Title: Are Batteries Required?
Post by: fivegonefishing on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
This sounds like a real goofy question but the owners manual states the trailer comes with a battery box...do we really need a battery?  Is it like the pop up, if you want lights when there is no source then the battery will do it or does the battery run other features?

fivegonefishingEmergency brakes, if electrical would require batteries I guess ?

Advise - From Birol - Grain of Salt : They go hand in hand :)

Well, if your new baby doesn t have hydraulic brakes, I guess it would require a battery for emergency electrical brakes.

When you aren t hooked up to shore power, where would the power come from? Unless you re going to run a generator 24/7 it s got to come from a battery. Even the biggest class A s got a battery bank.

fivegonefishingthe battery also runs the pumps, so if you use the water or toliet while on the road you need the battery to beable to flush, get water, and it keeps the clock, and radio memory. the smoke and gas detector, i think the auto pilots too.

 fivegonefishingHi everybody[:D],

We had them add a box to the A-frame for a Group 27 battery.  They screwed it to the frame.

We need the battery while towing to power the emergency brakes.  We rent where we store our Kiwi.  I always go to the trailer the night before a trip to hook up the battery, level the trailer and start to pre-chill the fridge.  The fridge requires a battery to run the controls for gas mode operation.

If the power were to go out in the campground (as it has on several occassions), the battery can run everything on our trailer except the A/C.  We run our fridge in the " Auto"  mode, so if the power goes out in the campground while we are gone, the fridge switches to the " Gas Mode"  automatically.

Yes, I would recommend having a battery on your trailer.  At least a Group 27 - 12 volt Deep Cycle RV/Marine battery...also called a " Deep Cycle Trolling Battery" , as opposed to a " Marine Starting Battery" .
