Title: Halloween Candy Recall
Post by: jendak760 on Oct 28, 2008, 10:14 AM
If you have kids or grandkids that will be Trick or Treating, be aware!

Subject: Halloween candy recall
There is a new warning put out by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
Sherwood brand Pirate's Gold Milk Chocolate coins are being recalled
due to the fact that they contain Melamine, the ingredient in milk
product that has caused many infant deaths in China.

These candies are sold at Costco, as well as many bulk and dollar
stores. Please make sure to check your children's Halloween candy and
DO NOT LET THEM EAT THE PIRATE COINS (you know the ones wrapped in the
shiny gold foil) and please let other parents know about this!

Here's the link to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's recall notice: http://news.gc.ca/web/view/en/index.jsp?articleid=421359 (//%22http://news.gc.ca/web/view/en/index.jsp?articleid=421359%22)

I love how people will link to snopes without actually reading it..."Sherwood Brands says those of its chocolate coins that contain melamine were vended only in Canada, that none of those confections reached the U.S."

So post in a Canadian forum, not one aimed at So Cal.

The fact is, her post was deceptive and misleading.  There are many companies that make those coins, and there is 0% chance of someone in SoCal encountering the unsafe ones.

Think, then post.

Austin

NOISY MEMBER??  More like grumpy old man.  I have received the same warning in emails, and quite honestly I will pull any coins my sons get.  They get SOOO much candy, I will not take the risk.

AB stick to your own posts, leave us SoCals alone!!!

This is AB if he ever shows up to a So Cal rally...(http://i399.photobucket.com/albums/pp73/dee4j13/14_6_1.gif)

Uh, how about post in a Minnesota forum, not one aimed at a good natured camping club in a state far, far away from you live...if the shoe fits....

QuoteThink, then post.

I have a better one: be considerate when you post.

You're messing with the wrong group, AB. We are SCCampers, and we protect our own. You could have shared the same substantive content of your post in a far less aggressive and insulting way. Jen didn't do anything to deserve your vitriol. We actually appreciated her well-meaning post, and BTW, it was posted in our forum and was directed specifically at SCCampers, her camping club family, not the general or campfire forums, so I'm not really sure why you thought it was okay to come on in and lambaste her.

New SCCampers rule: Tap Tap no mean people. ;)

Actually you are correct, maybe we should read things BEFORE we post them. We should also read before we post rude comments on the board. I am quoting from the same Snopes link I posted in the original message...

"This product is sold nationally through Costco stores and may also have been sold in bulk packages or as individual pieces at various dollar and bulk storesacross Canda."

And although the distributor states that these particular products were distributed in Canada and not the US. Why take the chance and not inform people?

I love my camping family. :D

You know, in 4 1/2 years that I've been a member on these forums that was the first rude post I have ever seen.

and that's all she's gonna say about that...

Thank you Jennifer, my grandson lives in WA. which the candy could EASILY make it across the border....

I subscribe to //www.cpsc.gov and get e-amails for recalls on stuff I also have safety alerts from consumer reports. Kara had a set of the deadly aqua dots

OK.. I think all Jennifer was trying to do was to make anyone/everyone aware that there is a problem..that cant be denied..This forum is for anyone/everyone that is signed up to post in any thread he/she chooses, with any remark they want. We all hope that it isnt spite towards any other member, but sometimes it may sound that way.AB at times will type with no recourse but he means well and that in it self is what a forum is for. But I do agree......

DONT MESS WITH SCCAMPERS...

I am rather amazed by the truly extreme level of hypocrisy by some in this thread.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you are either blind or extremely stupid (or possibly both), and I don't care which.

I would rather be right than popular.  Good night.  Go make your noise.

hmmmm a very intellegent 8 yr old once wrote...
"Why live in fiction when reality is all around you... "

I guess living in a fantasy world allows one to deny what is really going on around them

apparently only AB can be rude and offensive. and when called out he name calls. He thrives on the attention thrown at him.. so this will be my last response. HE IS NOT WORTHY OF MY TIME AND ENERGY.

