Title: Geo Method for Black Water Holding Tanks
Post by: JAL&JKL on Jul 14, 2008, 04:09 PM
Anyone familiar with the "Geo Method" of keeping your Black Water Holding Tanks clean? Found the info on this method on the Popup/Hybrid Explorer website. It uses Calgon water softner, liquid detergent, (& some bleach occasionally). Makes sense to me & I would prefer to use it versus the Chemicals available to purchase (used them up to this point). Any other experiences or thoughts on the Geo Method?  Would certainly be interested in hearing from you !!!!!!!!

We use a modified GEO method on our black tank.  We buy large boxes of Cascade dishwashing powder with rinse agent at WalMart.  We find the Cascade is much more readily available than Calgon.  I put 2 cups of powder in our black tank and a couple gallons of water.  That's it.  Never had problems.  Our black tank is 38 gallons.  You might adjust the quantity to fit your situation.  For more info go to RV.net forum and do a Geo Method search.

We use it, but we still add some chemicals if I don't empty the black tanks. We get odor for some reason. Others use the Geo Method, and get no odors.

I can say that the sensors seem to work properly since we started using this method.

When we bought our camper the black water tank was stinking a great deal.  I poured 2 cups of dish washing compound and a couple of gals of water.  Impressive!  Really does a great job of keeping it clean and odor free.

Camped five days using "Geo" & without emptying black water tank. Did develop an odor issue; partially emptied tank & was OK. At the end of trip, used "Geo" again & added one packet of chemical (to control odor) because it will be stored until Fall.
