She thought it was so cute.

You hade to alsmost be infront of my trailer to see that it was not part of their slide, as when I backed it in, I backed it right along side their slide, if I had moved up a few feet, it would have beeneasier to see from a distance that the Cabin A was a seperate trailer...

Oh I am wake and surfing because the doctor gave me prednisone today and informed me I has asthma, he called it intermittent asthma and said it probably only happens this bad when my body is run down...yep, the week before our vacation I worker 12 hour days on a special project, AND got a head cold, so yepper I was run down when I came in contact with the verry nice people in the campground who smoked and used highly scented candles (smelled like the powdered carpet freshners right after the stuff is dumped on the carpet) and perfumes...he said this steroid might interfere with my sleep and sure to his word, I slept about 4 hours and now...well am wired like I had a pot of coffee...

Paula, I hope you are feeling better.  That prednisone is some nasty stuff.  Check into the side effects carefully and don't take it for very long.

Hi Paula,
Your too funny. I hope you are feeling better by now. I'm glad you were able to get away for a couple of days and had some nice weather. Before you know it you be planning for the rally. We look forward to seeing you.
