Title: Virtual Rally
Post by: B-flat on Nov 02, 2003, 04:17 PM
This is the official thread for the virtual rally that has already gotten under way.  The popup parade has headed out of south central NC going west toward Cherokee.  Along the way anyone can join in.  The popup is loaded down so far with the Chili Vat and I was able to get up with Buford.  Wii suggested that a hog was needed but I couldn't get it into the popup, so it is in the trailer behind the popup.  I also got a set of lawnmower blades and mounted on a tower on top of the popup so I can get airborn and by pass bridges, tunnels and traffic jams.  The chili vat is bubbling on top of the popup and the cast iron cookware is loaded down for making the cornbread and whatever we want to eat.  Buford is trailing behind me.  I'm on the lookout for more people to join this Virtual Rally.  It's going to be going all across the country.  First, we will head west and then to the south toward NightOwl's place and then down to Fl to Sltrawick's for some Cream Cheese Chicken cooked in her crock pot.  By the time we get there the chili vat will just about be empty.  Has anyone heard from Chubs?;) PUT has a bunch of toys for us, so we must at least head back by their place and campout at the back door of PUT headquarters.:D   Come on and join in.  Let me know where you want to be picked up and what kind of food you are bringing.  We already have a boy scout troop joining us and those fritos and tater chip bags are flying all over the place.  We will have to camp in out of way places.  Tonight it's going to be out in a big field off the highway.  I'll have to add some more wood to keep the chili vat going, so if someone could help with that and oh, yes, wii needs another vat for scalding the hog and to do some fresh corn into corn soup.  So bring along what you have and let's get going.

The boy scouts are starting to complain about riding in the PU when it is closed.  It seem that one of the boys was tasting from the chili vat and has a problem with gas now.  We had to put him on the roof rack and two other boys in the PU to take his place.  While I was doing that the highway patrol pulled over and told me "hey lady you can't"...

What do they mean, You can't do that???!!!    It's because of the Highway Patrol that we always have to take thedarn Boy Scouts with us every where we go anyway.    They seem to think that the Boy Scouts will give us incentive to stay out of trouble.   HAHA, those boys have given us some of our most devious schemes.   But they do have a tendency to eat up all the food, forcing poor Topcat to have to stuff steaks down his bib jeans when we go to the Piggly Wiggly.       I'm beginning to think that we need a totally separate trailer for those Boy Scouts, with bars on the windows, and really good ventilation for when they get into the chili.   Does anyone have any ideas??

Well maybe y'all could swing by Horsecampr's place before you head out west and borrow her horse trailer for the Boy Scouts - bet you could fit quite a few in there. Sometimes those things have vents in the top, too.

That sounds like a good idea.  We stopped by horsecamper's place and hooked the horse trailer to the bumper of the PU.  The PU doesn't have a receiver on the back, so we just took some tow chains and wrapped them around the bumper.  I know the bumper will hold, they put them on real good.  Well we moved the scouts into the horse trailer and a few of them were complaining about what was in the trailer.  I told them that a true scout deals with what they have, so I climbed back into the the Pinto and off we went.  About 2 miles down the road the unexpected happened, the ...

of course no one stopped to think about what the sugar in the candy bars and the protein in the chili was going to do.  (No, I don't mean that, that's disgusting)   Those boys were wound up tighter than tacky lights after a high wind, and had to let off steam (no, i told you, not that) somehow.   They peeled back the top on the horse trailer, making it look like an old Lois Lane bathtub.  (for those of you not familiar with that, it's a 1952 Rambler convertible)   They were hanging out of the back of it, throwing the Fritos for confetti, but they happened to accidentally throw some salsa too, and it landed in the eys of a little old lady from.....

(Naw, I don't post in invisible ink. )"Where's Buford?!" Now the trip just can't go on. We looked and looked and just couldn't find him. We looked in the popup, in the Pinto, and all up and down the road. When , finally he was found in the horse trailer with the boy scouts. He had gotten tired of trailing behind on the road and the boy scouts had him jump into the horse trailer. Coming down out of those mountains of NC and on down into SC was kind of treacherous without a brake controller for the horse trailer and the popup was driving us down pretty fast with the chili vat adding the extra weight. There isn't any sway bar, either, so we had to use extra care. About this time, guess who appeared........

..That she had some wonderful, well seasoned cast iron cookware to use over the fire for making cornbread to go with the chili.  The boy scouts have not had anything to eat in the last couple of days, except those fritos and potatoe chips and some cornbread with the chili would help to make the meal go further.  NightOwl set to work making cornbread and at any moment a truck load of wood is being delivered.

.......it was almost a disaster!!!     A discussion started about the pros and cons of the different types of cornbread.   It became heated, and suddenly there were bags of cornmeal flying thru the air and we all were coated with it.   (no one knows for sure, but we think one of the boy scouts started the food fight)  Anyway, it took a while for the flour to settle and get things, and people identified.   Once we got it under control, CamperJones arrived, and suggested that we have a cornbread cookoff.   Good Idea!!   We all got out our favorite cornbread recipes and got going.   Topcat offered to be the judge, but we knew if he was we would never ever really find out which was the best because he would just eat it all and fall asleep.   We chose GeneF to be the judge, because we know he tries to be fair,  and you'll never guess who won.  It was..........

