Title: No running lights.
Post by: jstaddwtr on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
We went to Virginia Beach this weekend and realized we lost our running lights.  [:(]This happened once before when we had a the old TV so we really believe it is somthing to do with Hermes (our PU).  .  [:(][:(]All the other lights work, brake lights, turn signals, flashers.    Never asked for help before.....but would appreciate some thoughts.     Still under warranty ... but wonder if it may be somthing simple that we should know that is fairly simple.

jstaddwtrCheck to see that the wires where the tail lights go into the plug are not broken or pulled loose.  If you have what is called a 4 flat plug, the brown wire is normally the tail light and running light wire.

jstaddwtrIn addition to checking the wires, a dirty contact will do it.  Some hardware stores, and electrical supply stores will have a contact file (a flat file about 1/4"  wide) or in a pinch an emery board.  This will just fit into the female plug.  Clean the contacts.  The male contacts can be cleaned with either the file or fine sandpaper.  The spray with contact cleaner.

jstaddwtrI had this problem with my old Starcraft once, everything worked fine except the running lights. It turned out that the running light wire on the trailer plug had come out of it s connector. Took an hour to find it, about 3 mins to fix it!!!
