Quote from: GburgPopperI looked at both and went with the Coleman. The deciding factor was the Coleman's grill inserts were open, which allows the flames to "kiss" the cooking food (i.e. BBQ sauce crisps and carmelizes allot nicer!).
:)

Good choice! I thought the Coleman Road Trip was much better than the Thermos.

Had the Thermos, used it 3 or 4 times, didn't like the BTU capacity (or lack of), then it tipped off the stand when I removed the griddle and grill for cleaning, IMMEDIATELY bought a Road Trip and gave the Thermos away!

Shelly

Thans for the input.  I ordered the Road Trip Grill.  Hopefully I will get it in time for our April 12 camping trip!  Since it is on air miles and free it could take 4-6 weeks to get!  Now I want to buy the griddle inserts as well.

Ya got me thinking about steak on the grill....hmm.... you're right.....gotta have the flames!!   Returned the Thermos today (glad I didn't use it yet).. and got the Coleman...can't wait to fire her up....

After having the RoadTrip for a few years, we finally used it as a "grill" last fall 1 time. As a stove/griddle I love the thing! But as a Grill it really did not impress me, we'll keep using the lille smokey joe when time dosen't permit cooking over the fire for our grilled foods..

Shelly

Just got our grill yesterday!  Talk about fast it wasn't even 2 weeks and they said 4-6 weeks for delivery.  Think I will add steaks & BBQ food to the grocery list.  The weather here has been great BBQ weather.

My review of the RoadTrip Grill:

We used our RoadTrip grill (pop-up dealer reccomendation) for the first time a couple of weeks ago. We love it! We got the blue colored model which has the detatchable legs so you can put the grill on a picnic table, if you desire. (I believe the red model is the LXE which has wheels on one side). The user ratings were best for the blue RT, and it was cheaper so we went with that one.

(Practice set up and take down at home so when you get to the campsite you won't be fumbling around. Your friends & family will be quite impressed on how well you know your new grill and how nice it looks when set up).

The water in the pan was strange to us at first... (no briskets, no charcoal) but, after eating our first meal of steak, shrimp & veggie shish-ka-bobs, we were convinced that this mode of grill cooking was going to work out just fine. The food was absolutely delicious! Besides, the water pan made clean-up very easy; the grease drips down into the water pan, you pour it out and wipe it clean!
In the morning sausage & bacon were cooked on the grill while we had eggs on the griddle. Simple and yummy! Lunch was dogs & burgers = delicious! (Our friends/family had these crappy little grills, cooked on them and then asked to use our RT.... :p )

Carrying case is not included... too bad! It's an extra $35 bucks but well worth it. The RT is bulky and somewhat heavy to manuver even with 2 people. With the case there's a carrying strap on both ends and can make life easier. (There's wheels on the case, too). If it's raining and you have to take down camp quickly, you can slap that baby into the carrying case and you won't have a greasy grill to mess up your TV or PU. Clean it up when you get home.... enough said!

Bottom line... Buy this grill, you WILL love it! (I do not work for the Coleman corp although they should give me a stove attachment for the great review I just left!!! ;) )

We have the blue version as well and love it.  Here's my tip to make clean-up even easier: We don't mess around with water in the drip pan.  Instead, we line the grease pan with foil, and then when the trip is over, take it out, crumple it up and throw it away.  Easy, Squeezy. :)

Hey griffsmom.... hmmmmmm, interesting. Have you ever had a grease flare-up without the water? I guess it wouldn't be any different from the grill we use at home. It doesn't have a water drip pan and we've never had a grease fire.
Thanks for the great tip - next time we cook on it, we'll try it with the foil.

(My DH will be very happy cuz he's the one who cleans it!  ;) )

I usually use foil in mine and never have had a grease fire. However, IF you camp in bear country, you probably will want to clean it out (whether using water OR foil) each day, rather than waiting until the end of each trip!

Good tip - I don't think there are any bears in So Florida, but there are other critters who might want to explore our grill.... raccoons, Key deer and ROACHES.... UGH:yikes: !
I'm freaked out with Palmetto bugs & roaches! I will clean out the foil or water every night before beddy time regardless of where we are.

Like Lori, we use foil. I got tired of washing the pan.
