Sorry if this is a re-post but I love my dog and was wondering how many dog lovers we had. I know this is a bad pic of her but she is scared of the camera so I was lucky to get half of her face. Her name is MaryJane she's 1/2 lab, 1/2 chow and 6 years old.
I love our dogs. We have 2 at the present time. A 10 year old Cocker Spaniel and a soon to be 6 year old rescued liver spotted Dalmatian. FYI the Dalmatian one of the nice Dalmatian.
We have a one year old Lab and Brittany spaniel mix named Lil Spanky. We love her too, most of the time, except when she chews the furniture, digs holes in the yard and rubs her nose all over the inside of the windows in my van. :swear:
She camps with us when we go to our own place, but I'm not thinking that I want to subject her (or anyone else) to taking her camping in a campground. :yikes: She wouldn't be happy tied up, couldn't be allowed to run loose, would dig holes in the campsite, chew the legs on the picnic table, and cry if she couldn't play with all the children in the park.:%

Well that definately clears up any questions about your signature :D I figured it was a pet or family member named after a certain t.v. personality from a few decades ago. :p
David, you have the almost-twin of our beloved 4 yr old Shadow. He is also (we and the vet guess) part chow and part black lab and probably a little bit spaniel of some kind, and is the handsomest, smartest and sweetest tempered dog we have ever owned. Has a thick, silky, longish coat--all black and kind of wavy. (One of these days I'll try to get a pic of him to post for you to see._
He was dumped at our farm as a tiny puppy--unable to move from Tick Paralysis--would have died in a few hours if I hadnt found him one rainy night by accident in a ditch where he had dragged himself.
He literally NEVER barks unless a strange car/person comes or an animal (we have deer, coyotes, bear, coons, possums) And was perfectly housebroken from the very beginning. He asks nothing except to be loved and "fed once in awhile" ;) He meets life with joy and a merry grin.
You probably cant tell that I adore him, can you?
Toni, look carefully at David's dog's picture--doesnt Shadow remind you of Mary Jane?
PS :W Naturally, I think Mary Jane is beautiful! :)
Here's my 2 after a hard day campin'
My dogs don't go camping. :tent: I love them dearly, but we tend to do things away from the campground where dogs are not always welcome. They stay home with DH and the neighbor and a cousin stop over when DH is at work. They are never alone more than a few hours. The dogs know when we are packing up to leave and they make me feel guilty about it. They also forgive us when we get home. We get a grand welcome home from them. :-() :-()
Elisa, I did see the resemblance to Shadow when I saw the pic Dave posted. She's beautiful, and too bad she can't get to meet Shadow, as they would surely get along very well. And Lil Spanky would drive them both crazy. (yes, "lil Spanky" weighs almost 80 pounds now) We took her up north with us this past weekend when we went to put out some grass seed and such, and she ran around us in circles for the longest time, and when Rick was walking with the spreader she would follow him back and forth, and back and forth, as tho she could never get tired of doing that. There are some pics of her in our webshots page.
Dave, am I the only one who cracks up laughing every time I see your sig line?? No one but me has ever mentioned it.

