Again,,
Another weekend is coming up and they are calling for more rain. What is a camper to do ? Folks, for those of you who are not getting the rain, we are not talking about an hour or so here. Many weekends it has been for days. It gets very cool and damp. Lets wait one more day? Other Ideas?[:@][:@]
whitestar505Follow the three-step process:
1) Plan on not camping. Don t do anything to get ready for a camping weekend. Plan something else instead, such as yard work or visiting the Mother-in-law.
2) At the last minute (meaning late on Friday afternoon), change your mind. Weather systems can t react that fast. You might get some rain late Sunday afternoon.
3) Don t blame me if it doesn t work. You MUST have done something to tip off the weather gods.

whitestar505My motto has become: " Camping in the Rain is better than NOT camping!"
AustinBostonAustinBoston,
I do know it is cold up there in Beantown. I have tried most of this stuff by now, this is my thrid cancellation, and the seventh or eight weekend now.[: (] How much can one Camper Stand. Show Me the Weather God. Only kidding!!!!![:D]
Like I keep saying, I do not mind the rain but it goes on forever. Don t laugh I am spenting more money on cancellations then camping.
garym053Garym053,
I think I will put my camper up for sale. Maybe it will stop raining.
whitestar505Funny that you should mention that. On the holiday weekend we stayed home because our house needed painting really badly. It rained for most of the weekend, but at least DH was able to get some scraping and prep work done. But he was kinda crabby about not going camping. I asked him how many Memorial Day weekends do you remember, when all of our kids were younger and we went camping only to have it turnout rainy and cold. And, because we were there and we wanted it so bad, we would stay thru the whole weekend, hoping for just one nice day. One of my Ds s worst camping stories involves a family campout, with a total of 7 or 8 kids, all around the 5-11 age group. It rained so hard that you could hardly see, and the little camper was so full of wet people that we took all the boys (5 of them) out to the back of the pickup truck (had a cap on it) with their sleeping bags, coloring books, some games and some hot wheel cars and they ended up staying in that truck almost the whole three days. (they got out to eat, go to the outhouse, etc.) They fought constantly! Just goes to show you what campers will do to go camping. However, we sure wouldn t do it now that we re older and smarter. LOL

whitestar505Do as we do... camp anyway. We ve gotten a little wet, but we still had a good time and we re glad we weren t home. Fortunately, it stops raining during the week so everything has a chance to dry out before the next rainy camping trip. I have to say, the saving grace(s) in our campouts has been our awning, our reversible mat and our ez-up canopy for over the picnic table. I do love the sound of the rain on our camper roof! [;)]
We aren t camping again until Father s day weekend. HOPEFULLY the rain will be gone by then and we ll be in the middle of a heat wave! [:D]
wiininkweGreat Story! wiininkwe,
I do need to ask you to do something for me if you will? Could you please tell us where you are from so we can relate a little better. Thanks[:)]
Okay, I have it now Wyoming, Michigan, If you put that info in the from box under your profile you would have more room to write notes in your signature box. Just a thought..
campingboaterscampingboaters,
How do you like that ez-up canopy. I have been wanting to buy one but just can not bring myself to do it. You stated that you use it for the picnic table, how large is it?
The problem with the rain with us is that we sit inside with the TV on for most of the washout. No kids, except the dogs and they want to sleep all day.
Sure hope the weather is better for ya on fathers day. Good Camping!
whitestar505Hmmm.............Cancel a camping trip for rain?
How do the forcasters know where you are camping?
The only weather I would cancel a trip for would be if a major storm, tornados, etc.
But rain? or cool weather? Not a chance.[8D]
I hardly get to go camping as it is.........[:@]
whitestar505If I can distribute 100 or 200 newspapers under rain or snow , I surely can camp under rain ! (Not in a tent I guess[:)])
EVERY saturday it rains !!!! Every Saturday !!!!!! I am sick and tired of it, here we are on 3 rd of June and another rainy Saturday predicted ! I hate it !!!! But oh well, life goes on so ......
whitestar505Whitestar505,
We used to have a 10x10 ez-up Dome canopy but it got " bent" during a BIG rain storm last Labor Day at Big Timberlake resort in NJ. It worked well, and if we had gotten another one, we would just take it down when we were not going to be around to knock rain water off. It handled regular storms fine without us doing anything, just not torrential downpours overnight without us knocking the water off.
I think the canopy we actually have is a Quik Shade 10x10 recreational. We got it from Sports Authority on sale for around $150 and I think we saw the same model at Home Depot for $150. http://www.thesportsauthority.com/product/index.jsp?productId=532014&cp=713364.712492&page=1&pageBucket=0&parentPage=family
It s much heavier than our old ez-up, but this one comes with a bag with wheels to help move it around. The actual canopy size is 10x10, unlike SOME canopies that say they are 10x10 -- that is the size of the extended legs and the canopy is more like 9x9. Our old canopy was like that.
Anyway, our new canopy covers an 8-10 foot picnic table rather nicely. I wouldn t camp in the rain without it.

