Title: April 18 - 20 th. 2008 Tracy's Birthday Bash
Post by: tlhdoc on Nov 05, 2007, 06:49 PM
My Birthday trip will be at Hickory Run SP, in the Pocono Mt. of PA. If you are coming post your site number and I will add you to the list. There are electric and pet sites available. I recomend avoiding sites 194, 196 and 199. Hope to see you there.:D

If we go to Harmony Ridge, then I can get my NJ sticker.

Ricketts Glenn is too far for me for a weekend.
I LIKE Hickory Run.
Harmony Ridge may be on the upper end of a weekend trip, I will have to see.
With gas approaching $3.00/gallon and the instability in the Middle east, I may be camping VERY close to home in the near future. Economy starts tanking and I do not get pay raises...

Quote from: tlhdocIs anyone interested in camping for my birthday? If so where do you want to go. My choices are Hickory Run SP, PA http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/hickoryrun.aspx , Ricketts Glen SP, PA http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/rickettsglen.aspx , or Harmony Ridge Campground, Branchville, NJ. www.harmonyridge.com .[/b]

If you want to camp at one of these parks or somewhere else please post. I am open to going somewhere else.:)
I checked with the boss lady and she said we can come out to play that weekend.  Yippeeee.  You know it was hard to twist her arm.  LOL.

I won't vote on this one coz not sure we'll be around. That's our HS springbreak and we may be taking a family trip somewhere - since Kels finally won't be playing a sport. If we are around, I'll try to make it. All of these places are fine with me.

Beckie has the sticker.  It is a state sticker for which states she camped in.  It isn't a sticker that you get at a state forest.:)

A few of us got together for dinner last night (DiW and her DH, Andym86 and his DW, PoconoRose and her family, dee106 and tlhdoc) and discussed where to camp for this trip. The general consensus is somewhere with electricity. So this leaves Ricketts Glen out. Does anyone else have a preference??? If not I will post the location in the very near future.:D

well , if you do it at harmony ridge, I and poconorosie won't have to move , since we have seasonals here, and i can get the lodge or big tent for the pot luck!, they also have cabins to rent for those who don't want to tow. but I will go where ever the group wishes,

It is too early to commit.
I am still trying to get over the grueling drive to MB, with the minivan and the Cabin A...something was wrong somewhere and Raymond thinks it was the 65 to 70 MPH speeds as we got about 10 MPG. If gas is going to $4.00/gallon, I will be staying close to home.

OK Di.  You need to find your map and let me know what site to book.  The area that was under constriction last year has some nice sites.  I am planning on camping toward the end of that loop.  Another bonus is that we had cell phone signal  in that area, when we camped there last summer.:)
Title:
Post by: HersheyGirl on Dec 31, 2007, 04:00 PM
I am confused too....not unusal these days.  Just let me know the site numbers.  I was thinking that the upper sites were the ones that you guys were in when we first went there, and the lower ones were by the bath house.  Silly me.
Title:
Post by: SheBantam on Dec 31, 2007, 07:07 PM
BEcky, you may be thinking upper as Adam had the site on the hill. AND the pet sites have a tendency to flood, so yes, in some respects that is the lower section  :J
Title:
Post by: tlhdoc on Dec 31, 2007, 10:40 PM
I consider the upper sites the ones up hill from the bathroom.  The lower sites are on the level of the bathrooms.  Paula there are many pet sites now.  I think there is only one pet site that floods.:)

Another newbie here ... got room for 1 more (familiy)??   :W

We are are still working out the details, but hope to be booking site 247 this week for April 18-22.  Not quite in the same area, but DH says he wants a little more room as he's "still not totally comfortable backing up the TT."   Bless his heart, the man can put a huge school bus in a slot with 2" clearance on either side, but the TT is still giving him fits   LOL

Driving a straight truck vs a truck/trailer combo are very different.  It is very understandable the concern.  Just remember, he is only as good as his spotter.  I hope that you guys can camp with us.

Spotter??? Who needs a spotter???Only real wimps use spotters...usreal women just goet out and look around and then cross our fingers.  They only confuse me.  I have only backed into a tree a time or two...and that was in the dark with the TV after the trailer was parked.  (I cannot see to drive at night)

You fail to see the benefits I have found with having Nicole spot for me:
1) Not as likely to damage the trailer
2) If I did, she couldn't yell at me as much
3) I know I am not going to have it in the right place so I might as well have her tell me right from the start what she wants ( see, a husband can be trained )

Raymond does all these truck driver hand signals, I am dyslexic and if he points left, I go right because, especially if I am tired, that is what I see...so it is easier NOT to try to train him. Nicole got you young, he was almost 50 when I found him, so he was just to set in his ways to train...

