Title: 12 volt thermoelectric cooler
Post by: austinado16 on Dec 09, 2008, 05:48 PM
Wanted to post a review of those 12v "thermoelectric" coolers.  Probably not the cooler of choice for camping or "real cooler" use, but I'm finding they have a great niche in the car on road trips.

We've got a great swapmeet here, and that affords (pun intended) the opportunity to pick up and try out items like this, and do it on the cheap.

During ski season we like to leave at 4:30am, make a scrambled egg or omlet breakfast, put it in individual containers, and then have an "in flight" meal about 30min before we get to the mountain.  So I decided to grab a small thermoelectric cooler/warmer to keep the eggs/pancakes/sausage/whatever hot until we eat.

Once I saw how great these cooler/warmers work, I bought a 32qt version to use as a cooler on road trips.  For example, we travel during gymnastics meet season and are on the road for hours at a time.

The cooler (Igloo Kool Mate 32) has been a great little in car refrigerator, keeping everything from drinks to fruit cold, but not wet or sweaty like you get with ice or blue ice packs.   Koolatron and Coleman also have versions and with the 110v adapter you can precool (or preheat) them for a couple hours prior to use.

We have one too. We've had it for a couple years. We would take it as a supplement to our fridge with our Coleman PU. Our TrailManor has a larger fridge and we don't use it any more........any one wanta buy it??

We use it alot when we have hookups and really like it, Even used it once in the heat mode to keep about 25 baked potatoes warm....worked like a charm.
