Well I finally ordered one of the Fox Hill Camping Ovens. It cost a few bucks, but what a great product. I purchased the double oven. It is sturdy, lightweight, and very well constructed. I made dinner in it last night (beef stew with biscuits) at home on our gas stove and it came out beautifully. It heated up quickly over a low to medium flame, the temperature gauge was accurate, and it was easy to use without burning the food. Wish I had gotten one years ago. We usually have sausage gravy and biscuits for breakfast once during every camping trip, and I used to make the biscuits at home ahead of time and then split them and heat them up in a toaster - what a pain. We don't always have electricity when we camp, so I couldn't depend on the toaster either. I do all of our cooking outside when we camp, and this will be so much nicer. The only thing it didn't have that I wanted was a case to protect it while traveling, so I made one from black quilted fabric, seam binding, and Velcro, and it came out great. So now I can't wait to go camping and bake stuff (if only I had the same enthusiasm about domestic duties at home! )

I was wondering if anyone has purchased the coleman camp oven and what the difference is between the fox Hill oven?  The coleman camp oven is 1/2 the price of Hill fox oven

Fox Hill double oven  $65.00
colemans doube oven $28.00

I have the Coleman and have for about 5 years...It is "ok"...but doesn't sound like it's nearly as accurate or cooks as well as the Fox Hill.  Iv'e done biscuits, muffins, brownies...Even with attempting to lower the heat and go for longer cooking, covering it with foil so the heat stays in better..it still has a tendancy to either get the outside of the food too done before the middle is ready, or dries the food out too much.  I am really considering the Fox Hill oven!  I use my Coleman oven on my Green Coleman Camping stove..

I too would like to hear some opinions from folks who have used both...

Wow, is the baking rack attached to the lid, and you just put your stuff in there and then lower it into the box?  That looks a lot easier than putting food in my coleman oven.  With the coleman you get it around the temp you want, and you have to turn that knob and open the door and slide your stuff in.  Course, I tend to peak at what I am cooking as I go along, is that very hard with the fox hill?  We need a new solution for baking, I long since retired the coleman, too much work wrapping it in foil, and then having to constantly adjust the flame for heat regulation, and man did it use up some propane to bake biscuits.  We have a toaster oven, that half the time I think pulls too much electricity and won't work, I haven't used it in a year probably.  I need to dig it out and bring it in the house and see if it works in there, or if it really is just defective.  If it is, I think a Fox Hill might be on my Christmas list...

We just got back from a 5-day camping trip and I used my new oven at least once every day. I love it. It is pricey, but from what I have heard about the Coleman oven, I think it is a much better design. The temperature gauge is accurate, and for the most part it cooks very evenly. The only problem I have had with it so far was due to my sloping outdoor stove, not to the oven design - when I made brownies this weekend, the batter slid more to one end because my stove does not hang level on the outside bracket, and one end of the pan cooked faster. I'll try to see if DH can fix the slope. Other than  that, it did great. I made blueberry spoonbread on Thursday, and it disappeared shortly after I took it out of the oven (my family and friends camping with us inhaled it); one of those Homestyle Bakes dinners - beef stew with biscuits - my kids and I ate it all with no leftovers; Bisquick biscuits to go with sausage gravy (our favorite camping breakfast) - they were perfect; and baked potatoes in foil - much quicker and easier than the campfire. I didn't bother pre-heating it, and unless it is very windy, it cooks in about the same amount of time as my oven at home. You can easily see how the food is doing just by lifting the lid and raising the rack to take a peek. The pans that come with it are also of very good quality with a non-stick finish, and you can practically wipe them clean.

That's it...this thing definitely goes on my "wish list"

I had a Coleman, and now I've got a Fox Hill. I gave the Coleman one away to one of my friends. I've had this oven for awhile, and all I can say is it's a much better product. Totally satisfied with it. BTW I bake potatoes in it, without the foil too. They are just as good as at home. Biscuits and cookies are good too. If you want to motivate the campground, the smell of fresh chocolate chip cookies works!

If you are considering buying an oven, save the price of the folding one, and buy a FoxHill, you won't be disappointed.