Buford saved the day by spreading out those big ole Dumbo ears of his and slowing  the whole mess from twirling so fast.   Lil Spanky thought it looked like fun, so she latched onto buford's tail and anchored him down.   Soon everyone was able to get the Boy Scouts untangled from the big pile they were in at the bottom of the horse trailer, and Buford and Spanky ran around and cleaned the chili off of everybody.   Because it was such a harrowing experience, the unanimous decision was to just camp right there for the night.  (lucky for us we just happened to come down in a Walmart parking lot)   It didn't take long at all to get all set up, start a few good bonfires on the tarmac and start calming down to some good old bluegrass tunes, compliments of B-flat and friends.   The next thing we knew.......

I say we book the S.S.Badger (//%22http://www.ssbadger.com/facts.asp%22) for a chartered cruise across the Pacific - there is plenty of room for all of our vehicles and PUs, plus we could have one huge party on the way there! Only problem is getting it from Lake Michigan to the Pacific Ocean. Guess we'll just have to dredge some rivers. We'll need a cruise director, too...who should we nominate?

Tim5055 will have to be the cruisemaster since we will need his help if there is a breakdown.  Anyway, he will be able to pull up his fixit webpages for all of us.  Now this popup parade is breaking camping and heading on down the road.  All the smilies have been removed from our faces and the cornmeal and stuff has been cleaned.  The chili vat is empty after that big sloshing episode with the accidental lawn mower blade propeller being activated.  The hog is still waiting inside the popup, so at our next stop the chili vat will come in handy.  We need more people to radio in and tell us where to meet or join virtual rally.  We are now almost all the way into FL.  But wait, I think I smell something. Yes, it's the great smell of cream cheese chicken and it's almost lunch time.  So off to sltrawick's for some lunch and along the way the tires on the popup began to get nearly worn out.  We stopped and found a bargain in used tires but when we they were being put on, it seems there was a bad rim that had to be replaced and there was not another one to be found anywhere, so we had to improvise a bit by using.......

They got to work and whittled a new wheel out of a log.  With the log wheel with a rubber tire on it the group headed out and into Florida.  Soon after crossing into Florida I smelled a smoker or was it 5 or 6 smokers being used.  With the pig in the back and everyone starting to get hungry we tracked the smokers down.  Wow were we surprised to find Mowalker and her DH firing up their smokers for our pig.  Well we circled the PUs around the smokers and ...

After another dinner of Cream Cheese Chicken, it was decided that we would head a little further to the west and then back up across Kentucky, Tennessee and Ohio and into Michigan before the snow begins.  The boy scouts have gather up enough firewood in case of another cold snap and loaded as much into the horse trailer as they can.  The popup is still hooked behind the horse trailer.  As we head a little further west and north, we can then sweep across the entire country on the way to our cruise.  One thing about it, they are going to have to make room on the cruise ship for all the popups.  About this time we were joined by......

We're gonna have to hurry, the snow is already starting in the U.P., and they are calling for it in the L.P. in a few days.   If everyone gets busy and cuts up some pink insulation board to fit into the ends of their bunks, it'll help us keep warm.  If you're coming to our place for the deer hunt, I'll make sure the fire is going and the cowboy coffee pot is always full.   We'll get the buck pole up and ready, and when we get the first deer we'll have the traditional heart and liver breakfast for everyone (who wants it, that is).   I'll have the potty teepee set up close to camp for those who can't make it all the way to the outhouse in the middle of the night.    But we'll just set the boy scouts camp out by the out house so we don't have to worry about them.

Heading back up through Georgia, we put in a camp at NightOwl's place up in the Mountains and boy did it ever get cold.  Luckily I had a whole load of Mr. Buddy heaters which I had stored in the empty chili vat, enough for everyone to heat their popup.  Only thing is that I was running low on those little 1# bottles when someone said to just hook up to the 20# while not cooking on the stove.  So that is what everyone did and it was warm as toast in every popup that had joined us.  After a big meal of  beans, cornbread,  and milk everyone settled down for the night.  It was one of those black nights....overcast with plenty of clouds.  All was very quiet until there was a sudden sound right out the popup camp where everyone was camped in a circle kind of like during the old horse and buggy days.......

It was Topcat and he had arrived after all the food had been eaten.;)   He was looking into the empty chili vat and the only thing he found was a bunch of empty Mr. Buddy heater boxes.:(   Then, everyone started looking around and found a small piece of leftover cornbread and some milk.  The boyscouts found a bag of fritos and topcat seemed so hungry that he ate it all in one gulp!  Finally, someone said that we would have to go to the nearby store to restock supplies, so someone took their Igloo Ultra Cold and their Coleman super stainless steel type model cooler for Bacon, eggs, ham, sausage, flour, eggs and milk for the big breakfast we would fix the next morning.  With that all finished, we settled back into our bunks for the night and.....(isn't it about time for the PUT folks to join us and deliver the goodies they promised???;)   Looks like the trip is taking us too far to west of Virginia, anyway.)