wiininkweOKAY! Good to Go![;)]
campingboaterscampingboaters,
Thanks for the info... They are pricey?
whitestar505Well, we decided we are going no matter how much it rains. We also decided to eat all meals out. BW likes that one. This should kill some time for us..[:D]
It is raining right now like cats and dogs.

whitestar505whitestar505,
Yeah, the canopy we got was on the expensive side, but my DH has to have the best! [&:] You can get the Quik Shade Weekender 10 for around $90 at Walmart -- at least that is what I found on-line. I think you can get some of the 10x10 ez-ups for around $100 too.
We started with the CHEAP $15 dining canopies (that use poles and ropes to stay up) for several years during our tenting years, but they are impossible for one person to put up. Then we got one of those backyard canopies that you have to put all the poles together ($30-$50). Very functional, but took too long to set up. Then we found the ez-up and having a shelter to stay dry under with a five minute set up time was priceless to us. When that one got bent, we knew we d have to replace it.
It s pouring right now here near Philly. Since we re not camping this weekend, the only thing this is doing for us is guaranteeing a muddy June Fete Carnival this weekend. It s a HUGE affair put on by a local Hospital that we attend EVERY year. It s the place to see and be seen! [;)] Unfortunately, it s held on a grassy area -- or should I say muddy area. Better wear some boots and bring shoes to put on when we get back to the car. [:@]
My DH is also planning on replacing some windows in our house this weekend. I PRAY for your sake and ours that this rain STOPS soon! We NEED new windows!
tlhdocTracy,
Well, here it is Thursday and we have had four days of rain. Now the weather has changed again to cloudy most of today, sunny tomorrow, rain on Sat and Sun.The temp at 2PM yesterday was 55 . Can not see driving 1hour to sit in the rain. Soooooo... I guess we are changing our minds again. Happy Camping!
whitestar505Boy, I know this will sound a little harsh, but it s for your own good.[;)]
You are really a " fair weather camper" you should sell your roof and tenting to someone who will use them.
QuoteWeather Channel says for Aberdeen.............

saturday........ also good , but might have a little shower- big deal
sunday......... Ok so there is a 30% chance, geeze live dangerously?
There is always a chance of rain, You ll never go if you wait for (0% chance for three straight days. I never study the forecasts all week, your driving yourself nuts.
Just plan to go, pack your stuff and as long as there is no tornado or hurricane on your tail, JUST GO!! Geeze!?????????? Quit listening to the forcasts all week!
OK, I have that off my chest, Understand I have a lot of built-up camping preasure, cause I haven t been able to go yet.
Not because of weather though, it s been work and family stuff?[:@]
JeffreyHang on, Jeff!! Your turn is coming real soon! [&:]
And in MN we camp rain or shine! [;)]
See ya at the campfire [:D]
KellyKelly,
QuoteAnd in MN we camp rain or shine!
Has to be because you are use to it. [:D]
KellyI just got back from Minnesota, Had really good weather. 65/70 daytime and one night it got down to 38. But we were deep in a valley, where it tends to cool off rather nicely. Had no mosquitoes, but did find a couple ticks.
MtnCamper" " BALTIMORE -- Remember the song, " Blame It On The Rain?" Some doctors blame the rain for health symptoms such as weight gain, depression and fights.
Since the beginning of May, the Baltimore metropolitan area has only had two sunny days. So how can you cheer up until the sun comes back?
Rainy Weather Has Some Blue
WBAL-TV 11 NEWS reporter Jennifer Franciotti reported that if you re like most people, you ve had it with the rain!
When asked what he feels like doing when it rains, Charlie Shettle said: " sleep, watch TV and eat."
Michelle Madison said it makes her " grouchy -- I want to stay inside all the time, I didn t want to go out today, but I had to."
" It s just depressing. You wake up everyday and it s raining. When it s sunny people are in a better mood," Eric Battle said.
Brenda Hannon, a clinical counselor at Mercy Medical Center, said the gloomy weather makes depression worse for people already battling depression and it s physically draining on others as well.
" We need sunshine to lift our spirit," Hannon said. " People will tend to sleep more because your body is weary."
Hannon said there are ways to fight back to keep the rain from dampening your mood. Among them include avoiding alcohol because it s a depressant and could make you feel worse. Also, stay connected to others, reach out socially -- and dress in bright colors. Hannon said it s important now more than ever to stay healthy.
" We have to be more intentional about exercise and eating properly," Hannon said.
And laugh. Experts said when it comes to rainy weather, laughter really is the best medicine. Humor boosts endorphins, thus lifting your spirits. So try telling a good joke or renting a funny movie until the sun shines again, Franciotti said. " "
Do you all remember the thread this past winter called SAD?
KellyOk, You forced me to do it!
and remember it s for your own good.[;)]
Is it better to sit home, and cry about the chance of rain?
Everyone, Go to the Poll section and vote.
And anyone that votes " cancel" , I ll say it now.......ahhh nothing!
JeffreyI new sooner or later the word cry would come out of this thread.. Stop your crying Jeffrey! Misery likes company! The sun just came out, have to run out to take a picture![:)]
KellyIt s about time someone said it![8D]

