Title: Distracting General Forum Page?
Post by: sandykayak on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
With all the symbols and flashing lights, does anybody else have visual trouble when they get to the first page of the threads?

I m having a hard time reading the actual subject lines.  And since we have discussed muffins, perhaps someone could enlighten me as to what those yellow things are after the subjects.

They look like nipples to me[:o]

They are, in fact, nipples.  Or, quite possible, transposed sunny-side-up eggs.  Or, icons directing one s attention to the threads that have had new posts submitted within the last 24 hours.  (A shortcut, duplicating the date/time stamp on the far right column... )

sandykayakThose sandwich thingies are throbbing, as in throbbing headache.  I think a different color would be more useful than throbbing sandwiches.

This hard to get used to -- I like to see the availability to " active topics since last login"  like the old board had.

Are the sandwiches the things in the far left column?

sandykayakThey are actually fat little stars denoting your being a Charter Member as of Jan 5.  One star means Charter Member after Jan 5.  No more stars after Jan 31..

I ve waited a while before commenting in order to get over the " newness."  I have no problem with the icons or the web design. My only negative, at this point, is the black background with yellow-green type employed on the General Forum page. I can read it OK on my work computer with its 22"  screen. That is definitely not the same on my laptop at home. I have a hard time reading the topics. Surely, I m not the only one with that problem. I m not criticizing Dave or the enterprise. It s simply a case of legibility.

sandykayakWidewader, have no fear! You are not alone!
On my home PC computer, I too have the black background and greenish yellow letters on the General forum page, but on my Mac OS at work the page is gray and black letters. Why is that?
Well I noticed that on Internet Explorer the color is gray but on Netscape the background is black. Can it be changed?
 Lifes a mystery [;)]

sandykayakNow I know what the problem is. It s a  Microsoft conspiracy. I don t use anything but a Macintosh at home and at work. I realize that us Mac users are in a minority, but graphic design is a Mac thing. I guess I ll just have to put up with the alternate universe we Mac users have been shunted into by Bill Gates and his minions. He probably knows my address, my email password and what kind of popup camper I own. Thanks for your kind responses. Oh yes, Jack Daniels, usually, and an occasional cigar. Honest.?

sandykayakHey! You guys were right. I downloaded Netscape 7.1 this morning and " WOW!"  It sure looks better now.  Legibility is not a problem anymore. I love that alternating gray and white layout. I can t wait to get home and do the same thing on my laptop. Looks like Bill Gates and his minions have been repelled again. Macintosh lives!
