The last time we had a bad storm back in 99 we bought a Generator by Coleman. Not that we had much of a choice but it was a Coleman. Because it was in the upper price range I believe that is why it was the only one on the floor. Well, it is worth every penny we paid for it. This pass storm took us down for three days and it worked 24 hours a day. Nice piece of equipment. Good fuel rate, like 5 gals for 12-14 hours. Let it run all the time. The only thing was it had to have the oil changed every 25 hours because it did not have a filter. Even that was not much of a problem and it took about 20 mins.

Forgot to say that it is just nice to take along on a camping trip.

whitestar505After Isabel we have been looking at them.  I expect we have not seen the end of the power problem, either from natural or man made destruction.[:o]  I have been looking at the Honda and Yamaha models.  They seem to have 11 hour fuel capacity and an automatic shutoff if the oil goes down.  Hate to spend the money, but hate to be caught without pwer and water again![:@]

whitestar505A Yahama EF2800i will be our generator purchase. Quiet (60-67db), low in weight (64#) and it runs 7.7 hours at 2800 watts or 12.9 hours at 1400 watts. Puts the Hondas to shame as you can load it up with fuel and sleep all night without having to stop and refill it every 3-4 hours. It also comes with a spark arrestor approved for state and national park use. I started to buy a Coleman Powermate but they were too noisy for use in the state parks where we camp.

whitestar505If it was for home use I wouldn t even consider a Honda or Yamaha for the $ per KWH. For camping and trying to be quiet I would consider both of those manufacturers.

 jstaddwtrjstaddwtr,

Have to use it one time you have recovered your cost of the generator.

whitestar505Great point whitestar505 about recovering the cost.

We will look around and save our pennies....for another purchase!

Being a total novice about this, chasd60 thanks for your comments.   Our primary purpose is to use it at home.  At the same time it is nice to have the portability.

Thanks for including the links.  Decisions, Decisions[: (]
