Title: April Camp-out Ideas
Post by: wavery on Sep 23, 2009, 03:14 PM
Does anyone have any ideas for an April Camp-out???

It may have to be a private CG....ReserveAmerica is a mess. I checked the few available CGs for March reservations and there are just a few spotty sites available in any of the CGs. Certainly not suitable for a rally.

I thought that a private CG might be more suitable......any ideas????

I know about that camp-out. I was thinking of later in April. :D

Here are some other ideas.

1] I would like to go back to Joshua tree.
2] We have not been to Lake Casitas in a long time.
3] One time we had a rally at the KOA in Banning and everyone enjoyed that place. More of a private type CG then your normal KOA.

I liked Black rock the kids really loved the big rocks to climb on but we went the end of April then and that's a little late in the year due to snakes being out....Just ask Lori......Heeheeee
We would love a April campout we can never make the Easter rally so plan it and we'll be there.....

added note we really liked the Banning KOA nice pool and the CG was very nice for a KOA like Brad said......

Hey Everyone
Although we're not official, paying members of the group, if you're considering a private CG, might I suggest Pinezanita? You can check out their website at www.pinezanita.com (//%22http://www.pinezanita.com%22) DW and I have been camping there for several years (it's our personal favorite). It's only 4 miles to Julian, if apple pie and curio shopping is something you like to do. There's lot's of other things to do in the area, as well.

Nice looking campground, but what do you do after 11pm if we can not have a fire :(
sccampers always have a fire late into the night ;)

We have camped at Pinezanita several times. The owners are super nice. We like it there.

:eyecrazy: Well, let's see. Not paying members cuz I'm soooo confused as to whether there really are dues or not (as I've read many of the dues referenced in what I thought was 'jest', but didn't really know for sure).

:D I've wanted to join up with y'all, at one of the rallys (never done that before), but the timing just didn't work out, plus the distance, for us, was a bit prohibitive, at the time. But .... I'm waiting to see a rally planned a little closer to home for us, then we'll join in.

Also, the issue with the campfire curfew is dictated by the fire marshall.  Pinezanita was able to allow campfires when no other campgrounds in the area allowed them.  The owners (Stanley's) have a very good working relationship with the fire district and have special provision attached to their fire permit.

Dues are normally paid in the form of participation in campfire activities........oh ya........then there is the small matter of singing the SCCAMPERS theme song during the 1st potluck dinner.......we'll fill you in on that more at your 1st camp-out.............. :p

If you take anything else that I say seriously....you'll have to sing the song twice.......while standing on your head.......drinking a "Blue-bomber"..............:p

I think that its this groups way of TRYING to be funny.  Not exactly my brand of humor... but then again I'm not a member of AARP either. :p

ANYWAY..... to be exact there are NO dues... this is just a casual group of peeps who live in Southern California and like to plan camp outs/ rallys together rather then camping alone.  So if you decide to join one of the rallys they arrange you would just pay whatever fee is associated with your camping spot. Sometimes they book an extra spot to have group campfire and potluck and everyone splits the cost for that spot.  Again its not an official group... theres no application, no treasurer and no dues............ just group of peeps who seem to enjoy camping with each other ;)  Hope that honest info helps :)

OK everybody. I got straightened out on the dues issue, so I'm not confused anymore. :p With that being said, would somebody, please!!! send me the music for the SCCAMPERS song? I need time to rehearse it!!! :eyecrazy:

Seriously, though. I did know the song deal was a hoax. ;)

I'm just waiting for a group outing that's close enough to me that I don't have to spend half a day driving to get there for a weekend campout. I need more time than that to unwind. Although, a Blue Bomber, or 2, might just do the trick.

Thanks, everybody for setting me straight.

There is no "real deal" behind my comments. I wasn't criticising you or accusing you of any of those things. I was simply teasing you b/c in the year you've been here, you seem to have a habit that whenever a new rally is posted, you express huge excitement in wanting to go, ask a bunch of questions about it, and then either sign up and end up cancelling or say you can't go after all. I'm not a meanspirited person, and I thought that since you had basically called us unfunny and old, you could take a little rabble rousing back. I'm sorry to have misjudged you. I meant no offense and I promise I'll be more careful how I respond to your posts in the future.

Memory serves me that the last snide comment like this alluded that I post to much for not being a member that long (though that was not from you Lori)...... so of course after that I backed off and have honestly tried to be careful what questions I ask and the frequency of them.  With that being said, you can't possibly think your friends here in this group would read what you just wrote to me and think that was being very welcoming, do you?  I mean I know you are a moderator and co-founder of this group but honestly where does it say you have to limit your questions and excitement about a rally?  I ask again, have I not allowed enough time when I have had to pull out of a rally so there was enough time for another person to take our spot?  Please point to when I have done so and I will apologize to the entire group.

Truth be told, I have a young family, my youngest is only 2 1/2.  I have a tight budget.  I want to camp more then DH does.  I get excited about wanting to camp and yes it doesn't always pan out for us.  I've been very careful as to not mislead or should I say TRIED to be careful and rather just ask questions to make sure it fits us before we commit.  If we have to cancel I give proper advance notice, people are never waiting around for me to make my decision.  I'm sorry you take offense to my adding in humerus remarks with the rest of the group.... its clear we don't exactly "fit" in here and I am sorry you feel so strongly that you have to roast me like this in front of everyone.

