Title: " Camper-warming" gift for new PU
Post by: springer02 on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
Some friends of ours just bought a  PU and I d like to get them a little " camper-warming"  gift but I can t think of that perfect something.  They have three kids, a 17 year old girl and two 12 year old boys.  They have tent camped for years so I m assuming they have the basics.  My first thoughts were plastic or other non-breakable wine glasses, towels, a first aid kit or that green astro-tuft stuff for under their awning.

 What do you think?

springer02You re right.  They probably have a lot of camping type stuff.  How about a subscription to PUT or membership here in the Arvee club?

springer02How much you wanna spend? Possible pop-up oriented gifts run the gauntlet from $3 stick-on levels to wheels chocks to Lynx Levelers to a BAL Leveler. How about a grey water " starter kit" :  ball-valve Y-fitting, couple-three feet of hose and fittings, and a collapsable 5-gallon jug. Flexable cutting boards, 4-pack @ $3.95 at Wall-Mart. Radio Shack multi-meter for testing the battery, 10-40 bucks depending on which flavor you like. Lots of things to choose from, though I guess a new Prodigy brake controller would be pushing it a bit far, eh?[;)]

springer02If you go with something to go under their awning, instead of the astroturf-like stuff, get one of those mats from PUT.  The turf holds in the dirt and then when you fold it up it gets all over everything.  Plus, if it rains they are a soggy mess and the backing will start to peel off.  The mats on the otherhand, dry in five minutes after hosing all the dirt out of them.  They really are awesome!

springer02We just got a little boot brush for cleaning your shoes before going into the popup.  Very useful.  So if you weren t giving a subscription to PUT, that s a nice little gift.

springer02Everyone has made great suggestions!  We have almost everything that has been mentioned, and it has made camping so much nicer. Any one (or two [;)]) of those items would be greatly appreciated by your friends.  They are fortunate to have you as friends!

But I notice there is one thing no one has mentioned yet: tacky lights!  (also sold in the PUT store!)[:D]

springer02I think the mat is a good idea, although I don t have one. I also think wheel chocks and/or Lynx Levelers are a good idea.

And the subscription to PUT or the Arvee Club is a good one too.

springer02With teenage kids - what about that privacy/porta potty/changing room thing Suezyque found at Sportsmans Guide?  I can t find the original post though.

Although, the subscription to PUT/Arvee sounds really good to me, too.

springer02Based on numerous threads, almost everyone starts out thinking that the converter is all the battery charger they will ever need.  If you are looking to spend about $30-40, a good automatic battery charger will start them off right.

Another idea that was on the board about three months ago was a two step step ladder Rubbermaid, $14 Home Depot or Menards.  Used as a step ladder when setting up the awning, a seat by the door for removing muddy shoes, and as a table between two chairs at the campfire.
