whitestar505Yep, fall camping is great. The fresh crisp cool air, the beauty of the colorful leaves..... We are going (5 families) to Davidson River Campground this coming weekend. Our first camping trip in almost 3 months...... I can deal with the cool or hot temps, but I hope that there isn t any rain.
whitestar505We camped this past weekend at our favorite spot, Douthat State Park right here in Va. It was COLD -- 24 degrees Friday morning. Our little space heater did as well as could be expected....I went out and bought 2 electric blankets Friday morning. It was cozy Fri. and Sat. nights!

whitestar505whitestar505,
I m so glad you finally had a nice trip. I was starting to worry we were losing you. I hope next season is better (less rainy).
I still have my popup popped up in my driveway from the Hickory Run trip. At first I said it was to dry the canvas, that was a week ago. Now it s just that I like having it there. I like walking past it as I go to my car. I like sitting in it once in awhile (I pretend I m off camping somewhere). Friday night, I arrived home from Kelsey s soccer practice freezing. Walked past the camper and smiled. Came in a lit a fire in the fireplace, then went out to the popup with the excuse of getting some hot choc mix and smores stuff (really I just wanted to continue the illusion of camping). Finally had to come back inside the house [:(] but did keep the fire going for a few hours.
Sure wish we it would stay warmer longer. Last year we were still camping in Nov.
Diane
whitestar505I love camping in cooler weather and watching the leaves fall. Nothing like the smell of bacon frying and coffee perking outdoors in the fall of the year. Just layer your clothes so that you can pull off the sweats as the morning grows older and warmer.[:)][:)][:)]
whitestar505Glad everyone had a great trip or a trip planned

whitestar505I feel really depressed that I don t think we will camp anymore this year.[: (] Going on a non-camping vacation has knocked the month of October off of our schedule this year.[:@] Oh well, I can start work planning for next years trips.[:D]
tlhdoctlhdoc,
Have two trips planned for next year with reservations. Both in Vermont so had to do it early. After Oct they all run to the south somewhere and don t open until late spring.
" " I feel really depressed that I don t think we will camp anymore this year." "
I know camping is about over but you need to find something to do during the winter months besides watch Pop-up Times if you know what I mean.
Myself, I am looking forward to taking the Grand Kids up to Liberty Mountain for some winter sports. Hopefully somewhere between Thanksgiving and Valentines day. I would like to do some skiing myself. It have been a while.

whitestar505Whitestar,
I don t believe that you understand the level of our hobby. Camping is really a passion to alot of us here. We live to camp. We love to camp. We love being anywhere, as long as we are camping. We camp in the rain and love it. We camp in the heat and love it. We camp in the freezing cold and love it. We camp where there are bears and love it, and are disappointed that we didn t see any bears. We camp on windy, cold beaches and love it. It doesn t matter where you are or what the weather report is, we still camp because we love it. It is not just something we do to pass the time. It is something we do because it is in our blood and our soul. When we are not camping, we are thinking about camping and planning trips for camping.
For me, one of the greatest things about camping is being together with my family. We get so little time alone, and camping gives us this time. We also get to travel to so many different places and see so many different things, and that alone is so wonderful for the growth of my children. We get to be in beautiful places, hear the tree frogs at night, hear bears at night , the list goes on and on. I also love to camp with friends who have the same level of passion about camping as I do. We always have so much fun together. My DH has more male camping friends than he has friends in the community. Dh is a very busy man with a very demanding job and doesn t have time to cultivate the friendships at home. Camping gives him time to be with friends.
I too have not closed up my camper from Hickory Run. I too go and sit in it and remember the camping trips. I love the smell of the camper. DH asked me yesterday if I was ever going to close the camper, I guess I will sometime. I like looking at the camper too. It makes me happy to see it.
So you see Whitestar, this camping thing is not just another hobby with us. We can not just find another hobby to do in the winter months. We all have more than enough to do to fill our time. It is a passion pure and simple. The passion is always there and can not be removed. So yes, we all are getting somewhat depressed that our beloved camping season is coming to a close, but we deal with it, and look forward to the next camping trip of the new camping season.[8D][8D][8D]
HersheyGirlHersheyGirl,
I am not taking anything away from anyone. Glad you love camping but, we still have to get through winter the best way we can right? So thinking about camping all through winter, and can not go, is not very healthy. It makes all of us depressed. As for the bears, that is not my hang-up but have to live in my house.
I hope you are not DEPRESSED ALREADY! Are you?[;)]
whitestar505Beckie,
Glad to hear you still have your popup opened up. I considered closing it yesterday when I saw that a neighbor posted a for sale sign on their house. Thought maybe my popup (in the driveway) might be frowned upon but since they haven t mentioned it, I thought maybe it will ATTRACT campers to the neighborhood. So for now, the popup stays up. Chris wants me to close up soon though, since we have to head to Philadelphia Thursday coz Jason s eye surgery is back on. He just went though several days of testing in NY and the new surgeons were blown away at the size of the cyst next to his brainstem (trapped & enlarged 4th ventricle). Said it s the size of a large lemon. Amazing he s managing so well. Guess that accounts for why he gets kind of aloof sometimes; think he feels crummy and just wants to distance himself from people. BUT, after the Hickory Run trip, he actually said he kind of enjoyed camping. Guess the group s love of camping is rubbing off on him.

