Title: 2009 PopUpTimes Rally
Post by: Cheryl on Jan 07, 2009, 10:47 AM
I have spent the last few weeks researching several campgrounds. There were several areas of interest mentioned at the 2008 Rally which I've tried to address. The campgrounds I have researched so far are:

Yogi Bear Jellystone Park at Luray, Va. - lots of local interests to explore and the campground seems able to meet all the Rally criteria.

Yogi on the River at Natural Bridge, Va. - Just off the James River and loads of local interests and the campground seems able to meet all the Rally criteria.

Yogi at Shangri La campground, Pa. - North of Knoebel's Amusement Park and Shamokin Dam. Loads of local attractions and bordered by a small creek. Campground seems to meet all the Rally criteria.

What interests the probable Rally attendees the most? Which area should I pursue the most? Are there any other areas of interest?

Please respond with specifics so I can address this as soon as possible and we can get reserving sites before they are all gone.
Thank you,
Cheryl

Sorry Wolfpack, I should have included all pertinent information with the first entry.
The 2009 Rally is planned to take place July 11th through the 19th. Some will make the whole week, some will only attend part of the week, but all are welcome. We generally enjoy a Potluck supper one night with a Chinese/silent auction possible. There are other events planned during the week, that all who like may join. It is a casual laid back gathering of friends, new and old. We hope to see Dave and his wife, along with other of the PopUpTimes crew possibly.
If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to chime right in. We hope to have even more attendees than last year.
Cheryl

I am more interested in Natural Bridge or the PA campround, but since I have just started a new job, I am not real sure that I will be able to get off during that time, so don't listen to me.  :D

Thanks Tracy for the Birthday wishes for Bob (CAPEd CODger). We spent an exciting day moving our son into college apartment life. What a way to spend a birthday. We are now "Empty Nester's" (except for school breaks)!!!!
Come on camping season!

If anyone has any in put for the rally (if you posted in a different thread post again here) please type NOW!  If you don't say anything Cheryl doesn't know what the group wants.  If you are not planning on attending the rally please don't say where you want to camp.

For the first time since Little River, TN, I will not be able to make it.

My son is getting married the weekend before and since my mother refuses to fly, I may have to go get her in Indiana and take her back after the wedding.

They were going to do a cruise wedding, but too many of her out of town family had to cancel due to silly things like kids still in school and prom weekend...So they moved it to July 4th weekend here in Delaware.

I also get to do the rehearsal dinner which is another reason I will not be able to come...$$$  I might be able to make a day on the way back from taking my mother home, but it would have to be in a tent or cabin.

I would be able to come to both of these.

But,  I have camped at both and the The kids and I enjoyed Yogi Bear Jellystone in Luray more then the one in Natural Bridge.  My vote would be Luray but, once again I would only be able to attend if it was at one of these two sites..

Natural Bridge area sounds good to me. My family is from the area. I had a relative that played at Natural Bridge when he was a child. Yes this was before it became a tourist area. Early 1800's.

At this moment the following expressions of interest are as follows:
One for either Luray, Va. or Natural Bridge.
One for Natural Bridge.
Six for Shangri-La in Pa.
tlhdoc for Shangri-La in Pa.
Hargus for Shangri-La in Pa.
I am hopeful that we will get more input but time is running out. I would like to make group reservations the first week of February to try to keep us all in the same area. Please help me out.
Thanks,
Cheryl

We're planning our 3 week trip to Yellowstone for late June to about mid-July.  If we actually do it, we'd miss the rally.  If we don't go to Yellowstone, we'll try to catch up to you all where ever you might be.  We've never been to Shangri-La or Natural Bridge.  Luray is nice, love Shenandoah NP, but that's the area where I drove our 28' TT down a one lane fire road for about 3 miles wondering if I would ever find a place to turn around or if I would have to back it out 3 or more miles.  At midnight.  Oh, the low gas warning light came on about 2 miles into it also and we get about 9 mpg towing.  I'm typing this at home, so it must have worked itself out.  Whew.

No input from me and not endorsing any location, as I may not be able to make it.  I'll go with majority on this one.

Cheryl I am willing to go to any of the campgrounds.  It would be nice for me to be close to home since I am planning on going to Maine this summer and that is going to be a lot of gas.  So my vote is for Shangri-La on the Creek.

In Williamsport they have a paddle boat that has dinner cruises.  "The Fence Drive In" restaurant is close to the campground and has drive in service in your car, at picnic tables, or inside.  You can also boat/jet ski to the restaurant.  In the town of Northumberland they have a nice restaurant called "Front Street Station" where you can dine in train cars.  There are 2 drive in movie theaters in the area.  Kneobels Grove Amusement Park is a great amusement park.  Food is reasonably priced or you can bring your own, no admission, free parking, free entertainment, pets on leashes are welcome, most of the park is shaded, benches to sit on all over, world class roller coasters, a ton of kiddy rides that are like the big people rides, etc.  The original Woolrich outlet store is about 40 miles away.  There is more that I could post, but I will wait until the campground is decided.:)

I don't think we'll be able to make this one so I'm not voting. All the areas seem inviting in one way or another.

We would rather consider Shangri-La on the Creek in Milton, Pa for the distance to travel. All sound inviting though.

Okay Everyone,
The plans are made and sites are being held at Shangri-La on the Creek in Milton, Pa. I have 6 full hook up sites reserved for my group up on Boo Boo Court and there are 6 water and electric sites being held right in front of the big Rec Pavilion on Ranger Drive very close to the pool. The sites will only be held for the week so you MUST reserve as soon as possible. When you call, make sure you identify yourself as part of the PopUpTimes Rally. We will have use of the big pavilion for our Potluck dinner on Monday or Tuesday. We will receive a 10% discount if we have more than 10 campers in our group (I already have 6 reserved). There are a lot of on-site activities and there are boat ramps just outside the campground entrance. The Susquehanna river is only about 15 minutes from the campground. Knobels Amusement Park is about 25 minutes from the campground. Please book your site as soon as possible and post your site number here.
Thanks,
Cheryl

Cheryl the West branch of the Susquehanna River is only abut 5 minutes away from the campground, if that.  The 2 branches of the river come together in Sunbury that is about 15 minutes away.  On Wednesdays Lewisburg has a farmers market.  I will be making my reservation!

Cheryl I called and they are closed for the day.  I left a message for them to call me back and that I am with the PUT group.  I also told them that I would like a site along the creek and not over by the pool.  Did they say if there are any sites along the creek?:)

Post by: tlhdoc on Feb 03, 2009, 06:05 PM
The campground called me back and I am on site 45 (on the creek).  I asked them to move 3 of the sites that are being held over to the creek.    Cheryl I hope that is OK.  44 and 46 are the other sites on the creek that are available.:)

That sounds great to me. Where ever everyone is happy is all good!
If there were full hookup sites over there, I would be there! But, I'm too spoiled to "rough it" anymore.

I was planning to come for 2-3 days and checked into the cabins but it just wasn't worth the cost so we're going to do like last year. Chris and Kels will come and go as they need to for work/sports (I think they will go home M, back to cg on Th). I get to stay and play. At least, that's the plan...

We'll be on site 44 from Sat July 11 through Sun July 19

Btw, Donna told me other sites, including 47, are available along the creek if anyone else is interested in that area
