Fernwood Campground in Big Sur is a GREAT campground, we stayed here last summer on our way back from Santa Cruz. Sites are water and Elec only, No sewer. Our site was right across from the trash cans and next to the driveway, site #9 I believe, it was not the best but didn't matter, we spent most of our time by the river. Try to get one of the riverside spots.
The Kids played in the river the entire time we were there. There is a "lazy River" so you can sit in an innertube and float down the river, the kids loved it. Also near by is Pfeiffer state beach. BEAUTIFUL beach. Unfortunately very foggy and cold when we went, but still a very pretty beach.
There are not a lot of places to eat in the area, so be sure to plan your meals accordingly.
One other word of warning, if you have a BIG trailer or a fifth wheel, there is a sharp u-turn at the bottom of the access road, its a very tight squeeze, but do able if you are patient.
Highly recommend! I hope so since we just booked it again for this summer!!

This looks like a very beautiful and rustic campground. We will add this to our must do outings. Unfortunately we cannot go in August when you are going. Thanks for the heads-up on this campground.
We can't go this time either for the prob same reason that Recumbant can't go.
School gets in the way.
You will enjoy the site you have Dieter, just be mindful of the skunks. We had a couple of 'em come come through when we stayed there in that site.
we wanted to go earlier but the site we wanted was booked. OH well next year!!!
Do you know what the window for reserves are?
Maybe we can plan an earlier time next year.

No idea but we can look into it.
Hey,
I was wondering if you were allowed to take your dogs at the Fernwood Campground? Some of the campgrounds closer to the coast don't allow dogs.
Thanks,
Janice

Thanks... now I just have to figure out where this is! haha
