I think I have pop-up fever.
I get up in the morning, and think of some place we have been camping. There are lots to choose from:
* How about that desert campground in Arizona, where the air was so clear we really could see for hundreds of miles. We were there on July 4, and could see three fireworks shows at the same time...
* Or maybe that site in the New Hampshire woods where we could hear the river from inside our pop-up. By my definition, the perfect campsite.
* How about the place on Grand Isle, Nebraska, that was surrounded by corn fields. All we could see was corn.
* Or the sand dunes at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Climbing a 150 foot high sand dune is tiring.
* Or the aroma of fir trees that were up against our pop-up at Crater Lake NP. To think, the snow pack there gets over ten feet thick. The road is susally closed until June.
* Then there were the bears in Smoky Mt. National Park.
When I finally drag myself out of bed, and look out the back window, there is the Taj MaHaul in the back yard, covered with snow and ice, looking so...abandoned.
I check the board as soon as I can, then again at lunch break, and sometimes as soon as I get home from work. Oh, and once again just before bed, just in case.
I think about places we might like to go, and imagine returning to places we ve been before.
* We ve never been to Baxter SP in Maine.
* The only places we ve camped on Pennsylvania are right near Gettysburg. There s a lot more state than that!
* Some of the kids have seen glimpses of Shenandoah, but we ve never camped there. (PJay and I honeymooned there...maybe we don t want to bring the kids...)
* We ve heard enough about the lakes in Minnesota that we re kind of anxious to get out there.
Oh, yes...
So I think I have pop-up fever. I think the only cure is to go camping. But sadly, we have big enough plans right now that we are kind of skittish about planning a vacation. That only makes it worse.
Can someone help me, please?
Austin
AustinBostonWish I could help you there AB but alas, I feel I m afflicted with the same fever myself!
That s all I think about is the camper, where I m gonna store what, where we re going first, then second then so on, man I want to go somewhere in my pop up!

Uh, you ll have to get that info from PJay...when she is ready to tell. And no, there are
NO family expansion plans, expectations, hopes, or fears.

AustinBostonI have the same fever. I lay awake thinking about camping and listening to the night sounds. Now I just lay awake and worry about all the little critters that might be having a hayday in the camper. I used moth balls and dryer sheets and hope that they work. My DH said he saw little prints in the snow under the camper so I just have to keep my fingers crossed.
It seems like sooooo long ago that we were camping. I miss it. (Sigh)
AustinBostonoooooooo a MYSTERY!!!!!!!!!!!!![:D]
AustinBostonI wouldn t say I have the fever. But I did put the camper up today. Just wanted to see how it was doing, and if it missed me or not. It was great. It was good just to take a cup of coffee out and set in it. Now doesn t that sound stupid!
Actually I was measuring for a mod I m in process of. Not telling what it is though. But it s a biggy!
AustinBostonthere once was a pop-upper named pjay
her mystery she just would not say
you just can`t imagine
what tongues will be waggin`
so, tell us, please tell us, TODAY!!!!!
oops, wrong thread heehee[:D]
AustinBostonI must have it too. I had to sign up today! I couldn t take it any more. Not all that much activity on the board yet though. Oh well, Spring will be here soon enough.
AustinBostonI had a chance to get innoculated for the fever but decided against it. The cure would definetely be worse than the disease. Thankfully, spring will soon be here(sooner here than in other places) and I guess I ll just have to wait it out. I ll take two aspirin and call ya all in the morning. [;)]
AustinBostonI have the same problem. I know i need to open up the camper to do some work on it. As in replacing the sides of the roof i didn t do last year. But every time i plan on doing it. The National Weather Service decides to issue a winter strom watch. And sense i don t have a garage to work in .Alas you all know my problem. I am dieing to get this thing fixed so we can go out this march. I know thats not close but time does fly by. I am just going nuts.

