If you camp with a computer, you might be interested in what I found.
Our TT has an opening of 16.5"x16.5" for a tv. Yeah, just try to find one that will fit there. A 13" does, but I need binoculars to see it. Now, I just happen to have a Viewsonic 17" monitor, sitting in the shed, which will fit in the slot. But it's not a tv....yet.
Enter 2004 technology & presto, you can have your MONITOR TURNED INTO A TV! (http://www.bixnet.com/tvboxforpcmo.html)
Cable or batwing ready and it comes with a clicker too! LOL
So, if you carry your computer with you and don't want to take along the extra weight of a tv, maybe this baby is the answer! ;)

When I saw this post I was thinking TV..as Tow Vehicle and could not think of what you were talking about!!
Dvinya, have you thought of changing your screen name? Maybe to something like "2manytoyz2" ??? (Older twins cannot help but wonder about things like this.) (That is why good ol' Cholly Brown referred to big sisters as "the crabgrass in the lawn of life.")

Do they make one for a laptop?;) Still trying how to figure that one out! It would be quite an accomplishment without a video input. But maybe they can do something with the USB inputs??
I'm still trying to figure out how to turn my monitor into a Tow Vehicle. :D :J  ;)

Nancy, as soon as you work this out, contact the US Patent and CopyRight office--you'll be RICH, and the PUT members will be your best customers.
PS--any idea how many MPG this TV will get?
It would be great if you could use it on a lap top. :(

Hey, I resemble that!
This isn't new technology. Nothing more than a glorified tuner. I've got one I bought back in the late 80s. It has an analog tuner, and a built in speaker, and was originally intended for use with a 3.5" color LCD. The LCD was purchased for my old camcorder, long before the days of the built in LCD models.
The cool part is the tuner also works with my portable DVD player. My player not only outputs video, but will input video/audio too. This tuner isn't much bigger than a deck of playing cards.
For those wanting to watch TV on their laptops, check this out:

I saw one of these today at Circuit City, didn't know exactly what it was, but I saw it!

try this one!
NUTS!!!
Another toy to add to my wish list! We just got my husband a laptop. With this little gadget, we can use the laptop for DVD's and now TV too! Sure will come in handy for those rainy days!
Gotta finish the kitchen first!
Robert - Do you have one already? What do you think of it and how is it working? Which one do you have?
Maybe I can clean up the mess a bit.
We have a spare tower computer which has a separate 17" monitor and separate speakers. The box I posted will work fine with that configuration.
But, for a laptop it's different. The box I posted won't work as the monitor and speakers are internal to the laptop. The one which might work on the laptop is the one posted by Robert (available at Circuit City) which operates through a USB port for both the video and speakers. But, to use this one your laptop NEEDS to have a USB port.
If you don't have a USB port or external monitor, then neither of the boxes will work for you.
Geez, I didn't know there were such things as laptops. Thought everyone carried around big boxes of computer stuff......like I do. :( ;)
I am considering using this with a small factor desk top Dell Optiplex GX 260 with a LCD flat screen monitor. It is a P4, 2.4GHz with a 20G hard drive and 256 MB RAM. It does have USB 2.0 ports
Camphost,
With the desktop having a separate monitor & speakers plus the USB ports, you could use either one. I would opt for the USB model which would be more versatile. It would allow you to also use it in the future with a notebook or laptop. (Always buy more stuff for the endle$$ money pit. LOL)

If I didn't, how could I bear keeping my handle and website? ;)
My receiver was bought back in 1989, or 1990. It was sold by Citizen, and is model TR30-2A. It runs on 2 AAA cells, and is the size of a pack of playing cards. All analog. Built in speaker and antenna. To use it, connect a cable from the AV out of this receiver, to the AV in on a monitor, or portable DVD player. Tune to the station. Simple to use. Works very well. Even has an external antenna jack. Lots of function for such a small size.
Here's a picture of the front:
http://2manytoyz.com/camp/mods/receiver1.jpgHere's one of the back:
http://2manytoyz.com/camp/mods/receiver2.jpgThe bad news is I just discovered it has a bad capacitor (speaker squeals). Not a big deal for me to fix. I'll take care of it at work tomorrow during lunch time (part of what I do for a living).
Upate: FIXED!I also owned the Hauppauge model shown in the link I provided before. It did work, but the video capture size was too small. Same issue I have with the ATI-TV Wonder card. If you want to use this to record TV programs, you'll be disappointed with how small the picture is. The upside is these cards are inexpensive.
I'm now holding out for an ATI All In Wonder card. Full resolution, does everything. Expensive, but big step up from the other two.
I wouldn't use the card for camping, but rather to install in my home computer. The Citizen receiver covers the bill for making my DVD player into a TV.

OK check this out, you can even have PIP! 2MANYTOYZ
There are so many choices, how am I EVER going to pick one?!? My friends at work are sure that I am completely NUTS. You are going to buy a what? So that you can watch TV on your computer where? :J
They are just jealous! Or they will be when I get one and it works (I hope)!
Man, that would be a tiny PIP on my 7" DVD player!
Nah, I'm downsizing. Remember, I'm the one who had satellite TV: http://2manytoyz.com/dish.html
Maybe someday I'll add a 60" plasma TV to my camper. Put it on hinges and have it fold up flush to the ceiling when traveling... until then, we'll suffer with the little DVD player. :D