Trying to back the TV to the trailer is also a solo act. If you want to help me, point directly above the hitch so I can center...ooops does not work since I cannot twist...so I just have to go back straight and judge the center by the amount of trailer showing on each side.

Orthopedic Surgeon says I am not going to get any better, so WC is going to quit paying for the chiro, as it will not help...gee whiz...that is what kept me going this long and able to at least do what I do.  I guess disability is next???

All camping right now is up in the air, really, with no chiro, cannot move, and lord knows, I move carefully enough as it is.  So I may have to cancel, all depends on how my back is doing.

Paula, maybe you want to trade in both of your campers and get one of those little camper vans (Class B I think) - nothing to hitch up. Only take about 1/5 of what you own. Keep it simple. Eat your meals out so no need to bring all that cooking gear, either. Less to pack. Less wear and tear on your back.

Di, that is what I do with the Cabin A,  Very little can go in as there is very little storage.  Hitching it is easy, especially to the truck.  Guaging side to side in the mirrors is easier with the larger Bantam, that can be "turtled", the ends not dropped. I need air or cooler weather to do that or the Cabin A.

On a side note, for those of you who have camped with me and Anna (cunningham falls), my friend from Baltimore, she is having brain surgury. the date is still up in the air. The tumor is benign, but giving her problems with balance and hearing.  She is really scared. For those of us who believe in prayer, can you keep her in your prayers? Thanks.

Looks like April is going to be a busy month for us. April 7-11 We will be iN the NC mountains, NOT camping gas is just too high to pull the camper that far.  We are going to visit my Aunt and Uncle in Franklin NC.
Last time I saw her was when we had the rally that the majority voted for the NC Mountains, and the minority did not....the minority that as a whole voted for a place closer to home, showed up, the majority...well they canceled or did not book.

Yesterday, I thought we were going to have to cancel. I realized that Kelsey's soccer schedule had games listed for both Sat afternoon and Sunday. But she just told me she has that Friday off from HS because they didn't use all their snow days. If true, I'm hoping to go to HR on Thursday night and then go off to soccer on Sat, returning to cg Saturday evening. I just checked her revised schedule and I don't see the Sunday game. I don't see it on the state cup website, either, so I'm hoping it got rescheduled. Things sure are looking better than they did yesterday. Hopefully Chris can take that Friday off.

Darn work, Tracy but I guess you have to go occasionally ;)  Kels invited a friend to come camping with us, so I guess it's officially a plan now. Chris is expecting to take off, but needs to speak with his boss this week. Next comes Kelsey trying to get out of the Sat game. Unfortunately, it's an away game and of course, it's the opposite direction. I think all the girls (different towns) are on spring break so I'm not sure how many will be around and Kelsey already told the coach she would play if needed. So now we wait to see if she's needed.

Hello Everyone,

We just got a letter today from Hickory Run. Telling us now are trailer won't fit on the site they said it would fit. We were on 199 now we are on #246...I am so sad we won't be by everyone now :( Tracy we won't be your neighbor anymore either.

Shelly,
I'm wondering if we will have a problem "fitting" also. When I went on to see if our site is available to come a day early, I saw it says that it fits a 15ft trailer (we have a 12' box but then there are those pesky king beds to consider). I don't recall seeing that size limitation when we reserved it. I wonder if they made site changes.
Diane

Post by: chip on Apr 01, 2008, 05:18 AM
We got the same letter.  Anybody have any insight on the sites?  We were on 206 and the letter says it may be too small for the trailer.  It was originally listed for a 30' trailer.  (Mine is 28+ open.)

Isn't this the new loop they were working on last year?  Guess they are fine tuning their "attributes."  We just may have to leave the Campin' Felines at home again.

