Sounds to me like that truck would pull any popup made.

We tow a 2008 Flagstaff 625D with a '04 F-150 Regular cab, long bed 4x4 with the 4.6 V8 and automatic trans.  It also has the tow package.  The 625D is a 12' box w/storage trunk in front and an air conditioner.
GVWR 3006, Dry Weight 2502, and Hitch Weight 362.  Add the ac, water, propane and all the other stuff we carry and it's probably close to the GVWR.

I think the F-150 does a great job. We tow in the WV mountains with no problems.  In the mountains I disingage the OD.

We tow our '05 Rockwood Roo 21Superslide with our '97 F150 with the 4.6. DH has added the computer upgrade to the engine and has it set for towing performance. (at least that's how I understand it) The truck tows fine, we do feel the hills tho, even tho DH swears it's because I over pack. We are very careful to maintain the engine and trans and run high grade fuel only. We've found that 55-60 mph gets us the best gas mileage while towing. When we caravan with all our friends, we are the pace setters, and they are all amazed at how much better their fuel mileage is!

That is the same same engine my 04 Explorer has.  Your rear axle will determine how much you can tow with the engine.  I don't think you would have any problems using it for your TV.:)

I have the 4.6 in my Sport Trac, and it is equipped for the 7,000 towing capacity.  It is often cheaper and much less trouble to make sure tht you have the right axle ratio and towing package on the new vehicle package rather than make mods right away.  The only disadvantage I have seen of the 4.6 so far is that it is thirsty.  With 4x4 so far my Sport Trac is averaging 16.9 mpg for mixed driving, including the towing.

Thanks for all the help...I live in the mountains of W Tx (yes, we have them:) )so topo was more of a concern than the max wt. on the TV
I have decided to go w/ the 4.6 crewcab 2wd (less wt. w/o the 4wd) or the big V8 in an extra cab (cheaper)

We towed our 05 Niagara (highwall) with DH's F150 Super Crew 4.6L V8 and he didn't have any problem towing with it.   Now, towing our HTT with it is another story.  We had to purchase an F150 Supercrew 5.4L to be able to have enough umph (sp) to tow up-hill or on inclines.

We tow with an '03 F150 Supercrew with the 4.6 engine and it does fine.  We tow an '05 Niagara and also a 20' Pontoon Boat.  The PUP does fine, but the boat tends to make the truck a little more thirsty.

We towed an F150 about this same time last year with our Audi Quattro Avant.  It towed just fine...

...up onto the shoulder of the road and out of the way of traffic!
(sorry, couldn't resist)

The 4.6 engine is a good engine, but I will pass this info on from the GM side.  The Tahoe is available with the 4.8 and 5.3.  The 5.3 gives better fuel economy towing than the 4.8 does.  Since you are looking at a full size truck, you might want to check how the 5.4 people do as well (especially fuel economy) to see if it is similar to GM.  Just a thought.

I don't think my 96 Audi Quattro A6 avant would have the least bit of trouble towing a Ford.  Especially past a gas station!!  :D

C4 bodies rule!

i am sure the 4.6 would pull it just fine but if possible, i would recomend the 5.4 as i have heard the gas milage difference between the 2 isn't much.  the gas millage does suck though.  i get 13-14mpg and this is mostly interstate driving.

We used to have the big V6 standard trans, F150 and towed all over, Mountais of WV, PA, MD, NC and TN, hills of VA and into KY and Indiana.  Would drop that puppy into a lower gear and could keep up with the biggest of you all going up mountains.

Now I have an F150 with the small V8 and auto trans, have lost a lot of the power.

With both, gas millage really stinks.

But try towing with a windstar...that really sucks the gas towing. Took it and the Cabin A to Myrtle beach for Thanksgiving week, we decided it would have been cheaper, even with all the side trips top have towed with the F150.

But once again, it is a gas thirsty FORD, reliable, normally, but very very thirsty.
