In the Chicago area the Extreme coolers are being priced very agressively.  We bought the 58 quart model.  I had a 54 quart conventional Coleman cooler, same environment, in and out about the same number of times.  Loaded them Friday morning with cold food and beverages.  I didn t add ice to either cooler all weekend.  On Monday morning the old cooler was about 15% ice 85% water.  The Extreme cooler had some water in the bottom, if you dug down through the ice to find it.

The present $10-15 price difference will get paid for in fewer ice runs during weekend camping in less than one season.

The only negative is they don t come with a tray, and the old Coleman and Igloo trays don t quite fit.  But, I can live with setting them on top of the ice.

Two thumbs up from the Campaholics.

Campaholics[font=" comic sans ms" ]We got the 36 quart model for Christmas and used it the first time last weekend.

Two thumbs up from us, too!  We loaded it with ice and frozen meats on Thursday afternoon....last thing in way up on top was a dozen eggs.  Opened the cooler Saturday morning to get the eggs out and every last one of them was FROZEN!  Had to thaw them out to make the french toast.  Came home Tuesday and there was still ice in the cooler.  Very impressive.  Got the same one you have and getting about the same results with the above also being true (I wonder why that is?).   Very pleased with this product.

CampaholicsWe have the big model Xtreme and think it s great.  Ice seems to last forever and the inside cleans up nicely.  I wish it had a flat top rather than the molded in cupholders which only collect dirt for us.  It would also give you a bit more interior room.  Other than that no complaints after having it for more than a year.

CampaholicsWE have the big one also, love that it keeps everything frozen for those long trips.

Campaholicsi have the smaller one and i love it....ice stayed the whole trip...now i can load it up the night before instead fo the morning of and not worry about it...that alone made it all worth while!!!!

Campaholicsboy I must be doing something wrong. I bought the Coleman Extreme after reading the reccomendations from the previous forum. I have been disappointed in its performance thus far. The ice melts too quickly, but if I use more ice I have no room for the items I need to keep chilled. any suggestions from users? Could I have a defective one? I haven t seen any cracks or imperfections . What s up?

Christy, I have seen Coleman coolers that had the same grey/white color scheme as the Extreme coolers, but they were not Extreme coolers. The Extreme has an blue oval badge embedded in the front side saying " X-treme" , and the top is thick enough to have four decent cupholders molded into it. The Extreme has a sidewall thickness up to 2-1/2"  in some places, while a standard Coleman cooler is about 1-1/8"  all the way across the cooler. These grey/white regular coolers do not proudly say EXTREME on them, nor boldly claim on the paper lable to " keep ice five days" . What s worse, the stores selling them do not make a point of telling you they are not Extreme coolers (after all, why should they? You might walk out the door without purchasing their cooler [:o] ), so it s easy to think you are buying something you are not.[:@]

Is it possible you bought a regular cooler by mistake? Believe me (and everyone else on the forum), those Extreme coolers work great.

CampaholicsTo have the ice work longer fill the cooler with cold food or drinks.  If you put warm food or drinks in you will melt the ice fast.  We use an Extreme or our drink cooler.  If we have to add warm drinks to it, the ice doesn t last as long.  Drain the melted water and try and keep the cooler in the shade.

CampaholicsOn our first stop on our last vacation, we stayed at a campsite across from Long Beach, Louisiana.  The Budweiser cooler that my husband was given at work was stolen during the night (had a few non-alcoholic drinks and my daughter s refrigerated medicine in it [:@]) so we replaced it with an Extreme.  For some reason the Igloo that we ve always thought so highly of didn t seem to perform any better than any other cooler on this trip, but the Extreme did great.
I also noticed someone in Wally World in Florida carrying a Rubbermaid brand cooler that had a sticker saying it would " keep ice for five days" .
Might explain why the Extreme is down to $20.  Love competition!  [;)]

CampaholicsIts funny there seems to be an " extreme "  difference in how people see this cooler. I must admit I am one that is not impressed in the least. I have been camping for 20 years and was looking forward to a cooler that could keep ice for longer than half a day and admit to paying a fortune for it early on. I am so disappointed in its performance! I have done all the recommendations people here and everywhere have suggested and have never had ice last more than and even IF a full day, in fact my husband andf i even got in a fight about it because he insisted it would never happen and I because of the testimonies here I  insisted it would. Sadly it never has,it never has even come close,  I am not sure if there are a batch of bad ones out there, or if it is luck of the drawl or what but all in all i have been so disappointed in this cooler.  BOurs works great.Frozen items still had ice crystals in them after two days of 85-90 degree temperatures on our last trip.We believe that this was a very noticable improvement in performance compared to that of our other coolers.

CampaholicsOur has worked great for two long weekend trips.  The frozen food was still quite frozen when we unpacked four days later(although it was rainy the whloe time[:(]).
I agree with Trlrboy about the cup holders .

 CampaholicsAll,

Wal-Mart had them (36 qt)[:o] here for $15 over the weekend. I paided 42$ last year and had to order them from Coleman.[:(]

CampaholicsI also sing the praises of Coleman Extreme coolers.  We go for 4-5 days in 90 degrees and still have ice when we come home.  we re not even careful about placing it in sun or shade.  If your Coleman Extreme doesn t do this, it must be defective.  Take it back and try another one.
