Live concert performance[:D]
Ok, get your minds back to where they should be!
Mine was, Jimi Hendrix, 1967, Will Rodgers Auditorium, Ft. Worth, TX. I was 11 yrs old. Oops, gave that away, didn t I? Oh well.[8D]
So what was yours?
bikoleeHuey Lewis and the News. I think it was around 1988 at Riverbend Music center. I was 15 when I went. Had a great time.
bikoleeThe Kinks when I was 16, then there was a Benny Mardonis concert. About 10 yrs later...AC/DC in London (free ticket), then Western Flyer doing a free show, and last one was Riverdance here in KC...shows you how often I go to concerts. I figure...buy the album, so much cheaper.
bikolee1st was in June 1976. Nazerath in Bismarck, North Dakota....Just outa High School. Some chick puked on the back of my bell bottems....I washed it off with vodka sour from my bota bag! (I now drink Walkers Deluxe and water)
2nd was July 76 Fleetwood Mac in Billings, Montana. The headlines in the Sunday paper when I got home said...." The Metra, Haven for Hashpipes" and it showed a picture of the concert full of smoke. Yes...it was more fun than legally allowed. My parents baited me and asked how the concert was and I told them it was great. Then I read the paper which was sitting on the kitchen table.
I come from a small town 250 miles from each of these places. We drove home when it was over.
The last concert I was at was in Santa Fe, NM last Spring. It was a group called Matchbox 20 which I never heard of. Sounded good. Caught a few whiffs of some Tijuana 2nd hand smoke, had three beers and fell asleep in my chair....I was tired.
I m old aren t I.
bikoleeOh Boy! You are going to love this. It was, believe it or not......
" David Cassidy" The guy who played Keith on the partrage family?
My Oldest Sister wanted to go, and she couldn t find anyone to go with her and my folks said she could not go alone! So I being the Little good Brother that I am went with her. I guess I was about 10 years old at the time.[:o]
bikoleeSimon & Garfunkal at Greensboro, NC I think??? if not I know I went to these!! or could that have been Logan s& Messena(sp)
Beach Boys at Carowinds Amusment Park
Alabama at greensboro, NC
My daughter who is 18 has seen more concerts live than I have!!! she when to 5-6 last year alone. Nice when they work it keeps them/her out of my pocket..
bikoleeblue oyster cult, decatur armory, oh bout 1970 i guess. i was...well, too young to drive! hah! totally freaked out the whole time though, saw a security guy that looked alot like the principal at our school(yeah, i know, how lame is that!) so i just stood there the whole time, eyes buggin out like one of those diva starz dolls hahhah.whew, those were NOT the good old days [;)]
bikoleeProbably the Detroit Symphony at Meadowbrook Festival, late 60s (?). Tony Bennett sang with them, and a guy that played a bass (?) flute - very cool concert, even though I was a kid. Now if you mean my first live concert WITHOUT my parents [8D], guess that was probably Boston at what was then the brand-new Joe Louis Arena, around 1976. Don t think my hearing has ever recovered, but it was a great concert.
bikoleeMine was the Carpenter s [: (]. I was in the 6th grade at the time though and they were pretty big.
Guess that goes to show how long ago that has been [:)]
bikoleeR.E.M. and 10,000 Maniacs
I was in 8th or 9th grade. I can t remember which.
I had a great time!!!
Zooey[&:]
bikoleeWow, I wouldn t think this would be hard??? The earliest one I can remember is Fleetwood Mac & I think I was about 20??? I might have been younger or a little older?
I remember the first concert I took my oldest daughter to, Michael Jackson back when he was wearing the " glove" , she was probably about 7 & then I took my youngest to a " Nick" concert when she was about 8 and she saw Aaron Carter, she was in heaven.
bikoleeJoan Baez--Pauly Pavilion at UCLA--about 1970. Saw her in Berkeley in about 1988.
Also saw Elton John twice, Billy Joel once, Kenny Loggins twice, and Weezer. Do you think that there might be a story behind the Weezer concert? There was.
gsm x2
bikoleeDamn Yankees and Bad Company, Green Bay, WI the night Desert Storm started.
At the end of Damn Yankees set, Ted Nugent got out the bow and arrow and put one right through Sadaam s head, then the target exploded![:D]
The encores were " You can still rock in America" and " Bad Company" .[;)]
bikoleeWow, either all you folks is much younger than I, or I started early. But then again I was listening to the Stones in the 3rd grade. BTW, I was with some other friends at the JH concert. No parents.
Not even going to try to list all the shows I ve seen. But another memorable one was the original Traffic with Dave Mason.
bikoleeWow, I m almost afraid to admit this!!! My first live concert was Paul Anka here in Grand Rapids in about 1959 or 60. He sang " Put your Head on my Shoulder" , and all of us little poodle skirters were so thrilled.

