This was posted severakl days ago on another BB I sometimes visit. The person who posted it is someone who is NOT some kind of alarmist wacko, but is a very sensible, down-to-earth guy.
Has anyone here seen or heard anything about the following?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
" Several days ago on the way home from work, I noticed a multiple car accident on the oposite side of the road that went on for hundreds of yards. (I passed by shortly after the police arrived, but before the EMTs were on the scene.)
The number of cars involved was amazing, and the weirdest thing, was how many of them were scattered around in a random pattern like they had been "blown there" by a giant wind. Two cars actually had roof lines smashed totallly flat with the hood and trunk,
One car looked like a giant can opener had torn it open on an angle from the left front l to the right rear. And at the beginning of the site was a huge black "blob" of twisted metal clumps with shreds of stuff sticking out everywhere. There weren't even any tires left on it although there were none of the usual signs of fire anywhere
Later, my brother happened to talk to a tow truck driver who worked the accident scene. Three people died right on the spot, and the black metal "thing" was destroyed so completely that they couldn't tell the model, color, or even the make of the vehicle. Shards of plastic and metal were sticking out of it and scattered everywhere.
According to the tow guy who spent quite some time there, crime scene police investigators were already suspecting even that early in the situation that one of the vehicles was loaded with explosive materials or that perhaps a bomb detonated prematurely somehow . (this would fit in with the chewed-up cars scattered so randomly for such a great distance and that black chunk of stuff that used to be a vehicle.)
THERE HAS BEEN NOTHING IN THE PAPER ABOUT THIS SO FAR! The implications of this are very upsetting for those of us living in the greater DC area. I considered carefully for several days about not posting this, but the fact that it has so far been hushed up has made me wonder just what is going on."
===========================================================
Well, coming from this person, I really DO wonder myself what is going on. this is the very kind of thing terrorists are capable of.
Just wondering if anyone here was aware of this wreck. .
I think we may be dealing with a new urban legend. The radio traffic reporters in the DC area work 24 hours a day (traffic reports every 10 minutes).
Had a wreck of this magnatitude occured they would have been all over it, continuing to talk about it for days. Sorry, but I never heard anything and seriously doubt if it happened.
A several of things don't jive:
#1 There is absoutly no mention of where this happened. I would think that they would mention the exact location. This is a common element of urban legends, lack of detail to verify the status
#2
QuoteTwo cars actually had roof lines smashed totallly flat with the hood and trunk
This is not the type of damage you would expect from an explosive event in the area.

Also not the description of an explosive event.
Thanks, Tim. I also kind of wondered about the lack of an exact location (if I had witnessed something like this, I'd have told the specifics of where and when it took place) and even as someone completely inexperienced in this, couldnt understand why a car bomb would cause a car roof to collapse.
I'm gonna go to my urban myths site and look for this one. :W
I would think that the government would have the clout to make he tv-radio stations go silent on this, but what about all the other people who either survived it or witnessed it ? It would be almost impossible to contain the damage without knowing who witnessed it.
I come from a country where I woke up the the gunfire almost every night when I was at university, saw people being shot at, had guns at occasion pointed at me, the last thing I want to see is history repeating itself over here ....

I emailed a friend who works about a mile from the pentegon and lives in VA and travels a lot of the roads and he had not heard about it either. So looks like rumor wins out....
Anyone heard the rumor that at 9/11 Pentagon was not hit by a plane but a guided missile .... actually in my opinion it sort of makes sense, the damage didn't seem to be that big. Implications are not rosey at all of course

Hijacking planes is cheap. Guided missiles are expensive. And if it didn't hit the Pentagon, where did the plane go?

GOod question, there would be one plane not missing right, never thought of that. I knew someone would enlighten me :o

According to this person, this was SUPPOSED to have happened in the general Hyattsville area. I have written asking exactly what highway this happened on and what day/date.
But I dont really expect to get a reply. :J
If there aren't facts involved I tend to think it is a new "legend" in the making. :( I sure hope it isn't true.
here is the latest detail of place and time of the accident along with a remark admitting that yes, there are plenty of bad accidents that dont get coverage in the media.. No further hints of "terrorist activities" by this person.
"...the accident occurred on Thursday night April 15. It took place on Adelphi Rd a few hundred yards north of University Blvd. I'm not certain if the location is considered in University Park,College Park, or Adelphi. It took place just outside the West entrance to the Univ of Maryland and the north lane had just been closed off by thre cops when I was there."
Apparently--thanks be to God--this has not yet achieved "urban legend status" since I have searched all my "myth and legend" sites and there is no mention of this kind of thing YET.
I'm sure that sooner or later some clown with nothing better to do will try to twist this--or a similar event--into some sort of Fearsome Terrorist Threat. :( You have to wonder what sick compulsion motivates these people.

I sure agree with you there. Imagine how much nicer the world would be if all these people did something constructive instead?! :(

I work just a couple miles from the Pentagon and am AT the Pentagon every morning and every evening....I have several friends who work there and one of them was sitting in traffic on the ramp to go into the Pentagon and watched the plane hit... It was definitely a plane that hit it..way too many people sitting right on the interstate watched it happen.
As for the accident...
http://hvfd.com/Squad on Multi-Vehicle Fatal Crash
APRIL 15 - At 1918 hours, Engine 341 (Chillum-Adelphi), A117 (Branchville) and Medic 12 were dispatched to Adelphi Road & University Blvd. for a multi-vehicle car accident. With a report of one person not breathing, Squad 1 was also dispatched. Chief 11B arrived with two persons trapped in two cars, one who later was pronounced dead on the scene. An additional squad, Squad 14, was disptached due to the multiple vehicles involved. The crew of Squad 14 staged and was later released. Squad 1 arrived shortly after Co. 11 units and positioned next to the most significantly damaged vehicles. The crew went to work cribbing, removing the driver-side doors of a mini-van to extricate the driver. Extrication time on scene was less than 5 minutes. Squad 1 returned later to extricate the deceased victim. News reports suggested the accident's cause was drag racing, county police are investigating.
thanks for bringing all of us into the realities of this, vjm. It's good to know that this wreck--as tragic as it is--was probably brought on by something so totally "American" (and totally brainless) as drag-racing and not by the wacked-out minds of terrorists :)

seems to be the "wacked out minds" of some teens in our area...this tragedy has happened so many times in the past couple of years. It's really sad.