Again, the meaning of my post apparently wasn't clear.

To reiterate, I wasn' criticizing you for your excitement about posted rallies. I actually find it very refreshing. I thought I had also made it clear that I wasn't accusing you of pulling out of rallies and not giving enough lead time so that someone could take your place. You have never done that and I never said that you did. I understand and empathize with the scheduling and financial difficulties that come with raising a family. You don't need to apologize to the group for anything.

I didn't take offense to your joke; I tried to joke back instead and apparently my comments were misconstrued. I didn't say or imply that you don't "fit in" here, nor have I roasted you in front of everyone. I tried to offer the olive branch on my previous post (#53) so that you and I could get past what I still see as nothing more than an innocent misunderstanding.

If you're still unhappy with me or this post, please feel free to PM me so that that we can at least elimnate the public aspect of whatever this disagreement may be.

Edited to add: If you're satisfied with this explanation, let's just call it a day, let it all go, and go back to camping and having fun with one another. :)

Look... my joke was in general... it didn't point out any one person or situation.... I was helping a newbie to understand the joke about the "dues" since it was obvious they had some confusion about it and were trying to figure this all out.  I knew when they asked it was just going to make the rest of the group joke about it even more so I in turn, since I am still relatively new to the group decided that with the joking going on I should help them better understand this groups brand of humor about it.... of which I'm sure they have ran for the hills at this point :o  (hahahahaha)

Your joke Lori was pointed directly at me and pointed out something you saw in me that obviously irritated you enough to say it or tease me about it.  Thats all I'm sayin and I'm sorry I lashed back so quickly about it.......it just struck me as having a very personal overtone.

Anyway as far as I'm concerned I'm sorry this got away from topic....... back to the matter at hand....... where is this April camp out taking place?  Can you have tents?  How about the pet policy?  Whats the weather going to be like?    How about a pool, WI-FI, rec-room or playground?  Are there showers?  Are they paid showers or free showers?  How about the toilets... do they have enough to accommodate this group?

:sombraro:  Happy Sunday!

Hey everybody
If I'm the 'newbee' you're refering to, don't worry. I haven't run for the tall timber - yet. Gracy and Wavery, thanks for getting me straight on the 'dues' issue. Recumbentman, thanks for giving me a heads-up about the 3 upcoming outings that are scheduled fairly close to me. I've checked our calendar, and unfortunately, we won't be able to make any of those events due to prior committments - and that's the only reason. But, I'm still lurking around here just about everyday looking for an opportunity to join in on one of the outings.

I just thought I'd let y'all know that.  :W

I really wasn't thinking of a camp-out.....I just thought I'd try to whip up some action around here......it's been kinda dead lately....:sombraro:

We are actually kinda stuck until they open up the reservation system again on ReserveAmerica. I did get my bolt-cutters sharpened though.....;)

WHAT :eyecrazy: READ BELOW

Quote from: wavery;210600Does anyone have any ideas for an April Camp-out???

It may have to be a private CG....ReserveAmerica is a mess. I checked the few available CGs for March reservations and there are just a few spotty sites available in any of the CGs. Certainly not suitable for a rally.

I thought that a private CG might be more suitable......any ideas????

Now we have to wait for ReserveAmerica to get back and running

All I can say is

OK....OK :book::book:

The reason that I started this thread was because we were told that most of our favorite SP CGs were going to be closed. HOWEVER.........I made a call to "Arnie" and he agreed not to close them afterall.....:p (ya right)

I did, however, make a call to ReserveAmerica and I was informed that all of the CGs will be available for reservations on Oct 1, @ 8:AM. We will be able to make April reservations at that time..........

NOW!!!!!!! that we have that (rather dubious) information......where do we want to go?.....We're up for Doheny but I must tell you that the beach-front sites are now $60 per night (dry camping).

Any other suggestions??????

I think that during the mild temperature months like April. We should head inland and save the coast CG's for the hotter summer months :D
Hey I have an idea ;) how about we try someplace NEW "what a thought". How about some of the CG's in the bishop area. or that Pinezanita down San Diego way or surprise us :o maybe even Banning that would be fun :)
just my 2cents worth

Wayne
this is your call, so stop teasing us and pick a place :-()

You know how much we love Pt Mugu and if it was just ussins, I would say we should do it. However, our experience has been that it can be quite windy there in April and not a pleasant place for most PUs. Hard-side trailers do fine but 60MPH wind at 2:AM can be a bit distracting to ones sleep in a canvas side PU....:yikes:.....trust me.....we know....on more than one occasion in April.

BANNING??????

I called Pinezanita.....sounds intersting......$27 a night with W/E (no sewer) if we get 10+ reservations. Looks like a nice place. Can be cold in April so I would suggest the W/E of April 25/25.    However, weather could be an issue.............any takers???

Wayne camp INLAND!!???  Bite your tongue!

Pinezanita was our first trip in a PUP and we got snowed on and I got Chicken Pox.  Other then that its a great place.  Lots of full timers, and the sites are gravel.  Still a nice place.  Be sure to check their quiet time rules, seems it was an issue last time I brought the place up.

We really like William Heise, also in the Julian area.  Beautiful CG.
