Title: Recommendation for Sites at KOA San DIego
Post by: dkutz on May 28, 2008, 10:28 PM
Wondering if anyone who has been to the San Diego KOA has any recommendatons for which sites are best for a PUP.  We have hookups but would like to be near bathroom, and possibly the playground.  And somewhere to clean dishes would be a bonus.

Don't know if it should be near the playground area or the other side near the circular bath, clean up area.  Don't need pull through, back in is fine.

KOA reservations are a bit annoying because you cannot reserve a specific site online, you never quite know where you are gonna end up.

Thanks!

I have heard good things about this CG, but I have not been to it, so I can't help you with site numbers. I had heard that this KOA was closing down, have you heard about this and know when it is going to happen ? Would like to stay there before they close it down.

found this on another site..  "they are now going to be open until Oct 2011. The current real estate market is the reason for the delay. This is great news for all who appreciate this KOA.

We have stayed at this KOA many times and really enjoy it.  It isn't in the best of areas but they have a security gate that the close at night to keep out the riff raff.  As far as sites go I can't remember any particular #'s but we did stay over by the tent sites the last time and they were close to the bath house, Kamper Kabins and a nice sandy play area.

There is also a Food $ less  not too far from the campground so you can get anything you may of forgot.

my concern would be, if they are for sure closing, has management been keeping up on things, like clean bathrooms, pool, playground...I mean there is no incentive to keep it nice...

We go there a couple times a year,  We normally stay next to the hill as you pull in the cg.  It's close to the pool and playground site numbers 3406 thru 3412 is what be been getting.  The only draw back is one time we had a caravan pull in of a group from canada with over 50 rigs, most of the time we are only there to sleep and rest from the zoo or sea world trips.  But this area seems to have a little more privacy I think.  It's normally pretty quite.

The owners are nice and keep up the grounds, I think they were buying another KOA seasonal camp gound and their current buyer for their sandiego metro cg was being bought by a developer and the escrow keeps getting bumped due to the current realestate problems.  This has been going on for a few years now.  Do not stay near the tent area or the cabin and group areas, they tend to get loud from time to time.  Another place to check out, we havent been is a beach front camp in cula vista, my wifes friends from work have great things to say about it.  FYI, if you get their late on friday, after 10 or so the gate is locked but they have an attendant their 24 hrs, you can call them from the front gate and they get you in pretty fast.  Hope this helps, happy camping.

Rob.

We stayed there with another family a few years ago, and really liked it. The sites we had, I believe, were 1908 and 1909. They were not pull through sites, and backed into a realy nice grass area, which made for a nice shaddy area to kick back in for the kids to play in. The grass is watered at night, and stayed nice and green. You can request a barbque grill, which they will deliver to you, no charge. They had stuff for kids, such as an ice cream social, and a movie night.

As mentioned it is not in a great area, but that was not a problem. The facility was kept immaculate. The only room for improvement, in my opinion, is that there were not enough rest rooms.

5 years ago when we rented a class C for vacation (our first experience with camping) we spent a night at this cg. Being my first experience in a cg I was very impressed with the "park like" setting especially for being near such a large city. I have been to a few other KOA's since then but that one was my favorite.
