Title: Farewell thee old Forums...
Post by: AustinBoston on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
When I tried to look up a campground on the Old forums, they were gone...

We knew the day would come, and aparently, now it has.

AustinBostonI can t believe it. I ve been using the archives a lot lately, since I can t seem to remember anything about how to clean the canvas, the black streaks, etc. This was such useful information and in my opinion, one of the main reasons to spend the $ to stay here. [:(][:@][:(][:@]

AustinBostonThe old database had to be taken offline.
We will make that information available ASAP.
It may be in CD form, online like it was or a hybrid solution.

We never intended to take it away.  It will be available again.

AustinBostonIt just doesn t feel like home anymore without the archives..

I could have REALLY used those archives today..

I took apart my city water valve and re-set the o-ring.  Works like a charm now..  It was just spewing out water like a mad whale..

Now if I could only figure out why my front storage light won t light.  Switch works.  Pressure switch seems to work - parking lights on/off.  Bulb ok.  Fuse ok.  But no light...

AustinBostonIt s been three more months..  Are the archives lost forever?  REALLY??

It is such a shame..  It seems that any answer I need is already there.  Sure I could re-post the question, wait a few days, and hope that whoever knows the answer is still here on PUT..  Or I could just do a 15 second search and have my answer IF we had the archives back..

Another case in point.  Months ago I was not in the market for a microwave.  Now I am.  I KNOW there were tons of responses on this subject.  I also remember that only some of the small units could actually pop popcorn.  Yes, I could re-post this question (and I know the member in question is still here) BUT!!!!!!!!

 ok, rant mode off..

BTW I have learned a tremendous amount of information from my years at PUT.  Without all that I ve learned here I would be completely lost and would never have bought a pop-up in the first place.

I feel that PUT deserves something for what they have done - that s why I paid for a membership.  But truth be known, if I had to choose between a membership to PUT or a membership to the PUT archives I think I know which one I would NEED to pick..

jdrI would also like to see them back in some form -- that being said.....

Actually, sometimes it is better to ask the question again.  We are always getting new people on board and they either have the answer or have never thought of asking the question and it helps them out as well.

Sometimes with the old answer, someone may have used the solution, but did some mods that make it work better.

I know some people get upset with seeing the same question, but if it hasn t been hit in a while, go ahead and ask again.

As far as a microwave goes, if it s for the camper, go to a yard sale/auction.  I picked one up for the old PU and paid only $8.00.  As far as only popping popcorn -- as long as the item fits in the microwave, I found that any microwave will work.  I mainly cook vegetable, finish meats that are just taking too long, heat things, popcorn, etc in my microwave.

 Hope this helps[:)]

angelsmom10I would be wary of buying micrrowaves at garage sales. If they are leaking, they are very deadly , please be careful .....

DH used to work on them -- most have a safety feature that they usually don t work with a leak.  I d also use my judgement in its condition
