Title: Don't Do Business With This Company!
Post by: NiagraRising on Aug 26, 2008, 03:31 PM
Recently I was looking around for some bug spray that worked on yellow flies. It turned out that this "company" had what I was looking for. The name of the website is //www.bitesandstingsonline.com. To make a long story short I ordered a $9 bottle of bug spray and had to pay $11 for shipping. They immediately debited my account for the purchase. I recieved no further correspondence. I emailed the company and didnt recieve a response. I tried to call them but the phone # listed on the website was disconnected. I ended up reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. They are currently trying to get in touch with them and not having any luck. Thought you all should know. Hopefully everyone is getting out to their favorite spot this holiday weekend.

I'm guessing this was a credit card transaction.  If so, it's dead easy to simply call the credit card company and tell them you wish to dispute the charge.  That will immediately hold the charge at bay, they will send a letter to the company asking for the company's side of the story.  When the company doesn't respond in 30 days, the credit card officially closes the case, back charges the company, and you get your money back in the form of the credit being officially put back to the card.

Since the poster said they debited their account, it sounds like a debit card on a bank account.  That is one reason I prefer to use a credit card and not a debit card.:)

Me too.  Visa recently went to bat for me against a wrecking yard owner in PA, who sold me a car bumper that was very "not as described."  I'd offered the wecking yard owner a chance to make it right, he refused, so Visa took the money directly from him. :-()

Not necessarily, a debit is a type of transaction.  A company "debits" a credit card account also when charges are posted to it.  Many debit cards also offer the same protection as a credit card, depends on the bank.  My bank offers the same protection on their Visa debit cards that they do on their Visa credit cards.

Debit cards do not offer the same protection as credit cards.  Read here: http://www.pirg.org/consumer/banks/debit/debitcards1.htm

Banks may CLAIM to offer protections, which are voluntary, then not follow through.  Debit cards provide a direct route into your checking account.  Once the transaction occurs, the money is gone from your account.  Getting it back can be very difficult.

Bottom line, don't use your debit card for online transactions.

I have used it, disputed it, and got my money back from my bank with no hassles.  I said very plainly, SOME banks offer the same protection. YMMV.   If you have a bank that doesn't follow through on WRITTEN (if is verbal or only in advertising brochures, etc, you don't have a leg to stand on) policies regarding anything, then why use that bank?

To be safe, even with a credit card, use a reputable company when ordering.  You are more likely to get results.

As for the original post, there are products out there that should be avaiable to you locally for the purpose you need without having to resort to ordering online from a company that no one knows.
