As usual, we just decided to go camping over Labor Day weekend. We re coming back from Raystown lake in Pennsylvania (near Altoona) on the Thursday before Labor day and are looking for a campground in the Lancaster area (I m going to need to do some back to school shopping, last minute of course). We re looking for somewhere that has a pool. We ve tried the following places with no luck: Spring Gulch, Eagles Peak and Country Acres.
We did find an opening at 3 Seasons in Rehoboth Beach, DE since I was looking for somewhere near shopping outlets, but we re not sure we want to hurry up and leave Raystown that day to drive 6 hours to Delaware. And if we went to Delaware, we would only stay until Sunday to avoid the traffic going home.
Such problems! ;-)
Let me know of any other places I might be able to try!

Have you looked under the reviews yet? I know there are some there that we go too. This morning I was looking on the web at http://www.lakeinwoodcampground.com/directions.html Another is http://www.springgulch.com/ or even http://www.jellystonepa.com/. There are a lot of camp grounds in the area. They all are about the same on what they provide.
Want right in the heart of things try OLD MILL STREAM.

campingboatersThanks whitestar505, but Lake in Wood is booked as is Spring Gulch. I didn t know about the jellystone. Have you ever been there? What are the sites like and is the pool nice? We like somewhat private shaded sites with full hookups. I know we re being picky and we might not be able to be picky at this point.
I keep trying to tell DH " What s the worst that can happen? We don t camp over the very hectic long weekend with everyone else in the world."

I have been to Jellystone in Quarryville, PA many times, just got back the weekend of July 25. Sites 53-63 are Sunny sites. Sites 37 and 38 are somewhate shady but smaller than sites 111, 116, 208 and 209. We prefer the area where 111, 116, 208 and 209 are, somewhat larger and shady. I like this campground because it is 45 mins. from home and more for children to do. Pool is nice. Hope you find a site.

Yes I have been to Jelly Stone. In fact Joe Buskirk and I have both been there at the same time. It is a nice place. I do agree with all he has to say about Jelly Stone. My spot is site 209...[;)]
campingboatersI have camped at Warwick Woods Campground which is close to the area, it is near actual farms that we drove through stopping at a farm stand with very nice Armish girls working. The camp had a pool and our site had one of the best fireplaces that I have ever seen at a campground. We were about an hour from Hershey and 45-50 minutes to Sesame Place, you can see what we did on the trip. Not sure about shopping.

It s located southeast of Wilkes Barre, I80 and Rt 115. We ve been there twice and plan on going Labor day weekend.

I was looking at the Jellystone is Quarryville, but I have to say, I m nervous about Jellystones in general. I ve stayed at some bad ones (growing up) and they are very similar to KOA s which I m also not fond of.
I found a site at Oak Creek in Bowmansville, PA, but don t know enough about that campground. Hopefully, I will find someone with info on it.
I guess I m just afraid of ending up at a not so great campground that will be even worse during one of the busiest weekends of the year. What I REALLY want is for my husband to make the reservations and if it stinks, he can t say one word to me! [:D]
campingboatersJust got back from Shady Oaks, which is near Eagles Peak. It has a pool and clean bathrooms. The owners are very nice people. The sites off to the left side of the map are all set back in the woods, they looked real nice.

campingboatersThanks again for the replies. I like larger sites for the most part -- unless I know I m not going to be around ALL day, so Oak Creek is not looking good, but I will have to check out Shady Oaks camp.
I REALLY like the sites in the upper part of Spring Gulch. They claim those sites are 60X100. That area is not all cleared, but there is MORE than enough room for our 19 hybrid, our awming, our canopy and probably 3-4 cars. Then, the rest of that space is covered with shrubs and trees in between the sites. While I like Spring Gulch, it is on the expensive side and I would LOVE to find that little gem of a campground...
I REALLY just have to make a list of places to check out and spend a day driving around to them. I ll most likely do this in the fall as many places won t even let you drive in to look around if they are packed. I like and hate places like that. Hate that they don t even want to entertain possible new clients, but would like it if I was camping there and didn t have tons of people driving through the campground. [&:] AM I nuts? [8D]
