Good luck -- hope all goes well
Thanks I hope so too. My fear is Diabetes ... But, I guess they would alredy let me know if I had any indications, as the medicine I am taking right now can not be taken by people who has diabetes. I have a feeling cholesterol will be high, oh well. It was time ti diet anyways. I lost5 Lbs in one week, not good I know but those pills left no apetite at all. All I want is some light veggies and soup, anything else is so repulsive, and everything started to taste so salty for some reason.
Will fill you in when I am back [;)]
birolWhat is the name of the RX you had?
angelsmom10Inhibace 2.5 Mg. I hope it was the worst of the worst. It made me feel horrible.
birolAnd back .....
She only spent 5 minutes with me. Measured my BP, which was 150/120 she said. very high. She prescribed another medicine when I complained about the side effects of inhibace and said, BP is very high and needs to be controlled and that I might have to take 4 pills a day to do that.
I told her, it is probably high because I had to wait for one hour for my 10:30 appointment and got seen at 11:30 and she did not comment [>:]
She prescribed Apo-Atenol which might have some nicer side effects like swollen legs, being unable to breat, depression adn so on, so much fun. I hope I don t get any of the bad effects. Pharmacist said, I probably feel just dizzy till I adjust and that would be all.
Thanks God all other test results came back normal, no diabetes. She said they hadn t done a collestrhol (sp) test, and they will do that next week. She is surprised that all is well and I have very high BP, and she is very concerned, I can see it in her eyes.
When I was getting the pills , I measured it at one of those machines, and it was 150/105 which is more or less what I have been getting all the time with the pill. SInce I didn t take any pill since Monday morning, I thought that was excellent. Maybe the measuring things in pharmacies are all inaccurate ?
Anyways , as promised I gave a status report :)
birolbirol...that is horrible...you want your bp to be under 130/80...that is the european standard which the usa should be adopting soon...and some docs already have...i try to keep mine under 130/80...but i have alot of trouble with my lower (diastolic) number.
i am glad all the other test are good.
are you taking anything for your depression yet? anxiety will help to keep your bp up.
birolI don t trust those machines in the store. I ve been at the Dr and then to the pharmacy and used the machine and it was way off. Just keep what you re doing and everything should work out. Good Luck
Jo AnnJo Ann,
I am not depressed, what makes you think I am depressed ? Seriously. [;)]

When I had the CPAP tests, they used them and showed my BP off the wall(one time, it wouldn t even measure and then around 180/110 or something), the redid it with a regular machine and it was around 142/89 -- much better.

You saw/heard it after Jo-ann told me I was depressed and I started a poll asking people if they thought I was [;)]
biroli don;t know if they do....
i would get a digital one if your heart rate is easy to detect...my bp one has trouble detecting mine cuz my heartrate has a habit of being faint and tachy (fast) and hard to detect with a digital bp thing.
Jo AnnI think I will grab one from wallmart and calibrate it at the doctors office, see how close it is to the manual ones they use. It flunks, I return it back. [:D]

Have you DW learn how to use the old fashion one and that will be the best. We know how to use them, it s not that hard
birolThe digital blood pressure monitors are actually pretty good. I ve had pts tell me that they were close to what we measured many times. They will for sure show trends upward or downward anyway.

birolBirol,
If your doctor still has you on the Inhibace, the dose can be lowered to see if you can tolerate it. But, Joann is right. You need to have your bp below 130/80, which is the standard I use for my patients.
The beta blockers are good drugs, but usually the side effects from ACE inhibitors (like Inhibace) are fewer and farther between. Good class of drugs.
Again, be patient. There are several classes of drugs for hypertension. And don t be afraid of multiple drug therapy (eventually). Sometimes it takes several medications to control hypertension.
Larry
brainpauseSo what you are saying is, side effects of beta blockers are better than ace inhibitors ? I knew I was an ace, and my body did not like being inhibited I guess [8D]
This particular one says, it might result in depression, swelling of feet and hands and some other scary stuff which I understand just might kill me. I mean, rare doesn t mean it doesn t happen right ? [:D]
I hated inhibace, all the headache, and the stifness of my right back neck all the way to my head, and it felt numb. The fatique was unmanagable ......
One question, when using the drugs, will I be able to do that trucking stuff ? involves lifting 15 Lbs of newspapers , around 70 of them or so. With some short break in between of course. 1 minute or so, 5 of them, then 3 of them and so on. Will that kill me ?
birolHope your feeling better, just rememebr most who start Bp meds get dizzy until your body adjust... so be careful when bending over and standing up to quickly... I worked at a pharmacy and the digital bp machines are good but the wrist one was not very accurate.. People always returned the wrist ones..
jpreiserI saw a digital, manual pump arm one at Wall mart today, 38 bucks. I am gonna grab it tomorrow !

Did your doctor also put you on a cholesterol medication? You are describing perfectly the side effects of cholesterol-lowering drugs.
You should not be affected so that you can t drive your paper truck. These drugs are not narcotics or benzodiazepines, which can earn you a DUI.
Like I ve said, you may just have to try several medications (and even several within a class) until you find something you can tolerate. I don t ever use Inhibace in my practice; I use Altace with my patients almost exclusively. Rarely have complaints from pts about it. I think it is marketed as Altace in Canada as well, but not sure.

No, actually, usually the ACE inhibitors are tolerated better than the beta blockers.

Although I believe in an informed patient, the drug inserts found in/on bottles and on the internet sometimes give TOO MUCH information, it seems. Look up any drug you want. Side effects that sound bad are a part of nearly every drug. So be careful reading those papers, else you might have an effect called " psychosomatic" , which means that your mind talks your body into having a certain side effect.

Nope, it was just inhibace ..... I hated taking it ....I hope I don t have to take cholesterol lowering drugs. I thought they had dfone that test too, and when she said all look ok, I was so happy. Right after that she said we need cholesterol test too, arrrrggghhh

Except a slight headache, and little bit of tiredness (I couldn t sleep properly, but that could just be me), I feel just fine. SO I can work, yehaaaaaaa cause I have some days scheduled and need the money [;)]

So Something is wrong with me then [8D]

I surely read too much, and got concerned little bit way too much. It was ridicilous to be honest. I must be getting stoooopid [:o]
Thanks for all the info Larry
