Title: Do you have one?
Post by: rccs on Oct 21, 2003, 09:14 PM
How many of you have a "mud dabber" screen over you furnace vent on the popup?  I have had one on mine for five years now and never really gave it much thought after installing it until yesterday. It was real warm here yesterday, in the 80's. I happened to walk by the camper and there were about 20 to 30 of those Asian Bettles all around the area of the furnace vent, I suppose they were looking for a place to crawl in for the winter. I now wonder how many of them would have been inside the furnace if I hadn't installed the screen over the opening. Maybe they should start calling that screen an "Asian Bettle" screen in the catalogs now.

After I had to completely remove the furnace from my camper to find our why the burner was burning yellow and tossing soot all over the back tent of the camper, I come to find out that a mud dobber built his home right in the  middle of the burner venturi tube. Right after that, I placed the screens over the intake and exhaust.

Couldn't stand having to do that job ever again.

    Keep your kindling dry,

     Hoppy

Luckily I keep the pop up indoors when not in use.  So far no problems, but I'm always looking for new modifications.

I don't have one, but I want to get one.  I saw one for the first time in September.  Does anyone know how to make one?

The ones you buy from Camping World or Campers Choice are made from stainless steel screen so they will not rust.