Got reservations in for three trips already ~ just keep looking at the calendar.....[:(]
Must be time to start planning the road trip! [;)]
AustinBostonAustin, what you need is Dr. David s Pop-Up Camper Winter Therapy Course! It s an easy self-help program designed to appease the " inner camper" that resides in all of us, desperately trying to break free in times of camping lassitude, languor, and lethargy.
First, walk outside and talk to your camper. It needs your attention, craving your company. You think it s fun being covered in snow all winter? Pop it s top, and caress it s fabric. Show it how much it means to you. Finish setting it up, treating it as you would a trusted friend. Don t rush, you ve got plenty of time.
Find some Christmas trees that haven t made it to the local landfill yet. Stand a few around your camper so it feels like it s in the forest. Ahhhhh, you can smell that evergreen aroma wafting through the pores of the canvas. Imagine that sound you hear isn t really your neighbor s dog howling again, but a pack of coyotes. It s the Call of the Wild, and you are One With It.
Grab that old Weber BBQ, and pull the legs off it so it sits at ground level, prop some bricks around it, and build a fire. Let a little smoke drift by you, softly invading the layers of clothing surrounding your body. Breath deeply, and remember that perfect flame you kindled so many months ago, at that campground you miss so dearly.
Suspend a hunk of cow (ox?) over the flame. The primordial sensation of preparing your hard-won meal sears the trappings of civilization from your soul, and you rise up to pop the top from a well deserved liquid refreshment of your choice. Yes... Your Choice! Your choice, because you refuse to be a victim, held hostage to the cruel demands of the calendar. Yes, a man on a mission. Yes, a man ready and willing to camp where no man has camped before. Yes, it s The Backyard in January! Yes! Yes! YES!
There, don t you feel better now? [:)][:D][;)]
AustinBoston(you guys got it BAD)
AustinBostonForgive me for the return limerick...but this is how I post my reply:
There once was a redhead named PJay
who teased the board all night and all day
What was her secret they wished
She laughed and said sh-h-h-h
When I m ready I ll tell you that day
AustinBostonOnly one cure (antibiotics are no help!). Argh, PJay - now we re waiting on pins and needles. You re gonna tell us soon, right?! [&:]
-Teri
AustinBostonAb Diver you have a very good way of dealing with the fever.[:D]
PJay please tell us soon, didn t your mother ever tell you it isn t nice to keep secrets.[;)]
tlhdocHmmm, I just wonder--could this be described as a very " MOVING" secret?[;)]
tlhdocWe all think we have the PU fever bad[:D], the other day DS was outside and we caught him hugging the camper. When we asked him what he was doing he said, I want to go Camping. At three years of age, Does he have it bad or what?[:)]
tlhdocEveryone will have to forgive the limericks cause I set up my clues first based on the limerick question posed to me.
Clue # 2
To Minneapolis St. Paul she would go
A college there, How would she know?
Her daughter or her?
How could she be sure
To Mall of America, They ll go!
tlhdocWell since I have had no more bites...I wonder if I should give my last and final clue?
tlhdocThe only thing worse than having PU fever is having PU fever when your by yourself and don t have anyone to " share" it with. You know what they say " Misery loves company." hehehe.
Unfortunately, I cannot camp as much this summer (although I may be wrong about that if my mom has anything to say about it. When it comes to camping, she doesn t understand the word " no." ) Fortunately though, I live in a place where I can put my Poppy up in the back yard if I feel the need to do so and can do some back yard camping. While its not as good as the real thing, its better than nothing.
I too, am counting the days until spring. Well, the days ARE getting longer and we re only a couple of months away from nice, spring weather. Never mind the fact that as I write this, its snowing like crazy outside with up to 8 inches expected....YIKES!!
tlhdocThe GOOD news - There s only one cure.
The BAD news - There s only one cure.
tlhdocI think DS has it worse then we do. Besides hugging and kissing The Mothership, he is all ready packing for the trip to Hillsdale at the end of march.

IT sure looks like you have the FEVER. But, what ever you are doing, have fun.
Your not the only one that has set up your camper and had coffee in it. But, I haven t done it this year. ( because my husband stored our camper at his grandma s). My fever is getting high, hopely the RV Show in Richmond will bring it down a little.[:D]
Thanks to Springer02 for letting me know about this show.
