Title: Farewell (for now!)
Post by: Diplomat on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
I have finally received confirmation on what I have known for almost a week.  I will be deploying with I Marine Expeditionary Force in the next few days.  They haven t told us where but I can read the news as well as anyone.

I will think of you often.  You can be assured that PUT will be some of the first folks I say hello to when we return.  I know that the next few months will see this board grow and mature and I am sorry that I will not be here to see it.  Although I will spend most of the next several months sleeping on the ground and in various kinds of tents I am sure that I will want to go camping as soon as I return.

 DiplomatDiplomat,

We wish you the best of luck where ever you are going.  May you stay safe and return home soon.  Your pop-up is really going to feel good to camp in after camping in tents on the ground for so long.  Once you are where ever you are going to be if there is a way to contact us at the boards, please do so and let us know where we can send some cards and letters to get you through your withdrawl from this great board.  Take care of yourself and let me just say that we are so proud of our service men and women.

DiplomatGood Luck and as Doug said...keep your head down.  Lets hope it doesn t come to it...but as an old Sgt told me once..." Let the enemy be the martyr...you just do your job in letting him become one, and come home" .

griffsmomThank you all so much for your thoughts and thanks.

The past week has been full of ups and downs for our family.  The waiting is hard.  I still don t have a firm date of departure.  I do know that I will be leaving, just not when!

I know that we are well prepared and that our sacrifices are necessary for our nation.  We are well and ably led at all levels.  Our nation will do what is right for the right reasons.

griffsmomJeff you are in my prayers for a speedy and safe return!  And I thank you for being willing to sacrifice     precious  time with your family, home,  friends, (and popup) in order to risk your life defending  our country. You are in my  nightly prayers.

And each night I think also  of all the other young lives so willingly  being put on hold for the freedom of those here at home and I pray for their safe return.

I wish the time would come when all the armed forces of all the nations of this earth were made up exclusively  of the wealthy men in all their governing bodies (no matter what their political or economic persuasions)  Perhaps if  wars were physically  fought only by the old and rich who run the world, they would find a way to achieve  peace...

It will be easy for you to find our PUT Welcoming Committee when you are once more on home shores because we will have a roaring campfire lit and waiting for you!.

 griffsmomDiplomat,

All the best to you on your tour in the Gulf. I retired Navy in 2001 after 24 years and my last ship was a big-deck Amphib (SAIPAN) so I m familiar with working with the Corps. Thanks for your contribution to this great nation of ours and, as they say in the Navy, " Fair Winds and Following Seas"  as we pray for your safe return.

 God Bless,
 Dave
