Who Recycles their cans & bottles when camping?
I ve noticed at some campgrounds we ve visited lately, they are providing seperate recepticles for recycling aluminium, glass and plastic.
However, they are not always consistant.
Recently when I was camping, I seperated out the bottles and cans, to recycle, but at the 4 dumpsters on site, only one of them had recycling containers alongside it, and it was nowhere close to my campsite.
Does anybody else make the effort to recycle when camping, or just not care. The campgrounds have huge dumpsters, so why not just dump everything in there.
6QuigsI bring our NYS returnable bottles and cans home for my nickle refund. If I think about it and we actually have other cans and plastics that can be recycled and not returned for refund, I ll seperate them out.
6QuigsWe recycle if the campground has a place that allows us to. We probably should be good monitors of the environment and bring our recyclables home if the campground doesn t do it but I couldn t stand the thought of the ants having a field day in our empty bottles and cans.
6QuigsMost of the SP in Maryland do not have recycling containers but we always bring home the cans and bottles with us to recycle. I am not sure why the SP don t but it s not that big of a problem to bring them home with us since I can just throw them in a bag in the back of the truck.
6QuigsMost places we have camped have places to recycle so we do. If they don t we usually toss the stuff.
6QuigsCamping recently at Mission Tejas State Park in Texas, they had white plastic buckets, about 5 gal, marked for aluminum cans only hanging on a tree or post at each site. Kinda gave you the idea they were into recycling...or one of the rangers was collecting and selling cans.

6QuigsIf we know the park has a recycling bin for cans then we will but we don t go out of our way if they don t.
6QuigsMost of the State Parks here in Ohio have seperate trash cans to throw cans and bottles. We recycle the most that we can. They use the money for park improvements like swingsets and horseshoes.
6QuigsWe recycle both at home and while camping. Most of the PA state parks have separate containers, but if we go somewhere that doesn t - I bring them home.
I save the cans for a pet rescue group that I volunteer for, we use the money to help spay and neuter feral cats.

6QuigsI bought a large diaper pail to store Michigan s ten cent returnable bottles in. If we are out of state it depends on the campgrounds. Newspapers are usually used to start fires. Plastic bags that we get fgroceries in are saved for garbage and are not in any shape or smell to be recycled. As we usually travel on our longer vacations I do not want to haul things with us for 3-4 weeks until we get home.