Kelly, Not much sneakin when you re pullin with a diesel.[;)] You are all way up North, we were in the more tropical part, (southeast corner). But we did spend a night at Kilen State Park (nice) northeast of Worthington. Then on to Houston MN. Spent 5 days at my brothers farm, We were camped out in the middle of the woods. Totally alone, quiet and it was great! Coyote s crying at night, and wild turkeys in the daytime.

aaaaaaaaaaah ~ Worthington. Turkey capital of the World!
Glad you had a good time!
btw ~ I ll be in CO in August ... Want me to wave on my way through the Fort?? [:D]
JeffreyJeffrey,
For someone who does not post to much you sure jump on people. I just try to keep thing going.
KellyKelly, If you are here the first couple weeks, let me know, I think the last half of the month we will be going northwest from here. Glacier and on into Canada. But we will have to see what happens.
KellyWhitestar505 ~
My deepest apologies for hijacking your thread [&:]
How is the weather there now?? Did the sun stay out? [:)]
... and yes ~ we do get used to the rain here in MN! [:D]
KellyYup, Me too.... I hate when that happens![:o]
Don t worry about the rain, go anyway. Even a wet day campin is better than stayin home!
KellyWhitestar
Don t take offense with Jeffery. To know him is to like him.
You just have to understand his sense of humor.[:)]
whitestar505After so much rain here that I could not even put in a garden the sun is shinning this morning and we are not going camping. It is going to start again tonight. We are going next week when the long range forcast calls for two days without rain.. We are going anyway but we do not have children with us which makes it easier as we can ignore rain without children to entertain.
KellyIt s raining ~ it s pouring ... [8D]
Jeff ~ the PU is still up in the driveway ~ you bring the coffee and dry firewood and we can camp here! [;)]
KellyWhitestar, the sun is shining...has to be 35 miles to the south, unless the Susquehanna does something to the weather.
I was pulling the popup Wednesday down to Soloman s Island so my step-daughter can get ready for the Rally, had rain all they way, fog south of Baltimore in places like Bowie. The came back 301 and an accident on the Annapolis Bay Bridge (I hate bridges) and one in Middletown DE, making the trip home that much longer.
and I did not even get to camp!!
KellyIt can rain all it wants by me. I have a rainsuit for fishing, a big hat for standing.
My PU doesn t leak (at least not yet? fingers crossed)
I planted a lot of trees this year, that I cant get water to.
So I m hoping it rains, at least up there.
I ll even go up there to stand & watch in the rain, if I have too. [:)]
What s that saying?.... " rain, rain, leave whitestar alone, go water my trees instead"
Or whatever it is[:D]
whitestar505On my way home from work today I passed camper after camper. ( on their way to Jellystone in Natural Bridge) I just thought to myself I WISH THAT WAS ME[>:] The weather here is calling for heavy rains and flooding ( I hope they don t take the new river sites because the river comes up in them, when the water gets high).
But, as you can see you have to go for it. Have fun and enjoy.
KellyCamping in the rain is definetly better than not camping at all! This weekend however it is going to be snowing in Colorado, and I draw the line at snow! Had 2 great days in the Rockies, but came home to avoid dealing with the upcoming wrath of the weather gods, SNOW! Let it rain, and I will still be at the campgrounds havin a good time![;)]
Rocky Mountain SueIf we didn t camp in the rain we would never get to camp! The only time I hate it is if it s raining when we pack up, we don t keep the pop-up at our house and it is inconvient to have to pop it up when we get home. Other than that it s not that much of a big deal. (got that furnace to dry out now, a real luxury over the tent camping days!)
Rocky Mountain Sueahhh...the FURNACE to help dry it out! What a great idea. We can t keep ours at home either so it could potentially be a real pain if we have to shut it up wet! We can t keep it set up at the site we rent for long either. This should help!
And to Whitestar....I feel your pain! We re in Northern Virginia and on tv yesterday they said we ve had only 5 dry weekends since the beginning of the year! This one coming up doesn t look much better! We are scheduled for our walkthrough on our PU on Saturday...and of course....rain is predicted!
Last Saturday we decided to go look at a couple of campgrounds in the area to get some ideas of some close places to camp. A couple of them were totally shut down because of flooding! We aren t talking a little rain here! ;>
Come on, lets do the sun dance!!! Of course, today, while I sit here at work....it s GORGEOUS outside!
