Hi all!
I thought I'd share our recent trip to Serrano Campground in Big Bear, CA.

For those who are looking for the quick and easy read: I give it 5 out of 5 bunkends!
Highly recommended. For those who'd like more detail, read on...
First of all, ANYONE who's looking to stay here should do so with reservations. This sign was up already upon our arrival on Friday:

We arrived to the campground in the middle of the afternoon on the 11th. On that weekend, Big Bear was experiencing unseasonably high temperatures, and it was in the low 60's when we set up. I had reserved a space in the "Snowberry Loop," space # 36. This portion of the campground has full hook-ups, which we took advantage of :)

The spaces were all clean, swept, and raked. The staff and hosts were VERY friendly and helpful. As we were there later than most of the weekenders, we saw that as soon as someone pulled out, shortly thereafter staff was there to sweep, rake, and clean the spots.
As busy as the campground was, I was pleased with the condition of the restrooms and showers. Even my germaphobic wife said she'd have been willing to have showered in the showers, instead of using our casette potty/shower in the camper!
The only negatives I could see:
- Some of the spots on the northern most tips of the loops are up against the highway and could be noisy if traffic is heavy.
- For those that are looking to boondock and get away from EVERYTHING, you would NOT want to camp here. It's only a short drive into town for shopping and restaurants.
---> a note: as this was the first time the wife and I had gotten away alone since our 2 year old was born, we took full advantage of being waited on and taken care of in the restaurants - I have recommendations for good mexican food, steaks, burgers, and salads if anyone's interested... :)
All in all, a VERY good trip. In fact it was so good we booked the campground for a weekend in May AND in June! Again, I highly recommend this campground to anyone who wants a getaway in the SoCal mountains.

A short walk to this location from the campground. Very pretty, but fishing here may not be such a good idea with all of the vegetation under the water....

Staying Toasty!!! Temps got down to the high 20's at night, and we slept with a regular sheet and comforter set!

I second that...it's beautiful up there :D
When we lived in Orange County this was one of the parks we had planned on going to . We even scouted out the "perfect" sites. This is also one of those SP that have some water and electric sites (if I recall). Alas, we got transferred before we could ever get to Serrano.

...until I saw you live at the foot of the Sierras and a short drive to the Tahoe Valley!!! ;)
I'd imagine your choices are vast and most likely nicer than those you had down here in OC.

Yes, we have all kinds of great places to camp up here but unfortunately, we have no time (I work full-0time in retail). Our other problem is we do not have a/c on the popup. It is bloody hot up here in the summer. Of course Tahoe is only 100 miles:rolleyes: if we want to brave the crowd and flee the heat. Our favorite area to go and camp is on the eastern side of the Sierra's (Bridgeport). We used to drive 450 miles (from So Cal) now it is only 180 miles. Almost do-able for a 4 day weekend.
