Title: New Electrical Question
Post by: ron halverson on Oct 31, 2007, 08:15 PM
GOT ALL INTERIOR LIGHTS WORKING IN CAMPER.  THERE WAS SQARE SPACE NEXT TO FURNACE THAT I THOUGHT A 12 VOLT LIGHT WENT.  i INSTALLED A 12 VOLT LIGHT AND IT WORKED FINE.  THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE FURNACE FAN CAME ON.  THEN IF I WOULD TOUCH ANY METAL AROUND THE FURNACE, THE LIGHT WOULD GO ON AND OFF, LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THIS SPACE MAY HAVE BEEN FOR A THERMOSTAT.  I HAVE NEVER HAD A FURNACE BEFORE IN A POPUP.  CAN YOU TELL ME IF THIS CORRECT.  IT IS A 1995 COLEMAN UTAH.  ALSO, IF THIS IS CORRECT AND I NEED A THERMOSTAT, CAN I JUST BUY ONE FROM HOME DEPOT OR IF THIS SOMETHING I HAVE TO GET FROM A DEALER?  THX FOR ANY INFO.

Sounds like the ground wire (white) may be disconnected somewhere around that area.

Yes.......That is where the thermostat should go.

Do a "simple search" (upper right side of page) for "Digital Thermostat". Many people here have upgraded the crummy standard thermostat for an inexpensive digital that you can get at most home improvement stores. There is nothing special about it. :sombraro:

I'm just gessing but I bet a home furnace has a transformer that drops the voltage going to the t-stat to 12 volts.

Not all home thermostats are 12 volt, but there are a lot of them out there.:)