I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed man...

just ignore him, his posts are invisible,  eventually he will go away

I think you all are being way too hard on AB.  I find it to be a good thing that when these boards get a little stale because nobody is posting, AB swoops in and saves the day.  He manages to get the board "Jump Started" so to speak.  Ok, maybe he does push it a bit due to the fact that his fingers type way faster than his brain processes what he intends to say.  Maybe he does turn to name calling, much like the mind of a child, and maybe, he really doesn't understand that we DO know what he means, he just presents it to us in a really really stupid way that tends to offend more than get his point across.  Maybe,  in Minnesota he is some kind of Guru that everyone goes to for answers, and us SoCal people just don't understand because we have been in the sun too long and fallen of too many surfboards????

Thats all i have to say about that

Even though many of us have been members of thes boards for what my grandmother would call "donkey's years," it can be helpful to review a couple of the rules for posting on these boards:

Quote* It s OK to criticize a product, manufacturer, campground or Pop UP Times. Just be honest and fair to all parties involved, including your fellow board readers
For purposes of this thread, I would add to this rule that it's also okay to disagree or challenge what a fellow PUT member may say, but do so in a respectful and considerate way.

Quote* NO name-calling - like TROLL![
To this I would add "A-hole," "hypocrite," "blind" and "extremely stupid"

AB,

I go as far back on these boards as you do, and I have read and oftentimes enjoyed many of your posts. I haven't always agreed with them, and in some instances, I thought you were downright wrong. Nonetheless, my disagreement with your posts doesn't give me the right to respond in some derogatory or obnoxious manner, just like your disagreement with Jen's post didn't give you the right to flame her. I think that you are very intelligent and know a lot about a lot, and your posts are valuable to these boards. However, whether you are right or not w/respect to Jennifer's original post (and there I would disagree that we here in SoCal have a "0% chance of enountering the candy"--although it may not be a "probablity," there's always a "possiblity"), the bottom line is that the tone of your post was condescending, insulting, and certainly uncalled for given the spirit in which the original post was made.

If anyone wants to read all of the PUT Board's rules, you can find them here

OK.....AB you are right however does it get lonely being you??  I'm one that said we'd watch out for the candies...... I feel it's better to be safe with our grandkids and watch out for their safety.....Maybe they are only found to be tainted in Canada but how would I feel if one bag of candy found it's way to S.Cal and in the trick or treat bags of my grandkids....... maybe he said this could never happen but just think how I'd feel if it did get here and I said to myself AB said Jennifer was wrong and let my grandkids eat this said candy.......OMG
I have no hard feeling's about you....... I even think maybe you just wanted to be correct/funny or had to much time on your hands.......I do know this was posted to warn us right or wrong?  Isn't it better to be wrong then to have sick kids .....................I'd rather throw out all the Halloween candy then have one of our klds get sick or worse.......Thanks again for the information and keep up the good work ..........Happy Halloween and remember to look through the kid's bags for un-wrapped candy or anything else you think they shouldn't have......Keep them safe........

It's been a long time since i've posted, (no time to camp, no time to catch up with folks on this board).

I kind of like it when it get's a little confrontational.

This kind of reminds me of the scenario that occurs at work, when someone sends an email to a distribution list to hundreds of people, that doesn't apply to any of them. And then someone replys all to everyone to inform the sender to take them off their distribution list. Then many people start doing a 'reply all' to tell others not do do a 'reply all'. Eventually, the noise dies down.

I too find AB's posts as SOMETIMES informative, sometimes wrong, but often times condescending (sp). Kind of like an (old) dude yelling 'get off my lawn you darn kids.'

I do like the "Mess with the Whole Trailer Park"

The so cal folks don't take to 'stuff' from anyone!
