Title: San Mateo CG 9/17-9/20, 2009
Post by: griffsmom on Mar 01, 2009, 10:25 AM
While still reveling in the joy and frenzy of getting a site for Labor Day, we booked another site at San Mateo for the weekend of 9/17 (Thurs) through 9/20 (Sun).

There were lots of sites open for that weekend, if anyone would like to join us. We are in site 58.

Welcome to this rally!!! If you want to get a Dutch Oven may I suggest a Lodge Dutch Oven - 12" deep or regular. You can get this dutch oven at most Wal Marts. If you work in Orange, the Army Navy Store on Glassell just south of the circle is a great place with a lot of dutch ovens from Lodge.

You should get it. I have a Maca dutch oven and it's 15" wide, 7 1/2' inches deep - 18 quart, and weighs 46 lbs. I'm going to cook a turkey in it.

I guess we will need to practice all summer to come up with something good to compete against you seasoned DO users! The food was so good last time at NB. I can't believe we never saw them before. :-)

It's really not a competition.......you can't hardy do anything wrong is those things. Everyone just enjoys trying what others prepare....no matter what it is....

It's kinda like using the crock-pot at home. Everything just seems to come out perfect and when it doesn't, no one knows except the chef.

Wayne is right about the dutch oven cooking. Throw anything in just like a slow cooker and as long as your dutch oven is seasoned properly; you can buy the dutch oven already seasoned; everything will be delicious.

OK,
I feel that twist on my arm, coming from my belly.
Somebody had better eat all that good DO cookin' !
I'm there in #55 Friday-Sunday. (At least I made a reservation- I have no idea what I'll be doing  that far into the future. I'm trying to sort out what's on the agenda for tomorrow)

I figured out what I do for therapy when overworked, I show up on these boards and I make a reservation. Works wonders.

I'm not going to be able to make this one.   PM me if you want my spot.
I'd never dreamed I'd be going on a business trip instead of camping.

I'll be thinking about all that DO cooking I'm going to miss while sitting in lines at the airport...

Lori,
I'll be in Madrid Spain. It may not be as thrilling a location as the space station, but the tapas, beer, and wine are good.  The last time I went, everyone I worked with was older and nearing retirement. Now, I think everyone is younger than me.  Yikes!
(Am I gray and bald yet, can I have a midlife crisis now?)

I'll be sending my cousin and my niece to San Mateo for a day trip. My niece is 8, and has some camping stuff (erect tent, cook something)  to do for scouts. I'm pretty sure they should be entertaining to watch, but help them too, OK?
Hope to catch a camping trip with everyone soon. I'm sure my replacement  will keep things lively- right Wayne?
Carl

Will your cousin and niece be there the same weekend? If so, send 'em on over and we'll be sure to show them the ropes of camping--SCCampers' style! :D

Spain is not so shabby!  Tapas, wine, a little siesta, and then wake up and do it all again sounds like fun! Drunk dial us if you want and we'll be sure to raise a glass in your (absent) honor!  Here's to seeing and camping with you and the boys soon!  :!

It was good seeing everyone again. It's been too long.....How come Wynn just keeps getting younger and I just keep getting older......Can't wait for the "Trick-or-Treat" rally.

Thanks for the compliment on the truck Dave. I'm a little happier with it now. I took on 27Gal of gas on the way home and got 17.7MPG. That's actually better than my best (towing) mileage on the S10 (16.7). The trip up the coast to Carmel will be the real test. I haven't pulled any real hills with it yet. I'm a little leery of the 3.23 rear-end in this thing but if it keeps giving me this kind of mileage without too much grief on the hills, I may just leave it alone.

Wayne,
Eyes on the road, not on the scanner OK?
I got a scangauge II and it's truly depressing to see the single digit MPGs as you get on the freeway. I did improve my leadfoot habits ~2MPG both when towing and just on the road in general.
The half a gallon an hour for sitting at the stop light is an eye opener too.
(That's a nickel a minute at $3 a gal. Just don't tell the guy honking behind me while I'm staring at my gauge and figuring it out)

Congrats on the new wheels.
Carl
