Title: April showers... UPDATE
Post by: AustinBoston on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
If April Showers bring May Flowers,

 What do April Snowstorms bring?[:o]

 Bad Attitudes![:@]

 Austin

 UPDATE:

 4/7/03:

We are getting another 6-8 inches in the next 24 hours. [:@]  This is getting a little more than annoying.  I ve lived in this area for 43 years, and can t recall this much snow in one April before. (Except the April Fool s blizzard of  97...but most of that was in March, we had to clean up on April first.)  The NWS forecast includes snow for the next three days, and possibly more at the end of the week.

 Enough is enough, already!

AustinBostonOur April showers all turned to ice, and all the trees and surfaces were covered with a thin skin of it.  It looks pretty, all glistening and shiny, but that s only when I m looking at it from my living room window.

AustinBostonWell, our ice lasted all day, and now it has been raining/sleeting again for several hours.  That pretty, thin layer of shiny sparkley ice has become a thick coating.  We also have some pretty strong winds. Every time the wind blows, all you hear is crackling sounds.  It s more than just the ice cracking, it s also the limbs and branches of the trees and bushes.   I went outside with Spanky a little while ago, and grabbed her and ran just in time when I heard branches cracking over the back yard.  We had just made it to the porch when the limbs started to fall.  As we stood there and watched, I could hear a big crack from the old maple in the front of the house, too.  It s pretty dark so we can t see just how big the branches are, but both back and front yards have downed limbs.   I m surprised that we still have electricity.    And just a few hours ago we were talking about maybe being able to go camping soon.  Not as long as this stuff is hanging on!

AustinBostonApril can be a funny month! Up there it s still snowing, and daylight savings time starts in 2 days!

When I rolled the trash can out front Monday morning, there was a thin film of ice on it. But on Tuesday it was 75 degree s, 80 on Wednesday, 85 yesterday. Today was very odd, it s been so warm, I wore Tee shirt and shorts to work (tow truck), and it got to about 81 degree s... But around 2pm a back-door cold front blew in, dropping temps to 54 degree s... I was miserable the rest of the day from the cold! [: (]

But the bright side is, I m going camping in 2 weeks!!!! [:D]

 Plow trucks in the ditch!!!
Yep, this morning on the way to the job site, one had slid off the shoulder during our ice storm, and another stopped to help. Guess what? Two plows in the ditch.[:D][8D][;)]

I don t know which one to choose but I have HAD IT.

In my last post I mentioned that I had just finished snowblowing 6 inches of snow on Friday morning.

Here is is Saturday morning and I am getting ready to go out and tackle another 8 inches of the white stuff.

If anyone sees a grey Sienna pulling a 98 Mesa doing about 80 on Route 95 heading south, just wave, I ll be behind the wheel.

There is at least a foot of new snow sitting on the roof of the camper.[:(]

AustinBostonNow our next door neighbour broke the driver s side window of her car, she was pounding so hard it was inevitable [&:][&:][&:]

It was a lot fun to do the newspapers this morning, (NO, I did not break my cars glasses, turned the heater on, let it warm up for 15 minutes, and all ice on the windows slided off the car). Everywhere was ice on ice, on snow on ice on snow , you get the picture.

Ut was a beautiful scene though, and weird enough, the ice had some texture to it and was not slipping, it was quite walkable, with no sudden movements, afelt almost normal. As the sun dawned, more ice came down from the sky and gorund became very slipper, but by that time we were almost done.

I am hoping this is the last day of snow and ice     [:o]

Everybody and his brother was out looking for breakfast or coffee this morning. 4:00 this afternoon the power cam back on just in time for me to watch the last 4 laps of the Busch race. Anail bitting caution finish (really was, everyone was running out of gas) For area s just north of here they re predicting next weekend before they get power back.

AustinBostonAnd here we sit in Minnesota, been waiting for snow all winter long.
We only had maybe 2 marginal snowfalls all winter long..........
bearly 6"  each, and they never lasted very long.

But it s too late now, I don t even want it!!![;)]

So you can all keep your snow now![:D]

I m ready to move on to the next season. [:)]

JeffreyApril showers bring me a lot of relief from allergies right now as the flowers and trees are giving off big yellow clouds of pollen dust.  It is nice and warm and everything is so beautiful as the beginning of the " greening up"  is in full swing right now.  Dogwoods and azaleas are bursting into bloom everywhere, along with redbuds, weeping forsythia, tulips and daffodils, saucer magnolias, purple wisteria.  But watch out for the oak trees as they are pollinating right now and can be the source of big allergy attacks.

AustinBostonI hate snow and ice, yesterday while doing the last newspaper of the day, a steep declining driveway, (probably 30 degrees or so, so bad, they don t park their cars down at their house, but leave it at road level), I slipped and landed flat on my back [>:][>:][>:]

Sharp pain on my back, but subsided within couple of hours, all seemed to be ok except my hurt ego :) I had to smack my son laughing so hard of course. But this morning, I find that the two muscles going from the chest/lower neck area to the neck are really sore, obviously i strained them or something, such an uncomfortable feeling [:o][:o] feels like as if I am going around with clawed tight jaw [:(][:(]

I can t wait till this winter is over !!!!!!!!
