Title: Computer question--help
Post by: julecav on Jan 27, 2004, 06:41 PM
Does anyone know how to set a default player for music and videos.  IE Windows media player for music.  DH is driving me nuts yelling at the computer trying to figure out how to do it!  Thanks

What operating system is he using? (Windows 95/98/2000/ME/XP)

Has he tried looking at the Control Panel? (Start-->Control Panel)

Am I correct in assuming that media player does NOT start when you put a Music CD in the tray and close it? If you are not sure, try putting a music CD in the tray and closing it. Wait a few moments to see if Media Palyer, Real Player, etc opens and starts. If it doesn't try clicking on My Computer, then on the icon for the CD drive. (While the music CD is in the drive) I have Musicmatch Jukebox on my system, so it operates a little differently. It should open a player. If not, Try RIGHT clicking on the CD Drive Icon and choosing PLAY.
Good Luck!

Here's something to try:  start - programs - accessories - entertainment - Windows Media Player.  Then go into the settings for what you want to do.

Right click on a file, choose open with (Or tools, options in windows explorer on other windows systems IIRC), chose browse, and make your favorite program the default to open those files.
