Title: vinyl windows ??
Post by: AlaTex on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
What is the best way to clean vinly windows?  The windows on my 2000 Coleman Mesa seem to be yellowing.  Is there a cleaner to remove the yellowing?  Has any one replaced the vinyl windows?  If so what method and where did you get the replacement material.

AlaTexUse [link=http://www.marinestore.com/plexus.html?cart=311258611752399]Plexus[/link], it s the best thing for vinyl windows that I could find.  It s been recommended by several others on the old PUT site.

Did a great job cleaning up our windows.   However, mine weren t yellowed, so you may get different results.

AlaTexI use Lemon Pledge.  It takes a little elbow grease, but it s cheap and readily available.  It does a good job with fingerprints, dust, etc.

AlaTexYep, I ll second the motion for Plexus. Best stuff I ve ever seen for vinyl windows. Not only cleans the plastic, but revitalizes it as well (do I sound like a hair commercial, or what?[;)] )

It s one of those items Dave REALLY needs to carry in the PUT store, like " 303 Aerospace"  protectant for the tires and BAL levelers. I m gunna bite the bullit this spring and get a BAL leveler, it d be neat to support this site while doing so. Maybe some details can be worked out somewhere.

 Hint, hint....

This seems to be the site where we can order.  I am sure it is available somewhere else too.

AlaTexThanks popupcop, however it seems you must order a minimum of 12 cans from the manufacture.

I agree, it would be great if Pop Up Times Store could offer the " Plexus"  cleaner and the ?303"   - I have found the ?303"  at marine stores though.

AlaTexWest Marine sells Plexus vinyl cleaner by the single can.

 http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=72456

Get the big can so you don t have to worry about running out. Our Bayside uses up a good portion of the can, but it has a 12"  box (but no windows on the bunks, just screen and canvas) A trailer with a shorter box will use less, but if you have vinyl windows on the bunks and slide-out side walls, as well as the box, get a couple cans.

Yeah, it ain t cheap, but this stuff really works! Kinda like a Prodigy brake controller.... once you use it, you ll never go back to what you had before. And I would pay a little more to get Plexus through this site, just to help support PUT.

AlaTexOne more option. Mopar makes a product for the vinyl windows of a Jeep Wrangler. It does a good job either taking out or masking (never figured out which) the scratches in their softtop windows.

Might be more readily available to some folks.

AlaTexI ve been using Pledge for 5 years or so.  Doesn t seem to have hurt anything.  This week while we were camping, I thought of something I learned on an old board:  When you " open"  a window, zip it all the down.  Fold it exactly in half and start rolling it down with as small a beginning roll as possible.  This keeps the clean side together, the dirty side together, and is very neat and tidy.  Try it.