What they told me is that they need to move things around due to Bear sightings. I don't know what this has to with the size of my trailer...go figure!! Well anyway...we moved....and I wasn't happy :(

Ok, we just got a letter yesterday.  I called just now and talked to shelly.  She said that they made some changes to the sites and basically they wanted everyone to be aware it may be a little different for getting into them then it was in the past.  She didn't think that I was going to have any problem with mine even though I told her it was 30'.  She also didn't say anything about bears but in all fairness, you have to assume that they could be there anyways.  I am going to stay put.
Title:
Post by: SheBantam on Apr 01, 2008, 10:34 AM
Here is what they wrote back in an e-mail.

Site 195 is a small site, but will accommodate your small trailer.  You won't be getting a letter cause the attributes for that site have not changed.  If campers know that their equipment can fit on that particular site, then they don't have to do anything.  The size of the sites have not changed, just the attributes for the sites.  We have not done any physical site changes.  We had many problems with campers not being able to get into their sites.  Trees across the street hinder the campers from backing into some sites.  That is why we changed some site sizes.
Title:
Post by: camperjohn on Apr 01, 2008, 03:09 PM
Well I guess the lady Connie I spoke to doesn't know what she is talking about. Well we have been moved. I guess we will have to stay put in our new site. I am so confused...Well anyway we will be there...

Di I received two letters today. One for your site and one for my site. I didn't call or email them, I plan on staying put. If you can't get into your site take mine if it is bigger. What a great time to notify us that they have changed things. What attributes have they changed that would reduce a 30 foot site into a 15 foot site?

I called the park today and told the lady I had a popup and her comment was "You'll be alright. That's a long site."  We're on 206.

I think there must be issues with longer TTs and HTT's and trying to get the angles right for backing up.

If I can't get it in, I'll just let Margie back it up. :)

See ya'll on the 19th.

We are staying a couple extra days and were wondering if y'all could recommend a good day trip in the area?  Hubby and I were wondering about the Crystal Caves?  Or Hawk Mountain Sanctuary?  Any and all suggestions are welcome

Cabellas in Hamburg PA or the outlets is about my limit on "attractions" in the area.

There is white water rafting at White Haven

I have been out of town for a few days.  I haven't been to either attraction, so I can't give you any recommendations.  Looking forward to seeing you soon.:)

Unfortunately we can't make this trip.  However, I can comment on Hawk Mountain.  We were hiking there two weeks ago and it was fantastic.  We joined the raptor conservancy and will be making many return trips.  If you like hiking and gorgeous views of the Kittatinny Ridge, you will have fun.  Some of the trails are challenging, some are easy.

We have not yet been to Crystal Cave, but I hear good things.  We did visit Lost River Cavern a couple of months ago.  It was very interesting, albeit a vairly small cave system.  Lots of history to it as well.  Lost River is probably a 45 minute ride from HRCG.

Getting excited now. Just got the popup out of the garage. Yuck, it's so dirty. Didn't realize it got put away like that. Can't remember. Maybe I wasn't there. But I'm not going to worry about it. Have to work tomorrow so won't be washing it. Hopefully Chris can dewinterize it tomorrow night. We're hoping to go Thursday night, but Kels has invited 2 friends. All 3 girls play sports (different ones) so it's difficult trying to juggle schedules. We may have to wait until Friday morning since one girl has a lax game after school Th and then a soccer game that evening. The other girl plays softball, not sure but I think she has a game Th also.I"m still waiting to hear when we can go. Trying to let them work it out. The girls can't miss HS team practices or games. Basically that's like quitting the team. Kels is missing her soccer stuff Th-Su, but she plays on a club team and has a bit more freedom. At first, Kels didn't want to miss but now she's as excited about this camping trip as I am so she's ok about missing. Chris is trying to brace himself for a gigglefest weekend.

Di tell Chris if it gets too bad in your camper we can trade places.  He can play video games with DS.:D

I am glad you are excited.  I know I am.  Can't wait to see my camping family this weekend.  I am also looking forward to having running water in the camper for the first time this year.:)

Di if my site is better for your camp, go ahead and take it.  Call if there is a problem with the sites.

Di I know about a dirty camper, we got the pressure washer out and the wheel was broke off...then I went to hook it up and the connection to where the pressure hose is was also broken...so I bought a new one, and cannot get the soap out...it says to fill the soap to the line on the container on the power washer, and NOT to turn on the water, the motor will not turn unless I turn on the water...seems the soap has to be laid on a dry surface and then washed off after a few minutes.  Raymond is going to play with it today, if he can not get the soap out, he is going to take it back. he has the reciept and the box.

