The other day I was reading my PU owners manual.  It talks about putting air in your tires at the local gas station.  When I first got my PU I was trying to put air in the tires, so I got it all hooked up and drove to the closest gas station, backed it up next to the air hose only to find out it was broken.  Then I went to another station...broken again.  After one more station I was so frustrated I went straight to the hardware store (with PU in tow) and bought an air compressor.  And I have to say I'm glad I did.  I bought a small Craftsman air compressor for about $125 or so.  I use this thing often.  Between 2 autos, a PU camper and bicycles we have about 21 tires!  If your trying to check my math don't forget to add the spare tires. :) On top of all that this little tool will air up a flat soccer ball in seconds!  I love things that are useful.

Me too. Bought my Craftsman 5hp 30 gal air compressor 20+ years ago. One of, if not the best tool investments I have made. Air tools can be a Godsend when working on older vehicles, RVs, etc. not to mention airing up tires. Our new camper is an HTT that we can't park at the house so I bought this
Air Compressor and it too has proven to be very useful for airing up the camper's tires.

The old compressors are great. Sooo much better than the oil-less versions sold now.  I too have an old craftsman.  Twin cylinder, 110v, 1hp motor.  Makes 100psi and that's fine for everything I do.....and it was $40 at the swapmeet.

I bought an oiless a couple of years ago and it makes so much racket you cant stand to use it.

I also use a Sears air compressor, but it isn't a Craftsman; it is a David Bradley.  Back when Sears sold garden tractors under the David Bradley name that were two-wheel walk behind units, they had a finish mower attachement, a weed mower, a sickle mower, a plow, cultivator, disc harrow, and an air compressor.  I quess that these were made in the early 1950's or late 1940's.  I have the air compressor attachement, still mounted on the attachement device that was used to attach it to the gasoline motor by belt drive, that was adapted to be run off of an electric motor by my grandfather in the early 1960's. It rattles, shakes, and due to a glass and brass oil feed, is messy, but it still works well.  Taken care of, these will last for decades!  These older garden tractors sure wouldn't be accecptable in today's safety conscious society.  You can see the old attachements at http://www.davidbradley.net/David_Bradley_Garden_Tractor_Attachments.htm

My brother bought one of their $400 oiless uprights a few years ago.  It's just miserable to use.  When it kicks on, you either need to leave, or have a set of shooting muffs on your ears.  Ridiculous that anyone would build a compressor like that.

Yep!, Bought mine almost 40 years ago. Of course they were a lot more money for them back then. It is a 120 volt 15amp and has a 10gal tank. Only broke down once, it was the startup capacitor. I do everything with it ... Great item to have in the garage.
