Every year, we do a list of camping pet peeves and a GLPUC member started one and thought I start over here with some of the ones that were mentioned over there. (sorry if it is long)
Be considerate when driving thru CG at nights, if possible use parking lights or at least low beams.
Do not cut thru sites; also keep control of children (teach them to respect other campers area)
Put garbage where garbage belongs
Dump gray water in proper area, not on the ground
Keep you music low, others around you don't always have the same taste
Use a pooper scooper after your pet, and control the barking; keep your pet on a leash; don't leave unattended outside or if they bark while you are gone (the first time we took the dogs camping, we put them inside and started the TV and drove down the road a little bit and walked back to be sure that they weren't barking, if they had started, we would have not gone out together and left them alone).
If you arrive late, keep your noise to a minimum (ie inflating air mattresses, yelling while directing the driver how to maneauver backing in.
Watch you language, some people just don't think before opening mouth. Bad habits are hard to control.
If your crank squeaks, try to WD40 it so it doesn't annoy others especially when you arrive after dark.
Leave your anger at home, make a pack to not let anything bother you and relax; nothing worse then a family fighting while others are trying to relax.
Do cut thru sites; also keep control of children (teach them to respect other campers area)

I think it should be do not cut thru sites....
:o OOPPS, if that's the only error, I'll be surprised.

I would also add to drive slowly through the cg and watch for children playing. QuoteIf your crank squeaks, try to WD40 it so it doesn't annoy others especially when you arrive after dark.

Unfortunately, when we crank up our roof, it makes a loud clicking noise that we can't control. It always makes me a bit self-conscious since everybody in a ten-mile radius must be able to hear it!
My DH just DOESN'T understand when I shut the headlights off when backing in at night. It's not like they help me see anything behind us and it annoys everyone in front of us! I try to think of things that would annoy me and to never do that to others.
My biggest point would be to NOT cut through someone's campsite. My campsight is my home away from home so respect it as such! Since the outdoors is where we "live" while camping, my campsite IS my living room! You wouldn't cut through someone's living room, would you!?
Campfires should be built with a bit of distance from your popup and that of your neighbors, especially when the wind will blow all the smoke into the neighbors popup. (Unless, of course, those are the guys who kept you up all night. :Z )

This reminds me also.... don't move fire rings...they are placed in a spot for a reason. Also, do not build fires outside of the fire ring. I hate to go to site and see several spots where others have created fires outside the ring

This is one I like the most.. My kids always say we like campin' cause dad is more relaxed. AND I like campin' so I am more relaxed.
This past weekend we saw two families have pack up and leave Ocean lakes CG because the son and father got into a fight( this is what was being told by campers next to them??). 4 security guards were at the sites and had both camp-sites pack and leave with-in the next 1-2 hours. I was like.. I have never seen that before.
I was relaxed the rest of the weekend.....did not want to get kicked out, cost to much....

I'm paying to stay here, I'll do as I please!
QuoteDo not cut thru sites; also keep control of children (teach them to respect other campers area)
If you want privacy, go someplace with walls. Campgrounds are public. Look it up.
QuotePut garbage where garbage belongs
Just more garbage. I'll throw it in the fire pit and let the gampground staff clean it up.
QuoteDump gray water in proper area, not on the ground
Now let's not start THAT one again!
QuoteKeep you music low, others around you don't always have the same taste
As low as I want to. Which means as loud as I want to. If you don't like it, get earplugs.
QuoteUse a pooper scooper after your pet, and control the barking; keep your pet on a leash; don't leave unattended outside or if they bark while you are gone (the first time we took the dogs camping, we put them inside and started the TV and drove down the road a little bit and walked back to be sure that they weren't barking, if they had started, we would have not gone out together and left them alone).
That's what I pay campground fees for. Let them clean it up.
QuoteIf you arrive late, keep your noise to a minimum (ie inflating air mattresses, yelling while directing the driver how to maneauver backing in.
If others don't like my noise, that's their problem. I'm here to have a good time.
QuoteWatch you language, some people just don't think before opening mouth. Bad habits are hard to control.
None of that %^*($ cussing, neither.
QuoteIf your crank squeaks, try to WD40 it so it doesn't annoy others especially when you arrive after dark.
After all the other noise, I don't think anybody cares about no squeaky crank.
QuoteLeave your anger at home, make a pack to not let anything bother you and relax; nothing worse then a family fighting while others are trying to relax.
This one really ticks me off. I mean, it's not enough to have to put up with all the stupid drivers on the interstate, then I have to deal with the "feelings police" when I get to the campground

Well, ummmm.... Gotta have my air mattress, can't sleep without it! GUILTY as charged, and will be guilty again I suppose. If I can't inflate the air mattress, I may as well turn around and go home. (Lung power is NOT an option). Lucky for me (and any future neighbors), I rarely arrive anywhere after it get's dark out!
I have a couple to add:
"If you see me strolling through the cg and you have good beer, share."
same thing goes for good food as well ;)
It always amazes me that we need a list of rules to tell people how to act in a community situation. That's exactly what camping in a campground is. You're not out there in wilderness all by your self running around naked, building bonfires and throwing caution to the wind, most of the time you're in a camp ground that is being used by other people that in some cases are as close to you as they would be in an apartment building. So why do some people need a list of rules and regulations to remind them we are beyond cave-people? Just my .02
Quote from: David RoderSo why do some people need a list of rules and regulations to remind them we are beyond cave-people?
Because some people do not think and/or care about how their actions impact others. :screwy:
It is the same reason we have prisons.
JMHO.
I thought we were allowed to educate (ehem) them with any means possible at the moment.
I have to confess that, sleeping in a tent, I also would not sleep without inflating the air beds ...... AFter a long drive I am not sleeping on the ground :(

