I stopped at my local Outdoor Power Equip store at lunch today.  They offered to sell me the Honda eu1000 for 719.00  Tag on the gen was 789.00.  They said they would still honor the "winter" price.  Is this a good deal on this Gen?

Not in my opinion.

IMO, you would be much better off buying a second hand EU2000i than a new EU1000i for the same price.

The EU1000i is quite limited in what you will be able to run. Remember a generator is rated at MAX output, not continuous output. You can only run at max ouput for a few minutes before the generator will shut itself down. Continuous output rating on that gen is 900W and that is pushing it. General rule of thumb for generators is 75% of it's rated capacity.

I see them on craigslist.com all the time for around $750. I've purchased 2, like new EU2000i's for that price and have no problem with them.

You can buy lots of used 1000w Yamaha generators (also top quality like Honda) because people buy them and find out that they won't do what they want them to do. They sell them and upgrade to a larger one. You could buy one of these for $600 (or less), try it for a while and sell it, if you don't like it, and not lose a dime.

I opted for the 2000i when I was looking for a generator. I think I paid $800 for it a few years ago. For the incrimental increase in price you get a lot more versatility.

Agree with the above posts. You can get a 2000i Honda for not much more.

Thanks all for the excellent feedback. We have decided on the EU2000i. Best price so far is Maybery's 879.00 with free shipping and no sales tax.

good luck with it. I think that you will be happy with that decision.

The EU2000i will give you the ability to run a lot of home items that the 1000 wouldn't run. It will even run your fridge for those times of power failure. A MUCH more useful tool.

question .... I assume with this generator I can actually plug the shore power cable into the generator to provide power to the PUP if desired.

That's correct. However, you will need a 30A to 15A plug converter..

Just don't try to run your AC with it or too many appliances all at once. Remember the 75% rule. You can run 1500+ watts continuously. If you try to run the ceramic heater and microwave at the same time, the generator will shut down. No big deal. Wait 5 minutes and start it again (first turn off the ceramic heater).

Cool, No AC power.  Only lights, waterpump, furnace and portable TV/Radio.

Mayberry's is the best price I've seen anywhere, so far. Good choice.

Just ordered the EU2000 for 879.00 and a cover for 20.00.  Will be here in 4-6 business days. ..... woohooo!

FYI, Mayberry's is no longer selling Yamaha gens, they will only be a Honda distributer.  I found this out when I checked on a price for the EF2400ei gen.

I was shocked that my Generator showed up on Friday - 3 days after I ordered it ... Thanks MayBerry's and FEDEX!!!

Question I have after reading the manual, I guess I assumed a generator for camping and such would be an all weather device.  Per the owners manual they say you should not use wet, while its raining as possible electricution can happen.  What do you all do when it rains?   I thought about running it under a bunk end, but I am not sure that is smart because of the carbon monixide threat from leaking up into the bunkend.

Wow ... this must have really been a dumb question since nobody has provided any feedback.  I will be using my generator on private property and I plan to run it frequently.  Just was thinking ahead to the days it is raining.  Lots of air flow under the bunklend, figured this would be a nice dry spot for the gen, with the muffler pointing outward from the camper, this would limit any carbon monixde from seeping up into the bunk end  ????

There are no dumb questions..

I use my honda EU2000 as a backup power supply to my house.  It lives inside in a closet most of the year.  It runs outside 15 ft from the house on a board to keep it from vibrating itself into the ground during mud season :)  Last high wind/rain event was in april? when the generator ran outside in the est 7.5" rainfall for 5 days straight (123 hours).

Electricity & water do not mix well, usually electrocution results.  After I plug in the 2 extension cords to reach into the house, I start the generator & do not touch the cords again.  Works for me, might not for you.  BOL

I've run mine in the rain. I'm not saying that it's OK to do. CYA statement.

One more tip for you.......After you've run the generator for about 50 hours, you might want to consider changing the oil over to Mobile1. Synthetic oils transfer heat much better and should add years to the life of your generator.
