I have been using a flats cap for several years to protect my face and neck from the sun.  They usually cost between $15 - $20 depending on manufacturer.  The are three characteristics that distiguish a flats cap from other caps:

 1) It has a longer bill.
 2) The is a fabric flap on the back to shad your neck (yoou can flip it up if you want).
 3) There is a cord with a clip on the back.  You attach the clip to your shirt.  The longer bill tends to catch more wind so your hat may go overboard if its not clipped to your shirt.

Every summer, several people will walk up to me either ask to buy my flats cap off my head or ask where I got it.  If you want a visual go to Cabelas.

RamblingWreckMy DS wears one with the UV protection fabric.  I bought it at OneStepAhead.com for ~$13:  http://www.onestepahead.com/jump.jsp?lGen=crossSell&itemID=713&itemType=PRODUCT&iProductID=713&wSubCat=139

They also have the non-UV fabric flap hat in colorful prints on sale for $1.95:
