Alright we are on a roll. We are going to head to Collins Lake the weekend of Sept 25-27. This campout is going to be a little different. Miss Kathy and I talked about trying out the "first come" lakeside sites. We have never done this before but thought it would be neat to try. Check out the cg map on //www.collinslake.com They have improved their website and the map shows pictures of every site.
Cost is $28 a night but it is dry camping. So bring your generators. Hopefully, it won't be too hot. They have water so just fill up before you setup and a dump station to get rid of what you collected.
Don't forget all that yummy ice cream too.
Hope everyone can make it.
Jacqui
P.S Sorry Glen, Penninsula CG was a great idea but they close Sept 20th
Great idea,
Only I am already going camping that weekend.
We have done lakeside camping at Lake San Antonio, and we loved it, so was looking forward to trying it at Collins lake.
Biggest problem is securing the lakeside real estate.
Someone needs to be there early friday, and try and take up as much space as possible.
Randy and I will most likely be off on Friday so we could head up early and secure spots and then one of us can go home and pick up the kids from school.
Jacqui
I looked at the map, where is the dry camp area, I was unable to find it.
Bonnie
Here are the co-ordinates of the beachfront camping area
39ø 19'35.5"N, 121ø 19'03.89"W
It is at the south end of the lake, near the dam.
Looking at it on Google maps or Google earth, it is west of the dam, you can see the beach area, with trailers and RV's parked at the water's edge
On the "camp map" on their website it says "open area". There are 2 or 3 different sections. We won't know which one till we get there.
Jacqui
Got it Thanks.
I will send pictures to you via yahoo.
I would sure like to join you, but we probably won't have the truck's transmission fixed by then. Maybe we can drive up for the Saturday Pot-Luck? What do you think of that? That way it won't be too taxing on Sal. I'll ask him. We may just have to wait and see how he is feeling then.
Joan
You are welcome to join us for dinner on Saturday night
Miss Kathy:-()
I am going to leave early on Friday, morning - should be there by 10:00 a.m.

Are Glen & Kelli going to be able to make it to Collins Lake? Kathy have you talked with Barry & Susan?
Looks like a very nice place to go. Puting it on our list of places to go.
Bonnie,
Yes, Glen & Kelly are coming to Collins Lake- Not sure about Susan & Barry- Susan & Barry told me that they will be at the Oct camp out at 49rv
miss Kathy:-()
I posted this over on Popup Explorer to see if we can get a few more people to join us.

Thx. My feeling is the more the merrier. We need some more victims to show up.:):p
Jacqui
Jacqui, I'm not sure if I'm going to make it after all. Sal is back in the hospital. I had to take him in Sunday with sever stomach pains. It seems to be blockage in his bowel. They think it my be conectedto his hernia. The sugeon doesn't want to operate because of the extra fluid in him right now and all his other problems. They have a tube down his nose and have him doped up because he became combative. They think he may not be getting all the Lactulose needed to keep him from getting upset due to the rise in his ammonia levels. The doctor wants me to change his directive to "do not resuscitate" because he may not get better. I'm trying to contact his kids to help with the decision, but it doesn't look good. I may be using the money to fix the transmission on the truck for a cremation. Sad, but true since I don't have another job yet and the money is just not there. He has been saying for the past couple of weeks that he just wanted to die, so he may get his wish. This is all I can say for now as I'm pretty upset.
Joan
Joan, please don't lose hope. He is a tough ole guy. If you need anything please let me know. I pm'd you with my phone numbers.
You and Sal are in our prayers.
Jacqui
THANKS Jacqui, I'm on my way to the hospital now. They called me and have moved him to ICU, apparently he has had a stroke. I don't know anything else right now, just checking messages since I'll be gone most of the day.
EVERYONE, please have Sal in your prayers.
THANKS
Joan
Be strong Joan. Call me if you need anything.
Jacqui
Be strong
miss kathy
THANKS all, it's late (9:30pm) and I'm just back from the hospital. See the update under the thread about Sal.
Joan
Is this a show up and see if they have room event, or one where we need to call ahead? We're still on the fence, but if I can get the kids to find friends who want to go, I may be able to convince the fam to hit this trip.
I hope that you can make it- some of us wil be going up on Thursday night- to get spots- so if you deciede to come-
send me an email on
cmkathyjasso@yahoo.com -
That way we can block off space.

This cg accepts reservations but Miss Kathy and I decided to live dangerously and go for the "first come first served" area down by the lake. So if you think you are going to make it shoot us an e-mail so we can rope off enough area. If it is a spur of the moment decision come on down anyway. This area is HUGE and I am sure there will be something near by. This area is not marked off like a regular campground. You just squat and camp.
Jacqui
We are only a week away from the campout. What are the food plans. Kathy did you say you were thinking of going out on Thursday? Randy and I might bring the trailer out Friday morning and then one of us go get the kids from school. How many people are planning on coming?
Jacqui
Since Kathy must be out camping, I am going to beat her to the punch. Randy and I are going to provide tacos for everyone on Friday night. Everyone seemed to enjoy them at Smithwoods and they are easy camp food. Would anyone be interested in bringing a side dish to share? Maybe rice or beans or fruit?
Jacqui
i was camping- just got back- still working on getting a different trailer- I will make the rice & beans- do we want to all just bring meat for Saturday night and share and make a big salad-
Did you hear that it might be over 100 degrees? do we might want to do hook ups or maybe go to Lawsons Landing? Glen is going to call everyone tomorrow and let everyone deciede- maybe we do hook ups - i don't really care where we go.
kathy:book:
I spent some time this evening looking over the maps and satellite images. The "open camping" area at Collins Lake is... well, completely out in the open. No shade.
Weather report for this next week is 97-103 for Collins. Sure, I could run my AC with my generator - but at $1/hr and being cramped in the camper. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if they have any electric (and water, not necessarily sewer) open. It is only $5/night more if they have 'lectric.
However, it will still be hot and there is only so much ice cream you can eat to cool down...
Would people be interested in doing Lawson's Landing (Dillon Beach, near Bodega Bay)? See this link:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=38.241337,-122.967592&num=1&t=h&sll=35.966868,-100.97168&sspn=4.561248,43.983728&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=38.241264,-122.967546&spn=0.014072,0.01663&z=16
The rate is $26/night for a car/camper. The camping is a huge open field, periodic water spots, and first come, first served -- but I'd plan on going out Wed or Thurs AM and "staking out" an area. They don't take reservations this late, and often fill up by early Friday - but I should be able to go Friday morning and book & pay the entrance for others who want to come -- I'll verify that when I call tomorrow.
Who would be interested in doing Lawson's Landing this weekend instead? The weather will be sunny (or some days part cloud) and 71-73 degrees.
http://www.lawsonslanding.com/
We have no problem upgrading to sites with electric and water but camping in 100 heat is not fun. How far is Lawson's landing? We wouldn't be able to leave till after 4pm on Friday if we went there. I also have to work at 1pm on Sunday.
Jacqui
You can easily find out exactly how far it is by clicking my maps.google.com link above, click on "cliff st" on left and say "get directions". It shows 130 miles from Rocklin.
For Bonnie, it would actually be a few miles shorter (144 vs 149 to Collins) as it routes her over 580 over the San Rafael bridge to 101.
I just talked to Lawson's Landing, and they said they expect plenty of availability this weekend, so having a group there wouldn't be any issue. I'd still want to go out a couple days early - but Kelly might stay back and bring the kids Friday so she doesn't have to take Shelby out of school.
However... for Bonnie, she'd have to run through the Bay Area on a Friday night (ugh!) and for OCCampers, they'd have a haul from Rocklin (though against most traffic) but have to get back 1pm Sunday.
**********
So, after talking to Kathy, and Collins... and checking weather again, it looks like Fri-Sun will only be a high of 90 degrees. It is Wed/Thur that is 100.
Collins has 28 non-lakefront"water & electric" only sites available. These are $33/night vs $28 in the open-area... and for an extra $5/night, I'd say it is worth it. Many sites are shaded.
I've plotted the sites, in red, on the map below. If you go to the Collins Lake website's map, you can click on each site for a picture.
Last year, Kathy was in 53 (available - sunny, but big), OC in 56 and we were in 56A. I remember looking at the sites just past us, and thought they'd be nice -- and those are the ones available. My preference would be 49, 51, 48 & 50 (in purple below) - all right next to 53.
Thoughts?
After talking to Randy about Lawson's Landing. The place looks super but I think a little too far for this weekend. Especially since I have to get back for work.
Do you think it will be too hot this weekend? I don't want to wimp out but if all we do is hang out in the a/c camper maybe we should postpone it till another weekend when it is cooler. If everyone is fine with the warm weather at Collins we will go but if you guys want to reschedule that is ok too.
Jacqui
Either place is fine with us.. Yes, 90-100 is hot, but my thought is wear a bathing suit most of the weekend and dip in the lake to stay wet and cooler.
Logan's lake is 5 miles shorter, hardly worth mentioning....lol, but Friday night bay area traffic....well, one never knows........ more than likely way longer than 10-15 minutes.
On the beachfront or a w/e site....I'm game for either one... hopefully, we can all be together. Can we have one person register all of the sites and we can pay you this weekend or do we need to reserve ourselves?
i have already made my reservations-I am coming up on Thursday night and I have already made my reservations.
So no backing out= we will stay in our bathing suit all week-end-
It will be fun- so lots of ice & ice cream will be the plan
Hey guys remember I dont' have any air conditioner in my trailer- and I will be fine.
see you guys on Friday-
Only 3 more wake ups for me:-()
Kathy booked 48, we booked 50 (we're also arriving Thursday). OC Campers are supposed to book 51 - I left them a message... that site allows a tent in case their eldest attends (or other kids are banished to a tent). 49 is right next to it, and "waiting" for Boncrab.
Next closest is 53, but full sun. Otherwise 45 (afternoon shade), and 42 (morning & afternoon shade).