DiWDiW,
Good luck with DS s operation. WIsh him a speedy recovery. Please let us know how it went.
whitestar505Thanks birol. He s getting to be a pro at this. It ll be his 17th surgery. It s the complications that worry us. His eye muscles don t work coz of a complication of a bigger problem in his brain. SInce none of the 6 eye muscles are working properly, it s very unlikely the doc will get the problem fixed (we ve basically been told by several neuro-opthamologists that it will never be the way it was) but we re hoping it makes the constant double vision a bit better (at least while looking straight ahead). We fear it will make it more annoying. Jason s been dealing with this for 2+ years and is sick of it... Just got back from a doctor s visit to check him out for surgery (blood pressure, weight, reg checkup stuff). Seems the doc forgot about Jason s latex allergy and at one point when I was not looking, he slipped on a latex glove. AHHHH. This is the stuff we worry about.

whitestar505Our fall break camping trip is only a week away. We are leaving Wednesday (17th) when school is out and don t plan on coming back until Sunday (21st). I went to the grocery store and got stuff to make the standard favorite, chicken enchilada s, also going to make some Jambalaya.
The forecast looks to be in the low 70 s for the day and high 40 s to low 50 s for the night. Perfect weather! [:D][:D]
whitestar505We did our last camping trip this past weekend. This weekend is winterizing.
We have so many different hobbies we are involved in that we don t get much time to think about the end of one season, because it s the beginning of something else.
Sometime over the winter, we ll start planning trips for next year, in between everything else that s going on! [:)]
kathybrjKathy, Keep in mind that Vermont State Parks now allow you to make reservations 10 months in advance so if you have a favorite park and site, you may not want to wait until the new year!!! Gary

Unfortunately, Blaise is union and has to wait his turn for the vacation book, which starts routing in February. We usually don t get it until mid-March.

HersheyGirl,
So thinking about camping all through winter, and can not go, is not very healthy. It makes all of us depressed.
I didn t know you were a mental health professional.
kathybrjDi and HersheyGirl I just popped down 2 nights ago. The Nevada is all cleaned up and winterized. I was going to take it to the dealer to have my list of faults (with the new roof) worked on, but no time with our non-camping vacation coming up. I will have to take it to the dealer when we get back.
Di I will be thinking of your DS tomorrow. Give him our best (My 3 DS [:D] and I).
kathybrjFall has hit Tahoe also. The Aspens are turning and everything looks beautiful. We are headed down to San Felipe, Baja, Mexico for a few days, then up the coast. We are planning on camping in (believe it or not!) LA, Morro Bay and Santa Cruz. When we get back, Oct 31rst.. we will winterize the PU, put it in the garage, do some hiking and pray for Snow....[:D]
