Title: Leo Carrillo Rally -- August
Post by: wavery on Jan 01, 2008, 02:08 PM
We just got back from Leo Carrillo (Northern Malibu Beach). We had such a good time. The CG is beautiful and lots for the kids to do.

There is a huge inner area that could be an ideal rally for up to 17+ sites with a common inner area with the campsites surrounding the area in a big loop. We can't reserve any particular area or site but early arrivers could ask for a few sites each (we saw this being done) and they let me in at 10:AM, no questions asked.

It is an easy walk to the beach, through a tunnel under the highway. There is also a day use area that we can use that is about 1/4 mile (you can drive & park, if you'd like). This area has picnic tables and BBQs. Dogs are allowed on the beach in the "Day use area" (on a leash).

Leo Carrillo is dry camping. No hook-ups at all (I know that this will limit some of the wuss's :p ). There are water faucets stationed around the CG at regular intervals. There are clean hot showers ($.50 for about 5 minutes) and clean restrooms.

Booking can be done on-line at:
http://www.reserveamerica.com/camping/Leo_Carrillo_Sb/r/campsiteSearch.do?site=all&type=9&minimal=no&search=site&criteria=new&agency=CA&parkId=120047&search=site
Starting Friday, Feb 1st at 8:AM. The CG will be filled quickly as this is a very popular CG.

This is a non-site specific reservation campground. It may be difficult to keep everyone together.

Here is a list of the site #s in the loop
4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 105, 107, 109, 111, 113, 115, 117, 118, 120, (highlted sites are most desireble because they are slightly farther from the highway). I'll edit in a CG map and pictures later, if there is interest.

We have a month to settle on the dates if anyone else is interested.

Depending on the exact dates and not having talked to Brian yet, put us down as interested..

I'd be interested as long as it's fairly early in August.  We're now starting school before Labor Day (a week before).  Thanks for the info. on dogs on the beach, too.  Helps me with a decision.

If this works, maybe several of us could reserve more than 1 site, just so we get enough.  Just a thought ...

How was your weekend there?  Got home just before the rain!

We have camped there and Paul and I can vouch for the restrooms.  ;) :#   Sorry.  I couldn't resist.

It is a nice campground, but it is rustic (no rolling green hills that are tended to.)  We really liked it.  Call early, though.  It's hard to get into.

it will depend on the weekend.  it would have t be the last 2 weekends

We don't care about hook-up's (we aren't wusses), but Ashlee's b-day is the 11th so that date would be out for us.

How about Aug 16th?????

We can't go the last weekend because we're going to Bridgeport for Labor Day. We're supposed to go to Fallbrook on the 23rd.

We have to apply for a loan to pay for all the gas that we're gonna burn this summer. :yikes:

I know I said those dates would work, but ...

I'm going on an 8 day rafting trip down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon.  We get home on the 16th, & I have to pick Jed up from his breeder on the 17th.  Much as I'd like to go, I think the Colorado/Grand Canyon trumps this.  :D

I got 2 campsites for Aug 15 -leaving Aug 17.

If anyone is interested between now and then, one's available.......if not, I'll cancel one. All of the reservations for that day are gone.

I also booked a site at Pt Mugu (Thornhill Broome) for Labor Day weekend (Aug 29- Sept 1) while I was at it. If anyone would like to join us there.....grab a site quick. As of 8:30 there are 52 sites left. They'll probably be gone by the end of the day.

That's a GOOOOOD question.

If you guys would get busy and help us find a Trailmanor 2720, we will make it. If not........we may have to borrow a tent :tent: . The only tent that we have, we'd have to sleep standing up. :D

Looks like we will be going to Leo Carillo afterall.

Does anyone want to take a ride with me to Richland Washington to pick up a Trailmanor (sight unseen)...... :yikes:

Please tell me that I'm not crazy.... :eyecrazy:

We are heading out Friday after Carolyn gets off work and we have to be back by Sunday night. Doesn't leave a lot of time for camping... :p

We'll stop for potti breaks (maybe :p ) & gas. We're bringing all our food & drinks. Carolyn couldn't get Monday off  :%

Carolyn will be nick named, "Truck'n Momma" after this trip.

BTW...........it's all Dieter's fault. We were going to wait until this winter to buy..........That's OK though. Maybe a better one will come along this winter and we can sell this one. :sombraro:

The camper wasn't quite "as advertised" but we brought it home and we will deal with it.

As we were preparing it to tow off, the guy kept saying, "Oh ya, you gotta put a bungee cord....and a bungee cord there.....the one thing that he forgot to tell us to bungee cord was the steps.  They are in the road somewhere between Richland Washington and Bakersfield.

We should be there about the same time as you.

Recumbentman lives right around the corner from there. Hopefully, they will get there 1st and "Spread out" a little.

Brad, I'll send you my reservation, Maybe they will let you check in for us. They've done it before. It just depends on who's minding the gate. :sombraro:  Let Mary handle it.....she's a lot prettier than you... :p

3 family pot lucks can be great. We could all bring our own main dish and share side dishes.

We'll do our traditional DO veggies. They're always a hit... :sombraro:

I love it when we install new kitchen cabinets and granite counter tops. I go through the kitchen with a crow-bar and 3# hammer. That baby's toast in an hour. Great stress reliever. That darn cast iron/porcelain sink weighs about 100# though......That's how I strained my back.

ONE MORE WAKE-UP!!!!!

This will be our 1st "official" camp-out with our NTU Trailmanor. We can hardly wait. Even Dufus is ultra-annoying-exited   (what's new). The funny thing is....he really doesn't like this camper yet. He really misses the Coleman PU. He loved that camper. When he went in, there was no getting him out.

We are all packed & ready to go. It's really neat being able to pop it up inside the garage and leave it up over night. It's so easy to pop-up, I can just do it to get something out of the inside or put something in, then close it up. Kinda like putting something in the trunk of your car ~.

It really was a great, relaxing weekend. There was certainly no shortage of wine........Can hardly wait for Pt Mugu in a week & a half.

Hatlet....you guys have to come out of the woodwork more often. We really enjoyed your company.
