 what is a shepherds crook?

On the Coleman PUs there is a pole that goes from the ceiling to the bed bow (the pole at the end of the bunkend that forms the shape of the bunk end) and holds the bed bow in place keeping the tenting tight over the bunk end.  The pole looks like a shepherds crook and is often called that.

whitestar505it s interesting to hear everybody rave about them...

I take some plug-in fans and some plug-in lamps that sit on a wooden tray by my head because the bunk-End ones seemed awfully small and how on earth do they give enough light for reading (my head - and therefore my eyes! - are at the end of the mattress) when they re waaaaay up there hanging from the shepherd s crook?

and if you start dozing you have to get up on hands and knees (short arms!) to turn the light off???

 Please enlighten [;)] me.

The light is bright enough to read by.  Some people think that they are too bright.

I just sit up and it is an easy reach to turn off the light.  You can locate the light anywhere along the shepherds crook, so that it is close by.  I don t have to get on my hands and knees

 whitestar505Sandy,

Have you tried one of the Itty Bitty book lights to read by?  I love them because they put the light right where you want it (on the page) and when you re ready to go to sleep it is right there to turn off.  Runs on batteries too for when you dry camp.  I use one at home to read after DH has gone to sleep and keep one in the camper too.

whitestar505tracy must have long arms...coupled with a long torso [;)]

i m 5  0"  and just for the heck of it I ll see what my " reach"  is next time I m lying on the bunk

since i sleep alone most of the time (and have reached the age when that is just fine[8D]) I use my electric plug-in bedside lamps but I do have some itty bitty lights.