You've obviously never camped with NNC and SCCampers (insert bare-nakie smilie face, running rampant, building bonfires, and throwing more than just caution to the wind, here)
;) :J

:yikes: What us??? late nite fires, setting up late, hey at least we haven't
paraded around playing the drums on our dutch ovens :-()
hmmmmmmm...not yet anyway :Z
hee hee we are the funniest people I know :J
The late night set up came from a bad experience we had...
We were staying in a private CG and the people in a PU arrived around midnight with 3 young kids (I'd guess under 8yrs old). The parents backed in let the kids out and let them run back and forth between the playground and the site screaming. The parents turned on just about every light they had to see to set up and yelling at each other. Dh went out to see if he could help as it sounded like they had very little clue as to what they were doing and their response was, "Oh we bothering you".... come on folks, it was after midnight, all our lights were out, no radio or noise from our PU and they were in the site right next to ours. Did they think they weren't bothering anyone.
I understand that when traveling you may arrive late, but if you have to arrive late, have respect for the other campers.

Lori--you forgot your "tongue in cheek" icon. People will really think we do that; we're from California after all.:eyecrazy:
Really, we mostly sit around drinking wine, eating baked brie, and discussing whether we are going to join a Pilates class or have gastric bypass surgery to help us get rid of that "extra 15 pounds."
gsm x2
When I heard what you guys do at your rallies it made me want to camp with you all the more. :eyecrazy: Now you are saying it isn't true. :( :yikes:

come on now there are children present :) Don't they have communes for your type??... :book: ...oh,I see....all the cg's in your area are like this. I did not know. :D

How wild this thread has turned :yikes: I am telling the kids not to read it :):):) Just kidding ...
I only started this as a means to get pet peeves out in the open and it sure has gone places that I didn't intend.:eyecrazy:
Don't you love PUT, we always take threads where we want to go ? Or do we want to go there ? naaaa, it was just a temporary sideway trip :)
Quote from: angelsmom10I only started this as a means to get pet peeves out in the open and it sure has gone places that I didn't intend.:eyecrazy:
I agree with those who say, "I pay to rent a site when I use it and it is "mine" for that period of time."
But since many people nowadays have no common sense and lack decent manners, it is UP TO THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE OF THE CAMPGROUND to enforce rules so that people want to return there for future visits. And if they are not posting rules clearly and not going the next step to require campers to abide by them, then you need to make sure they do not shirk their duty with this. They took your money and they owe you pleasant use of your campsite in return!
People know when they come to your home as a guest there are certain unspoken rules of expected behaviour( for instance--they dont pee on the potted plant in your lving room or let their kids jerk Grandma's wig off her head:J) and it should be this way at a campground
Quote from: NightOwlthey dont pee on the potted plant in your living room
We weren't supposed to ? :yikes: :yikes: You mean all these years, all the time we stayed over ! No wonder we never get invited back !!!!! NOW SHE TELLS ME !!!!!! :-()
.....and after a group campout where much, much fun was had, the group will want to be able to come back to that particular campground. ;) :D :eyecrazy: :yikes: :-() Just another reason why some campground courteousness should be followed. :D

BIROL,
you mean that was YOU? :yikes:
:banghead: YOU OWE ME FOR A 5 FOOT HIGH FICUS TREE!! :swear:
Hmmm, I'm beginning to be suspicious now of what happened to Grandma's wig, too --one o the nieghbors described a man leaving our house with BIG BLONDE HAIR! Was that also you?
Quote from: griffsmomThis, coming from a guy in Colorado....aren't folks out your way a bit "granola" as well? :p ;) :J
Oh yeah, hiking, granola, earth muffins...that's us. :D Except recent studies show granola is not good for you so we do prefer Subway now :p
Nancy--all teasing and joking aside (hush, Birol ;) ) you have started a really important thread for this time of year because we can all stand to be reminded of these things as the season opens for camping in many places--especially the safety concerns.
We were visiting last summer in a cg with speed bumps and some kid in his cute little sports car went flying over the bumps like they werent even there and almost hit a toddler on a trike who wobbled onto the roadway. it was scarey for a few seconds! And while I really think the kid in the car was a jerk, I also think the toddler's mama might have kept a closer eye on him.
So this thread does make us all stop and think for a minute of the things we need to be aware of as well as the things we wish fellow campers woudl do (or not do)
Thanks, Nancy. :)
One of the things I hate to find at cg's is a very trashy fire ring.
First of all, aluminum doesn't burn in a common campfire. It just won't. Don't try to. Your campfire is no different.
Second, wet things don't burn for a while. Usually your fire will go out before it burns, and that leaves it for me to clean up. Don't try this either.
Third, don't burn plastic. Besides all the nasty chemicals it releases, it leaves a residue for the next camper (ME) to clean up.
Just be a good citizen and put your garbage in a BAG, and carry it to the garbage can/dumpster. I know it's a drag, but it is a good thing.
I carry a fold up shovel in the truck, pretty much just for cleaning out nasty fire rings! UGHHH! (That coming from an experienced nurse with a strong stomach).:banghead:
