Title: I won t be able to camp much this summer
Post by: Horscampr on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
In an effort to pay off some old debts many of the things I would normally get to do during the summer will have to be put on the " back burner."

I am hoping to get in at " least"  3  camping trips this summer, but that might be it.[:(][:(]

The only good news is that it is a possibility that my horse may be able to come home and live with me once these debts are taken care of (he is currently being boarded).

....I m trying to look at the bright side of this.  I am at least thankful I have my  cyber camping board here at PUT s..

HorscamprHorscampr  Glad to see you made it here. I hope everything works out good for you and that you can get out camping this summer. Hope to see you at one of the clubs campouts again this year if possible.

HorscamprI think alot of people are in the same position you are in.  Last year we only got three trips in.  One of them was vacation so it was a week long, but I know of no other way to stay at MB for 9 days and 8 nights cheaply besides camping.

I wish you the strength to stay on track to get yourself in better shape financially, it is a very hard task to do.  Make the most of the times you do get to camp, so the memories will last a long time.[:)]

We ll think of you often and keep us posted on your trips and success. (Celebrate each payoff or success step by step to keep yourself motivated.)

HorscamprSorry to hear that you will not be able to camp as much.[:(]  Do you know anyone that has some property you could go and set up on, so you could avoid the campground fees?  We do that sometimes and it is nice to get away from so many campers.  Hope you can make more trips than you are planning.[:)]

Horscamprsorry to hear that, hun. last year, after like a HUNDRED years of camping in an old and i do mean OLD slide-in truck camper, we finally got our dream, an `02 westlake. got it in april. well, just as we were planning all the weekends we were gonna go, i got hoodwinked (ahh, you know i love it) into babysitting these 3 dgk`s. sooo, there went the camping, right out the window! dd works most weekends, but we did manage to talk the OTHER grandma into taking over a few times. so, like i always say, it could ALWAYS be worse!!! hopefully this year as they are not infants anymore, we will be brave enough to take them and be able to get out more. maybe the next year, you can go more often, too. remember, all things for a reason. keep yer chin up, it will work out!

HorscamprSorry to hear about your $ problems, Carol. But keep your chin up. I lasted through 13 years of child support obligations. Had to do without for a long time, but I m finally begining to see the light at the end of the tunnel.[:)] Only 3 more yrs of child support to go.
Hope to see you at one of the GLPUC camp-outs(maybe Blue Mound), and if not, you ll be here.[8D]

HorscamprTry and remember that like most things, it s not the nubmer; it s what YOU make of it that is important.  If I went camping only once this coming summer, I d remember every moment of it.  Make it the best you can when you go.  I am so " proud"  to hear that you paying off debts etc...  You have true character.  You are a person I am proud to say I " know" .  Keep working at it and you will see the rewards.  Hope you enjoy every second of camping when you go. You deserve it!

HorscamprThanks again everyone for your thoughtful replies!!  Once again I am reminded why I subscribed to this forum.  Most of the people from the horse forums I belong to probably wouldn t be this kind.

 Miller Tyme,
13 yrs of child support?  YIKES!  Now you have my sympathy[:o].  Somtimes I equate the cost of owning a horse to be similar to what it would be to raise a child.  Don t worry about the Blue Mound trip, I still plan to be there.  Those reservations have already been bought and paid for, so that will probably be one of my three trips [:)]

 tlhdoc,
My parents own land up north where they share a cabin with some of my dad s hunting friends.  I go camping up there quite frequently just for that reason (no campsite fee[:D])  It has a nice sandy drive for me to park the camper and a huge firepit, plus endless trails for hiking and riding.  I am sure I will be up there at least once this summer!!

 MtnCamper,
Thank you for the offer, but I m still trying to find a way to teach my horse to lay down in the back of my truck so I can take him camping (I can t tow the camper and a horse trailer at the same time LOL). ........OR maybe one of these days I will meet a nice guy who likes horses, camping, and enjoys towing things (owning a large truck might be a prerequesite to marriage....LOL).  Anyway, when I figure it out, I would love to come your way!

 Bayside Bruce,
Your post was very sweet!  I am glad to say that I know you as well!!  In fact, I am proud to say that I know everyone from this forum.  You can bet that I won t go an entire summer without SOME camping.  Poor Poppy would never forgive me[:(]!!  I know for a fact that I will get at least 3 trips (and like you said, I plan to SAVOR each one).

HorscamprI m in the same boat as you too. My last son and child is getting married in October so I don t want to camp the seven weeks before. My luck.....my back will go out for some stupid reason so I don t want to risk it. I know I ll go one or two holidays and maybe a week.....I ll see. Like you said, thank goodness for our cyber campers....we can enjoy to hear about their trips.....Keep smiling![:D]

Must be the economy.  I just told my husband we will be seeing a lot more of the
back yard this summer.  Gotta camp somewhere.
 Love this place

HorscamprCarol, like the others, I really admire the maturity of your decision to get on a sound financial footing even though it involves sacrifice right now.

I am sorry that your camping will be so limited as a result of your  $$ situation but there are two comforting thoughts that come to mind.  One is that you will always have us here to cheer you when you can only camp " in spirit" .  The other is that if you can bring your horse home, you will be cheered and  consoled everyday by being able to  look into that beautiful and noble face.  And it will be wonderful for the horse as well to be able to be close to you!   (We kept a Tenn Walker-Arabian mix (mare) here in Ga for our oldest daughter and every time our car pulled into the drive, Brandy would be CROWDING the fence waiting for " Her"  Girl to get out of the car![:D]

Someday you will be " free-er"  of worries and debt, and you will look back and realize how wise you are being now.  Meantime, there s PUT and us AND the horse!![:)]

HorscamprYou can add me to the list of broke and in debt popuppers!  That s why I camped two weeks in a row solo until Monument Lake in Big Cypress (Fla) started charging their $14/fee.  I got two FREE camping weekends.  And since it was a 50 min. drive the gas consumption wasn t too bad either.

I usually take at least one (and sometimes two) friends with me to help with gas and CG fees.

I m also in the process of compiling a list of the cheapest CGs - and ones that don t zap the whole amount upfront onto my credit card (like the State Parks that are usually the cheapest!).

That s the bad part: let s say my card is charged $60 and each friend gives me $20...guess what happens to the $40?   It somehow never gets to into my account so i can write a check to the credit card company.

Another bummer is that there are some free campgrounds in Everglades National Park and Big Cypress but they are closed because private campground owners complained!

HorscamprHorsecamper, if you were up here in CT, I would gladly ask that you come camp with me at my seasonal site.  I know that it is not the same as PU camping, but it is camping.  I wish you the best of luck in getting your horse back home.

HorscamprPJay and I have not been able to plan any camping trips for this coming summer.  We took the first real step in a HUGE new direction today that leaves all kinds of plans up in the air.  The summer is likely to be taken up entirely by bringin these new plans to life.

I ll let PJay tell what s really going on...if and when she is ready.[:)]