They used to sell a pressure wand that also held soap and had not motor, may look for one of those...

Leaving now to pick up the girls. Chris left earlier with the camper. Never did get a hold of anyone at the cg. Called too many times to count. Hopefully it won't be a problem to arrive a day early. See you all tomorrow.

Well, we are home safe and sound.  Thanks to all for a very enjoyable weekend.  What a turnout.  2 weeks until the next one seems way far away.

We also made it home safe and sound.  I am not sorry I missed the hike, after I got home.  We unloaded quickly and just went into the house when the rain came down.  We had a heavy down pour/thunderstorm.  Sorry I didn't get to say good bye to everyone.  Thank you all for coming on the trip.  We will have to do it again sometime.:D

What a beautiful weekend! Perfect weather. Great company.

As usual, we didn't make it out of the cg until 3:30. Actually debated taking the girls to the waterfall but they were worn out (and slept most of the way home). Made it back without any trouble. Dropped the girls off around 5, arrived home to discover Chris already here. We unloaded the cars, then grilled some steaks (had to try to keep the weekend going). No rain here, Tracy. Just going to hang out tonight. Everyone seems tired...

Was nice seeing old faces. Been awhile. We missed you. Hershey gang, sorry you couldn't camp but I appreciate your visit. Steph, thanks for making the trip. Paula, glad to see you moving better. Raymond stayed all weekend AND made it to the potluck. We must be growing on him  :D . Also had the pleasure of meeting some new members. Always nice to see the circle growing. Learned some new things, like what Wendy's utensils are good for  ;)

Got to see quite a variety of campers this weekend. Never did get up to that teardrop but assume it's a bit like Paula's. Kelly's jealous, John. She said she doesn't even have a flat screen in her house. Seeing a 3rd wheel drive by, Mollie swore the LR was bigger than hers at home.

Looking forward to our next trip, whenever that will be.

We made it home, stopped at the dump station only to change drivers, I made Raymond drive...did not dump, so I will have to get a bucket and dump it in the toilet...

Raymond tried to make me back in the camper...after 3 tries, putting the camper very nicely diagonally across the drive and jack knifing a couple of times, Raymond hollered for our truck driver neighbor...I usually get it close first try, but yesterday I was running a fever...he got it in first try

Do not know if it is the group, the pine or the camp fires...but I get sick ALMOSt everytime I go camping...when I did not go to a campfire Easter Weekend, I did not get sick. But then I do not get sick at French Creek as it only has a few pines...so Hickory Run is now a No-Go Campground adding it to Killens Pond.

I am some better today, but have a bacterial infection upper and lower...again...Yesterday We got the clothes out of the camper, and the food, I had a hot bath, the neighbor came over, it rained, she went home and I went to bed, at 4:30, got up around 7 ate something, and went back to bed, sleeping all night.

Raymond slept better at the campground than he did at home.  He seemed to enjoy himself last weekend and wanted to know when the next outting was...July...Keen Lake...I have to call and see about the Pine...

It was a long but uneventful drive home.  It was very quiet last night when everyone left.  I spent Sunday evening with Chip, Margie and Susan trying to scare me to death looking for bears.  I had a great time, thanks to all who were there.  I counted 36 at the pot luck dinner.  Hope to see you all soon.

'Twas a great trip!  Outstanding meal, good conversation.  Thanks to all for sharing time, food and firewood.

Happy belated B'day to Tracy!

We made it home late last night, after a two hour layover at Cabela's (where I managed to not spend a dime) and a stop for dinner.

We should do that again sometime...

Hey Chip, are you feeling alright?  Did your wife get you sick?  If not, how did you get out of Cabela's without spending a dime?  I would like to learn how.:D

It was easy:  I didn't have any way to take home the kayak I was looking at.  At least that's what Margie said...

I am glad that everyone made it home safely.  Next year we will have to think about doing it again.  Chip did Margie take the cash and credit cards away from you?:D

Methinks it may be my trailer!!!  If you read about the FEMA trailers, most of my reactions are similar to theirs, and this trailer does set off the carbon monixide detector when NOTHing is on, in the summer...must be emmitting some sort of chemical.

I am inquiring with Aliner about opening bubble windows and yes, a week later, I am much much better.

Tracy I hope the Birthday was great!

And Aliner will not e-mail me back...so REALLY gets me wondering if it is the trailer and not my friends.
