Title: Armor-All and Vinyl Canvas
Post by: Starcraft Dad on Apr 18, 2004, 11:30 AM
This question was asked at the Yahoo Viking campers forum and I thought I would ask here.  Could you use Armor-All on the vinyl tenting.  My answer would be no because the vinyl has to breath (I think) and the Armor-All would clog it.  What do you think, could it be used safely or not.

Armor-All can be used safely on vinyl tenting, but is your tenting vinyl?  Part of my tenting is vinyl (bunkend roof and around the box), but most of it is not vinyl.  I use another vinyl product, Protect All or 303 Aerospace Vinyl Protect, on the vinyl parts of my tenting.

There has been much discussion on Armour-all vs 303 protectorant on the Paddling.net!
The consensus is that since Armour-all contains Alcohol it will eventually dry-out and cause vinyl to crack. 303 protectorant is not alcohol based and (supposedly) offers more UV resistance. I ONLY use 303 on my kayaks and equipment. AND I no longer use Armour-all on my dashboard!
If that's any help!

I agree about not using Armor-All.  That is why I use the Protect-All or the 303 product. :)

I do think you should use some type of vinyl treatment on vinyl.

Thanks for the replies.  I will go with the other choices and will pass this along to the Viking Forum.   I'm looking into them as I type.:)
