Today while taking DS to the mall for his air cadet tag event, I saw a PU on the side of the road. Stopped and got the phone number from it. The for sale sign was faded out, and the number barely visible. Obviously it was there for quite sometime. I thought they will probably let it go for 500 bucks or a thosand tops !
After dropping DS, I couldn't help myself and drove back to the place not risking to phone in case someone grabs it before me ! It was a 6' small PU, in reasonable shape (It was down) but looked ok !
Rang the door bell, no one, just when I was going, a gentleman came from the big motorhome parked in their driveway ! I asked about it and stuff, and he goes, well it is my brothers and he wants 3,000 dollars for it ! he adds it is 20 years old but it in good shape ! I went, 3K ? It is little bit too much and I mentioned the apache I missed last week ! Told him that I would pay 500 for it when he asked me how much I would pay He goes , yeah but you can't even buy a utility trailer for that kind of money. I had to tell him that at 20 years this is how much I am willing to pay and we said a pleasant bye and went to the mall. 3.000 Dollars !!!! Give me a break ! Used PU's in Ontario cost an arm and a leg !
Good grief! No wonder the sign is faded! :banghead:
Larry
WOW,,, Check back in a few days, maybe they will change their mind....
They must be counting on the value of their memories! :tent:
Did you get the year and make and model? That way you can check out the value at Nadaguides.com and just print that sheet off and take it to the guy to show him the value. He might change his mind in a few days.
I would do what B-flat suggested. :)
I did not do that unfortunatelky, but there was no brand visible when I Checked the outside for damage. I will go back today and see if I can get the brand information. MY eyes are now glued to the Pu's when I am driving I want one before the rally !
Birol... If you want to have one for the rally, maybe you should see if you can find a way to check the newspaper on a regular basis in the city where the rally will be! That way you can take delivery at the rally! It will save you a big trip. Many newspapers are online and if that one isn't maybe you could work something out that you be notified by the classified department each week of new pu listings.
Actually I was thinking more or less in the same lines ! To purchase one while we are down there but didn't think of checking the classifieds ! Thanks for the idea ! The used PU prices here in Ontario is unreachable !

Some used pop-ups down here are also ridiculously priced. When I was looking for pictures for the pop-up I listed, I saw very similar SMALL campers in the early 1990's for $3000. WHO are those people kidding and WHO would pay that kind of money! Sheesh!
Continue to be a smart shopper Birol. You'll love your eventual pop-up so much more knowing you didn't get ripped off!

Birol will you have any problem getting a PU into Canada if you buy one here? I thought you had to get an inspection done and that it was very expensive. :)
Any PU older than 15 years 1988 or older, can be imported without ANY hassle, just bring it in with papers and register it, no need to have it inspected federally etc, no fees ! Staright in :) If younger than 15 years, it costs around 1K to have it all done and a lot of apperwork inspection ... So I am after an old PU in states now :)

Thanks for letting me know. I will keep my eyes open for you in my area. :)
Old PU's around here can usually be had pretty cheap! I bought my first one for $700 USD, and the second one for $200 USD...
Give me a little more to work with Birol, I'm sure we can locate a nice one for ya. Considering what ever the exchange rate is, how much do you want to spend (In U$D of course) maximum, I know you want cheap as possible but where do you cap the price.... I just sold one last year for $300, it had some problems but was still usable...
Just FYI doing a quick search...

Too many to list them here, just go to www.rvtraderonline (//%22http://www.rvtraderonline%22), and do a search, enter price range of $1 to $_????? and you'll get a bunch of em, I didn't bother entering a locality so that I'd get maximum results... There's one listed right here in Norfolk Va for $123, but no picture or defining description was available...
I think I can spare 500 usd to pay for the PU. I am after a 10' box with big beds if at all possible. Would love to have a furnace/fridge :) Don't care about caseette toilet now that we have a Portapotti :) But if it has the shower/cassette toilet combo, yummy, might even pay another hundred or two for such a lovely one.
Since I will have to drive down and get it, 500 is the maximum I will probably be able to go, Ok maybe 50 or 100 more if it is especially a nice one. But travel costs money gas costs money, food costs money (Nope, I don't eat at home I only eat while travelling :eyecrazy: )
Say if I have to drive down to FLA, that would set me back around 150 usd in gas money, 1 night at a cheapo motel (Would I be able to sleep in the back of the minivan ? Would that be safe/recommended ? It is big enough with no back seats to take an air mattress ! so that 500 would fast become 650, plus food and incidentals, around 750 or so. (all in USD). I would love to stick to those mid thousand figures, I know it is not much but I am sure there will be something in that range. After all I have 80+ dollars in the pocket already for it :) so I am itching :)
I think any canvas repair (requiring replacement) is out, as they seem to cost close to a thousand bucks, minor mechanical stuff, I should be able to take care of myself ! Oh yeah, remember please 1988 or older :)
Oh yeah, it neds to have title .....
Quote from: jpreiserWOW,,, Check back in a few days, maybe they will change their mind....
We bought our first PU for $200. It was a tent on wheels basically. We decided to upgrade and set our price at $1500. After looking at what we could get for $1500 vs. what we wanted, we realized we had to be willing to up our price. We found a beatiful small PU in excellent condition in our city, but she wanted $4000 for it. We could buy it new for that! So we just watched her ad for a while. It went from $4000 firm to $4000, OBO. Then $3500 firm to $3500 OBO. When it got there, DH called her, reminded her who he was, and offered her $3000 cash that day. She took it, and even delivered it to our driveway because our electrical plug was a different type than this trailer required.
I'd do the NADA guide comparison that's suggested. If necessary, go by and ask the details on the model, year, etc. When we bought our current camper I did that NADA comparison to make sure we were paying the right amount, and it was exactly in the right range, which told me the seller probably used it to price it. Can't argue with the facts!
I couldn't go and check the model and so on, today hopefully I will be going that way and will not all the info I need.
that man was obviously insane!!! Heck...for $3000 you can find a huge, nicer, newer, used one! Craziness. :eyecrazy:
Chceked it yesterday, no brand information ???? I am stumped .......
This PU is still sitting there waiting for a sucker to pay 3,000 for it ! HA !