bikoleeBryan Adams opening for Journey, summer of 1982, I believe. I was a sophomore (almost a junior) in high school. Drove to Saratoga Performing Arts Center on my junior license with 4 friends.
bikoleeI can t recall for sure who was the 1st concert I saw...But I still have all the stubs from way back then someplace in my attic.
I m thinkn it could of either been Bob Seger at the Allen Park Ice Arena, yes he used to play in skating rinks[:)]. Or it was a multi slate of Iggy Pop, Mott the Hoople and Arrowsmith as a back up band ...
Along with those I recall seeing J Giles, Jethro Tull, Neil Young, Elton John, Pink Floyd,
Kansas.....those are the ones who stand out in my memory, the rest is somewhat cloudy
The strangest concert had to be Frank Zappa

Talk @ all of us getting O-L-D!! [:o]
bikoleeWell I have to reach quite a ways back for that one....
OK, I have it Loggins and Messina at Miami Marine Stadium around 1973 (+ or - a ouple of years)
bikoleeThis thread is a hoot! [:D]
My first live concert was Ozzy Osbourn, Bark at the Moon, I think around 1986/7
bikoleeBeach Boys at the Reseda(suburb of L.A.) Jubilee -First-around 1964.
Moody Blues at South Lake Tahoe,a couple yrs. ago-Last,so far.
Both concerts were fantastic !
bikolee3 days at woodstock.... I was fifteen....
Man that was a long time ago!
Have a flowery day now all you cool types out there.
bikoleeI actually saw Bobby Vinton...[:o], and I think I was about 12 (parents dragged me). First solo was Journey.
bikoleeMine was Kerrville Folk Festival back in 1976 when I was 11 years olds. I am still freaked out about the stuff I saw there.
bikoleeoh bikolee I was 2 in 1967. lol
forestwalkerThis is embarassing but before I say who it was, I want everyone to know I was with my parents - Neil Sedaka!
Looking back, besides Neil Diamond (5 times), there have been quite a few people I saw. I could have seen Billy Joel and Elton John the first time they were touring but I backed out like an idiot. I m still kicking myself over that one.
forestwalkerI have no idea which one I saw first.
Doobie Bros, Kansas, REO, Styx, Eagles... those are the early ones I kinda remember. [;)]
forestwalkerThe Carpenters--I was in 8th grade. We thought we were so grown up going to a concert. I think my first concert on a date was Three Dog Night. (ok, I am a child of the 70 s).
forestwalkerAlthough this was not exactly a concert, when I was 12 years old my friends parents dropped us off at the Universal Amphitheater to see " Jesus Christ Superstar" ...I wore a maxi dress (remember those?) and we thought we were so cool! My first real concert was a couple of years later to see Chicago at the forum.
forestwalker
Prince ~ St. Paul Civic Center (now the Xcel Energy Center) ~ December 1984

bikoleeBoston, at Cincinnati after the fateful Who concert. Right after the first Boston album was released. Once the concert started no one sat down. One of the best concerts I have ever attended.
forestwalkerKelly, did you party like it was 1999.
bikoleeVan Halen, around 79 or 80. My ears are still ringing.....
bikoleeEarth Wind and Fire, Chaka Khan, Wild Cherry and Tower of Power. What a great concert! Although I must say (not to offend anyone) but I think me and my friends were the only white people and this concert, what a blast we had! You could pick us out of the crowd a mile away...lol. Have never been to a more fun concert than that one, although, Bob Seeger s came pretty darn close.
bikoleeLouisana s First Day of Rock and Roll at the Superdome. July 1979. I was in technical school stationed at Keesler AFB. Boston, Blue Oyster Cult, Van Halen, Heart, Nazareth, Sammy Hager, etc, etc. 12 hour concert and still made it back just in time for morning formation at the base. (barely [:D][;)])
Cheers
forestwalkerI can t remember for sure if it was the first one, but I think it was the BeeGees in Austin Texas, maybe 1977 or 1978. Wow, it s hard to remember back that far!
[:D]
bikoleeThe first concert I can remember going to was ALABAMA back in 1980. It was at the York Interstate Fair. I don t think I need to tell you how old/young I was back then[:D].
bikoleeMy first concert was Hermans Hermits, at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. I think I was in either 5th or 6th grade. Too many concerts since then to remember them all [:D]
forestwalkerMine was the artist formerly known as (or is it now known as) Prince. It was the Purple Rain Tour in 1984 at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
forestwalkerTom Petty and the heartbreakers-Irvine Meadows Ampitheatre. Damn the Torpedoes baby![;)]
This was back in the late 70s, back when Lion Country Safari was still next to Irvine Meadows. My friends and I knew of a gap in the fence where we could sneak into the ampitheatre, so we did. While we were crawling through the underbrush, we kept hearing these really weird sounds--like a low rumbling--close by. When we snuck under the fence, we realized we had crawled through part of Lion Country Safari! Yikes!![:o] Nice kitty...