do you want to do the taco's on Saturday night- does it not take you about 2- 3 hours to get to Collins Lake- eating at 7 may be too late for the kids and this adult-
I thought that you were leaving early on Friday??
kathy
We got dinner plans Saturday and the "Big Game" for my oldest son this weekend. We're gonna have to catch the next one of these. We'll sure miss not camping this weekend. . . .

No, Collins is an easy 1 hour drive for us. Saturday would work for tacos.
We may be able to get there early in the day. Chris is going to stay home because he has a soccer game that he can't miss on Saturday. We will probably take Matt out of school early and head out.
Jacqui
Bonnie- Jacqui booked 49 since 49 & 51 are both "motorhome" slips (I had misunderstood that meant they were pull-through!)
If you book 51, since you're in a popup, all we have to do is flip it around so your door is facing the direction as if you'd pulled in like a motorhome. Since we'll all be there before you, there'll be lots to help.
Taco's Friday night are good- I will make the rice & beans for dinner
kathy
I will bring sausage & a bag of potatoes for breakfast-
:-()so we need bacon & eggs
We can make pizza for lunch on Saturday, i have the dough and the sauce, do you guys mind bringing the cheese & pepperoni?
kathy

Kelly's mac and cheese is the best. Hint Hint Hint.
I think I will bring teriyaki chicken and some kind of side dish.
Jacqui
Stop!!!! You all are making us hungry down here. Boy, we sure wish we could come. Hope you all have a great campout.
Rich
Thanks Rich. Wish you could join us.
Jacqui
wished that you guys could come- :-() Can't wait to see you guys in December
miss kathy
Hey,
Sorry all, I have been working at work and then taking work home and working at home these days. On the tail end of a long project. any free time is doing NOTHIN' and maybe eating...LOL....
I have not even thought about what to eat. If it's Ok, we will bring whatever meat we like and a dish to share. If I get it together tomorrow I'll try to post something but I think this trip might all be last minute. Just hollered at Rick to see if he could wash the trailer and take off the tire covers, etc.
Once setup, this is a much needed get away weekend. I don't think I'll be doing much more than making sure Bryan doesn't drown in the lake....LOL.....
Will call first thing in the morning to see if I can get site 51.
Anything you bring will be fine- just show and relax
kathy
One more wake up
We will bring:
Thursday dinner: Steak, pasta, and veggies
Friday breakfast: pancakes
Friday dinner: mexican caesar salad
Saturday breakfast: bacon
Saturday lunch: pizza toppings
Saturday dinner: mac and cheese, veggies
Sunday breakfast: monkey bread
Sound good? We won't go hungry!
YUM, all sounds good, wish I could join you all. With all that has been going on, I need the break. Good news though is that I have received a nice benificiary check from my Dad's life insurance so I'll have just enough money to get the truck transmission fixed. Hope to make the arrangements in the next few days. I hope to be able to come to the 49er rally!!!
YAHOO!!:-():#
Joan
Was fun... but hot as...
I'm sorry, but lakeside campgrounds in late September in NorCal are not supposed to be 100. That's just cruel.
Hopefully, 49er (in 3 weeks) will be pleasant and we can forgo the air conditioner!
I agree it was WAY too hot. But had a good time. Made it home, took a shower and headed off to work. Randy has to fly to Phoenix tomorrow too.
Such is our life:eyecrazy:
Jacqui
ok, you guys whine a little too much- Me with no air conditioner only a fan
It was fun- got home yesterday in 3 1/2 hours - unloaded the truck & trailer.
Picked up Barry & Susan and went and got my trailer- Boy what a fun ride home. Barry kept saying put your foot on the gas- it was - (not enough)
Made it home safe and I backed it up into the driveway - first try and took a very deep breath- Getting new tires on Wednesday- don't want to trust the ones on there right now.
See everyone in 3 weeks
Miss Kathy
2001 Wander Thor lite:-()- new too me
All right Kathy!!! You go girl!!! See you in a few weeks