Max goes with us most of the time. He's only 19 months old so he's still learning CG etiquette.
Well, for anyone whoo has ever camped with us knows - yes, we have a dog!
Natasha goes with us on all trips. If a campground does not accept pets it's not a campground we will stay in.
Here are our rules for Camping With Your Dog (http://www.title-3.com/DoggieCamping.htm)
We have 2 labs (as you can guess from the signature line). Shasta is a yellow lab, a mere 13 yrs old (well almost). Piper is a black lab, I think he's 4 years old. Both camp with us most of the time & would be willing to sit in the van for hours as we packed if we let them! We usually kennel them when we go on longer trips or trips where we will be away from the camper a lot. We have left them in the camper on nice days, with most of the outside looking windows zipped & the ones they can't see out of open. From what we can tell, they don't make a peep & they enjoy sleeping on our beds!
We too have a dog, but he doesn't come camping with us. I'm not particularly fond of dogs & camping, hate hearing other peoples dogs barking, hate even worse stepping on a land mine left behind by a careless dog owner, and I'm 100% sure not everyone is going to love my dog if it were there! He's a wonderful watch dog, and he has his job to do, espcially when we're not home. I too do have things to do during the day, and don't want to baby sit a dog, and many places you just can't take him along. It's more trouble than it's worth IMHO...
There is always someone there to take care of him when we're camping, so that is not a concern either. If campgrounds would offer a a Pet-free loop, I'd sign up for a site in a heart beat!
We have two.............Sarah, the Rotty almost 11 years old. She is losing her sight and is getting old so she stays home when we camp and takes care of Grandma.
We also have Robbie who is 4 and a much abused rescued Doberman. Definitely an "A " type male. He is not quite trained enough to go but we hope someday this will change. This poor guy spent his first two years in a cage 24/7 in Pittsburgh and then was "rescued" by two college girls who brought him to D.C. and proceeded to give him away to anyone who would take him.....until they brought him back. He still has burn marks on his neck from what appears to be the prongs of a bark collar. He lived in an apartment with them, sleeping on the beds and counter surfing.
We have had him since a year ago Thanksgiving. His last owners brought him over to let us see him and then brought in all his stuff and said if we did not take him he would go to the Washington DC shelter. It is clear they would have put him down. So he has been with us ever since.
We have a 1/2 acre of trees and he just runs like he has never done before. He is a joy to watch. And he probably has not had a chance to run full out before coming to us. We have fattened him up and taught him to trust us. He is still a bit mouthy but we have always had Dobies. And he has been good for Sarah although she has to keep reminding him that she is in charge.
Maybe in a year or so he will be ready to camp.
Our Dalmatian was 4 years old when we got her and she came out of a very abusive home. She has many problems and had been beaten many times. We have had 2 other Dalmatians, so we know what to expect from the breed. This one has a great personality and I trust her around kids, which is very important in this breed. I just don't know how anyone can abuse a dog. :banghead:
Yep...we're dog lovers too..but this is the first dog in a long time that I've taken on all my camping trips. I use to have two Cairn Terriers who were very sweet dogs who loved everyone, however, they also were quite vocal...and I too, do not like listening to dogs barking constantly and they though they had to say Hello to everyone and everything that got within site of our campsite. We have been so lucky with this dog. He loves to camp, he loves people, he loves to hike, he loves..heck, I'm not sure there is anything he doesn't love. He isn't afraid of a thing and nothing ever seems to bother him at all..... LOL He always seems to be smiling and he must have the strongest tail in the world from all the exercise it gets wagging. He doesn't bark-- at anything...not strangers, not anything...DH can occasionally get him to bark if they are playing and he keeps barking at the dog... yeah, he's a watch dog alright...he watches everything that goes on to see if there might be a chance of someone that goes by possibly petting him! We've never been on a camping trip yet that people haven't come over to ask us how in the world we get him to behave so well. And as for "land mines".....he won't go on his cable when he's in the campsite....and his leash for his walks has a little pocket that holds little baggies. We never leave surprises for anyone. We are like Tim....if the dog isn't welcome at the campground, we don't go either.
Our precious ball of fur is a Golden Retriever / Cocker Spaniel mix. He looks like a small fluffy blonde Golden Retriever.
As you can see we love our dogs.
Bandit.... 10lbs (yorkie-poo)
Bailey.... 40lbs (beagle)
Shadow... 55lbs (chow, cockerspaniel)
Ranger.... 110lbs (german shephard mix)
DArth..... 170lbs (rottweiler, great dane, blood hound...just a big ole' baby)
Unfortunately, we usually only take Bandit, used to take Bailey till we couldn't put up with her wining the whole trip to the CG... she gets excited in the TV. If we ever found a CG that excepted more than 2 dogs, we may take the others.
Hopefully at least 1 of the DD's will be around so they can still babysit so we can continue to camp.
Ours is a Chinese Crested Powderpuff. While this isn't a shot of her in camping mode, it is one of my favorites! Dibby does love camping!
We have a Collie and a Chihuahua who camp with us, and a Shepherd/Husky that stays home to keep the cats-who-think-they're-dogs company. There are also fosters of some kind or another running around here - at the moment it's three Pyrenees/Golden Retriever mix puppies who will be heading to homes in California in about a week.
As you can see from our signature line, we have two pooches. Freckles is a 10 year old springer spaniel something whom we got from the pound. She's the sweetest dog alive! She loves us and is happy 24/7. Annie is an almost 1 year old schnauzer/terrier/poodle whom we got from the pound in January. She's come A LONG WAY but she's still our wild child. We finally got a gentle lead collar that has done wonders with her leash manners. She'll take her first every camping trip next weekend. Could be interesting. We're taking her crate for the ride to the cg and for night time. I just hope she doesn't bark at absolutely everything -- she thinks she's a lot bigger than her 20 pounds!!

We have 2 dogs that go camping with us.
We have 2 dogs that camp with us.
We have Kato (9 yr old akita male) and Neka (4 yr old akita femal). Kato was a cute "christmas puppy" who soon outgrew his family and came to us at 9 mo old. Neka was a rescue pup who was mistreated by her original family and came to us at 6 mo. old. Both love to camp, and go with us most of the time. Akitas as a general rule don't bark much which is good when you are camping! But Neka is still very wary around strangers, especially men and will bark when approached. Kato likes to meet people, but is mainly interested in what snacks you've been eating recently!!
