I don't know much about this, but we have the 17yr cicadas arriving mid May. They are talking that they will be bad.
Is this an all over thing, regional, or what? Anyone else going to have them and when?
Will effect your camping?

Yep...we're supposed to get them too... seems like they last about 6 weeks. I remember the last ones 17 years ago....it was the same year we had just moved to this area. Our sons thought the empty bug shells were cool..ugh... LOL I do remember them being really loud, but we weren't doing any summer camping then so I don't know how it's going to effect camping!!! I hope it won't effect it at all...but I seem to remember them clinging to everything! Could be an interesting few weeks!

Zooey
The last time the cicadas were around, I was 32 and not camping, but don't recall them being really bad. The time before I was 15 and I can remember my mother telling us that they are so bad that they attack you as you walk down the street and have to shoo them away from your face. I don't recall any of the 2 times them being that bad. I think we were just lucky. Hope that's the same this time.
They are not attacking actually (I think), they are trying to land on you .....and rest ..... :)

As Birol said, they were in southwestern VA last year for the Eastern rally. They're supposed to be in Western MD, Eastern WVA panhandle and Northern Va this summer. They're ugly, loud, and more annoying than anything. You just can't walk anywhere without 'crunch'.
we got ours do you have yours?
screen rooms anybody! buy them now before the price goes up!
Hmmm, screen room for the tent ! Good idea :):):) Actually we are thinking maybe we will get a newer tent with a rain fly ....

Maybe it's time to upgrade like in the shows;)
I don't remember anything bad about the last "invasion" For whatever reason, most places we camp are really noisey, with bug noise, that is. I don't know that I'll even notice them.
Now that I'm thinking about it, when we camp at Raystown Lake, it is SO unbelievably noisey with bugs chirping at night that we need the white noise of the AC to fall asleep, but by morning you can hear a pin drop. I LOVE waking up and walking out of our camper to see the BEAUTIFUL morning sun glimmering off the smooth lake. I get up early, make the coffee outside and drink it sitting by the lake with the sun hitting me -- ALL wonderful until the kids (and DH) get up and want breakfast! :D
I WANT TO CAMP!!!
